[kmail2] [Bug 380171] KMail crash on first start

2019-03-15 Thread Rik Mills
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=380171

Reproducible here on debian sid/buster.

Requires a pristine install with NO config files or db created yet

OR

after stopping akonadi and doing

rm -fr ~/.local/share/akonadi* ~/.cache/akonadi* ~/.config/akonadi*
~/.config/specialmailcollectionsrc

then trying.

removing ~/.config/specialmailcollectionsrc (which would not exist in pristine
install) seems crucial.

[kontact] [Bug 403814] Messages moved to trash from trash icon in message window disappear.

Several versions later and this is still a problem. Is anyone listening?
Email disappearing unexpectedly is a major problem. The only workaround for
this if you don't want the message preview pane visible is to close the email
and move it to the trash from the message view window. This creates an extra
step that becomes annoying after just a couple of messages.

Dan, could you have the look at the valgrind traces I produced? The third one

-- Information about the crash:
Open KMail (in Kontact), it crashes. If it does not, it will do so shortly
after. Open a few E-Mails and there you go.

I suspect that the crash might be due to graphics handling in the nouveau
driver. Experienced the same issue
on the nvidia legacy 390 binary driver.

Sometimes just before the crash I can see the message pane flashing in red
color.

This is not the latest KMail but the one packaged with Debian/Buster. I'd like
to file a bug with Debian referencing
this one on kde.org. They might need to backport an existing fix.

The crash can be reproduced every time.
