And if the search functionality would be able to save the search settings or
even make it possible to create virtual search folders (like in kmail) this
would be a fantastic and versatile way to organize dates, events and journal
entries on a granular level. 

As it is now you have to configure the search every time you want to look at
your search list... - for example, if you want to check all the telephone
conference calls with a customer during the whole year, you'd have to manually
set up all the dates, filters and conditions of the search every time you want
to check these... 

I like the search function but it is very situational and offers no possibility
to keep the generated list - you can't

- save it 
- print it 
- export it 

So it is not a useful tool for day to day work but more a tool to search very
specifically for a certain entry...

Tested with:
$ kleopatra --version
kleopatra 3.1.12 (20.12.2)

on fedora 34.  Received downstream report,
"kleopatra: Creates unsafe ~/.gnupg when not already present"

That I think I have confirmed.

If you let gpg2 (and friends) create a fresh ~/.gnupg , ownership/perms as
such:
$ gpg2
gpg: directory '/home/rdieter/.gnupg' created
gpg: keybox '/home/rdieter/.gnupg/pubring.kbx' created
gpg: WARNING: no command supplied.  Trying to guess what you mean ...
gpg: Go ahead and type your message ...

$ ls -ld ~/.gnupg
drwx--. 1 rdieter rdieter 92 Sep  3 12:51 /home/rdieter/.gnupg

But if that dir doesn't exist and I start kleopatra, I end up with:
$ ls -ld ~/.gnupg*
drwxrwxr-x. 1 rdieter rdieter 98 Sep  3 12:28 /home/rdieter/.gnupg

Do you still have this problem?  On my computer using current versions of
Breeze Dark and KOrganizer, today's tile is quite a bit lighter than the others
(see attachment).
