[kmail2] [Bug 353033] mail archive agent crashes on archiving local folders

2015-09-24 Thread m . eik michalke
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353033

i narrowed it down, by manually archiving one subfolder after the other
(archiving all local folders at once crashed kmail completely): as it turns
out, a "phantom mail" in the local outbox seems to be the problem.

when i try to archive the outbox, kmail crashes immediately. i could
successfully archive all other subfolders.

in kmail, the outbox looks empty, but the mouseover context menu lists 1
message with 5,5KB size. i noticed for some time now, that messages in the
outbox are not automatically removed after they were sent, kmail then shows one
unread mail, until i choose the outbox folder -- it is empty, the unread notice
disappears.

how can i fix my outbox?

btw, i also noticed several greyed out messages in one local folder -- how can
these messages be retrieved?

I experience similar issues when syncing large folders for the first time using
KMail 5.0.1 and Akonadi 15.08.1.
KMail just stops loading folders while showing "Syning folder…" without any
visible progress. Looks like some kind of database deadlock. The only way to
revive KMail is to run akonadictl restart.

Should I reopen this issue or file a new report for Akonadi?

  Reporter: wel...@web.de

Since my update to plasma5, my kmail spell checker does not work correctly
anymore.
It marks every word with German Umlaute as wrong and suggests a wrongly encoded
version of the same word.
I'm using hunspell-de and saw that the dicts in /usr/share/hunspell are ISO
encoded (and a content line says "SET ISO8859-1")
So I tried iconv'ing them (and changed the content line from ISO to UTF).
That at least made kmail to correct the Umlaut words with rightly encoded
versions (so actually replace it with the same word again) - which is still
marked as wrong

Reproducible: Always

1. Compose an E-Mail
2. Enable automatic spell checking
3. Write "gleichgroß"
4. Right click -> suggestions

To have an empty filter without any setting makes no sense to me. I
would put an empty list there. But this is just a view.

Worse is that filtering and mail fetcher resources actually have
synchronization problems about four years (!) according to the creation time of
this report.

I can provide logs or any information I'm able to gather from my system for
analyzing. I'm not able to solve this.

This is really getting annoying. What kind of mail client cannot create new

Please confirm someone this bug.
Also make it "critical" or "crash"...

Fiddling around with dictionaries does not seem to work, besides removing
dictionaries means I cannot use these dictionaries elsewhere (browsers,
libreoffice, calligra, notes...)

@daniele: For me your workaround works but only one time. The next time I open
kmail I have to repeat this procedure again.

Filter after removing all filters manually - in this state it works

Once more for KMail + Akonadi 15.08.1.

After removing all four filter auto-generated by the Anti Spam Wizard for
Bogofilter the messages from IMAP are retrieved in a regular manner again,
without any duplicates. Before that I saw a race in the progress bars at the
bottom right-hand side between the mail filter agent and the IMAP agent, which
doen't happen now, but there is a hanging progressbar at 0% for the Mail Filter
Agent.

Opening the filter dialog again results in an entry I've never made: .
In this state the messages are retrieved regularly.

is the default empty filter which is there before you add yours. It
doesn't do anything. Since this is likely some sort of race issue with filters,
it's not going to appear when there are no filters (only the one).

Maybe junk filtering and virus scans should not be exposed as filters but
instead some internal plugins (with configuration options) that hook in as
filters.

[kmail2] [Bug 353146] New: KMail crash when selecting second mail message in thread (First one was read, second was unread)

2015-09-24 Thread a.skembris

Bug ID: 353146
Summary: KMail crash when selecting second mail message in
thread (First one was read, second was unread)
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: a.skemb...@gmail.com

Application: kmail (4.14.9)
KDE Platform Version: 4.14.9
Qt Version: 4.8.6
Operating System: Linux 3.16.7-24-desktop x86_64
Distribution: "openSUSE 13.2 (Harlequin) (x86_64)"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Checking my mail inbox. The crash occurred when I selected the second message
in a thread. Both messages were new, I had just read the first one and the
second one was marked as unread.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
None, apart from the usual duplicate mails of KMail. Wasn't a duplicate in this
case, though.

- Custom settings of the application:

The application retrieves mail from a couple of POP3 accounts, and I have
several rules in place to automatically place messages in the corresponding
folders. The rules did not apply to the messages that caused the crash.

The crash does not seem to be reproducible.

OK, I found it. Many thanks! That was the reason.

But now, honestly.. WHO needs such a setting? Wasn't KDE once founded to keep
or make things simple?

How about removing this setting and allow an infinte (or maybe 64 bit integer
*g*) recipients? Who cares about this limit?!? Who are you gonna protect with
this limit? Viruses?

Can this be discussed somewhere? I don't want kmail getting as complex as emacs
;-)

Cheers

I can also reproduce the same in Kate, so this looks like a general problem
within Sonnet to me.

[Akonadi] [Bug 353140] New: Akonadi needs to handle slow persistent storage.

2015-09-24 Thread Garrett Kajmowicz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353140

Bug ID: 353140
Summary: Akonadi needs to handle slow persistent storage.
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: server
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: gkajm...@tbaytel.net

I have a machine at work with a slow (60ms RTT) NFS connection which hosts my
home directory. Running kmail/Akonadi against this is nearly unusable and
frequently is unable to load emails when I select them.

One proposal I have seen is to change the XDG_DATA_DIRS environment variable or
similar. This has 3 problems:
1) Changing that variable potentially impacts more applications than just
kmail/Akonadi
2) An individual machine may not have any local stable persistent storage.
3) I want my personal data to be persisted as well as to be sharable /
accessible on other machines. That is: I'm using NFS for a reason.

One method I can see for improving this architecturally is to split Akonadi
internally to have separate storage locations/engines for what I'll refer to as
cached data and authoritative data.
From the page here:
https://blogs.kde.org/2011/11/13/akonadi-misconception-1-where-my-data
I'm using "cached data" to refer to data which is persistently stored outside
of Akonadi as the authoritative source. So this would be copies/information
about mail stored on an IMAP server, or that which might stored in a Maildir
locally.
I'm using "authoritative data" to refer to data for which Akonadi is the sole
owner. This includes "metadata added to your data", "Nepomuk tags", or "data
that is not yet syncronized to the server". This is data I do not want to lose.

By separating the storage for the cached vs. authoritative data, I could have
the authoritative data stored on a high-latency NFS server while the cached
data is stored locally on-disk or in memory.

There may be other solutions - this is merely one idea I've come up with.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure user with NFS home directory with high latency, potentially with
occasional random packet loss.
2. Configure kmail/Akonadi to point to existing IMAP server with lots of email.
3. Enjoy the unusability.

Actual Results:
Kmail frequently stalls trying to retrieve my email. Selecting a particular
message frequently stalls indefinitely at "Retrieving Folder Contents Please
wait ..." message.

Similar to:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=289097

Expected Results:
I am able to select email and have it visible within a handful of seconds
consistently.
My data should be persistent.

[Akonadi] [Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages

2015-09-24 Thread Christian Boltz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682

Renè, the workaround from comment #118 still works for me: Add a filter like
"From contains @" and let it execute "/usr/bin/sleep 0.5" (the time you need
may vary, 0.3 wasn't enough for me).

Should I add that at the top so it gets executed before other filters?
Thank you.

I have it as my first filter, executed on each incoming mail (but I'm also
using POP3, not IMAP – just in case this has an effect).

[kmail2] [Bug 319713] allow grouping by title (topic/subject)

2015-09-24 Thread Hussam Al-Tayeb
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=319713

For example, I would like all mail titled "[kmail2] [Bug 319713] allow grouping
by title (topic/subject)" to be in the same thread. Kmail doesn't do that right
now unless the first email is from me (meaning I reported the bug)

That breaks execution of other filters. I want it to still get filtered to
