Sorry, I wasn't exact. I mean "After hitting 'Find Messages' button", that is
invoking search dialog (or just press 'S' as default shortcut).

[kmail2] [Bug 381439] New: Reindexing hangs on zero percent

2017-06-20 Thread Andrew Gaydenko
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381439

Bug ID: 381439
Summary: Reindexing hangs on zero percent
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 5.5.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: search
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: a...@gaydenko.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Hi! In fact a version is 5.5.2, but selection list doesn't contain this
version.

After hitting Search button KMail search dialog shows another dialog saying an
IMAP folder I'm searching in isn't indexed. After hitting Reindex progress bar
just hangs on zero percent forever.

Up to date KDE stack is in use (Manjaro distribution).

Addition. If I hit F5 on the folder with such messages, some of messages are
duplicated in the headers list. After restarting KMail duplicates absent (until

guess.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333616

Another thought: as far as all those thousands of messages were imported from
Thunderbird, the issue reason can lay in importing tool. More concrete: source
has a thread of two messages, let's name them as

- messageA
 |_messageB

After import I get

-messageA
 |_messageB1
- messageB2

messageA is correct original messageA. messageB1 has header in list as
messageB, but preview (with header in preview) shows some another message from
the folder. messageB2 is original messageB, but isn't included into the thread.

I have played more with it. So I have got this error - clicking on message

I guess we need to tune issue title, as far as "alien message" problem isn't
related to quick search.

Say, I have selected a folder with plenty (5-7K) of messages. Then I filter
them with quick search by subject, and it results in two (threaded) messages
matching search criteria. I click on the first message in the headers list and
read this messaged in preview. Then I click on the second header in the list,
and in preview I see a messages not related to search at all (but from the same
folder).

The folder I have used for testing contains imported from Thunderbird messages.

I'm sure my English is far to be perfect :) Is this explanation more clear?

Bug ID: 333611
Summary: error on decoding PGP-encoded messages
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.13
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: crypto
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: a...@gaydenko.com

I receive pgp-signed messages which are just pgp-encoded rather pgp-encrypted.
So, it is sufficient just to

gpg -d file.txt

to decode a pgp block. Here file.txt is

-BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-
Version: PGP 6.5.8

owFlkDtIA0EQho+gggcHiogiIoOg2OTcu5hLvEoE7SMIErDw0Qgq2Njb2WhjKYiN
...
mbjcpP8B
=dv5G
-END PGP MESSAGE-

At case you haven't sender public key, you get just a warning, but decoding
still takes place (I have tried it on the another Linux box). So it is use case
when a public key is used for signing only rather for encryption.

For such incoming messages KMail shows green-decorated error:

Message was signed by someone@somewhere (Key ID: 0x-).
The signature is valid and the key is fully trusted. Hide Details
Could not
decrypt the data.
End of signed message

P.S. At the moment I use Thunderbird to receive these messages.

Laurent,

Just for information. If I remember correctly, with old code base attempts to
search with "contains" were "more lucky" when search context was a whole word.
So, if a message contains "abc" word, it will (probably) be found with context
"abc", but not with context "ab".

Thanks for sharing the experience! As far as thunderbird has become "too free"

find two interesting notes about

- disabled code, and

It isn't a fact and it isn't even a tendency. It is your fantasy.

And - what? Everybody has own way and opportunities to supply feedback. And,
again, do you read comments? I have supplied a log an age ago.

> And since you seem to fail to get the point a little reminder: for those

If you haven't an issue and haven't a decision for others' issue why do you
teach affected users to go? Please, stop trolling. I will not keep the
conversation. I'll just report to administration .

Votes say it is critical. For me this bug plus few others are sufficient to be
a reason to migrate to another mail client. Yes, agree, for such migrated users
pity multi-year kmail2's not-ready-for-use state isn't critical any more.
> So those it does not work for should supply the means to reproduce and fix
> the bug instead of just adding useless comments or lists to the bug report.
Please, point your comment place which is useful. In another words, follow you
mantra yourself, please. Or. at least, try to be correct wrt facts. Nothing
personal. Good luck.

--- Comment #12 from Andrew Gaydenko 2012-02-10 10:10:01 ---
Yes, for me filtering started to work also - unfortunately, some kind of
working only. In particular, bogofilter-related filters sometimes work as
expexted, but sometimes partly only (say, moving to a folder assign for spam
doesn't work, while setting as read does).

Now a situation is even worse - when the issue isn't clearly 100% reproducible.

At my case mostly POP3 accounts are in use.

At my case (4.8 under Arch) very often the error message appears on the second
sequential search - the first search completes without errors (but skipping
matched messages - this is another very sad story). Saying "sequential" I mean
the same opened search dialog instance. So, I can close the dialog, open it
again and get next first search results without error.

A little addition. I have dedicated folder - zJunk - as a target folder for
spam handling filter. Sometimes (rather rare, say, 0-3 times a day with hundred
or two received messages) just clicking on (not-spam) not read message header
in some input folder moves the message to this zJunk folder (not marking as
read). The folder isn't presented somewhere in configuration except for spam
handling.

I didn't use filtering with 4.7.1 because of "conflict resolution dialog lock
up" bug which is fixed in 4.7.2. So I have tried to use filtering now - in fact
it is just bogofilter antispam filtering.

Manual filtering does work as expected (Apply All Filters in context menu). But
it doesn't work for incoming messages. I have tried:

- all except for IMAP
- all POP3 accounts only
- Local Folders only

The problem doesn't depend on POP3 destination folder (dedicated one or default
inbox folder).

The first phase - piping through bogofilter - does work for incoming messages
as expected. But the second filter - spam handling itself (checking for
X-Bogosity and moving spam to dedicated folder) - works in manual mode only.
Piping filter hasn't "stop processing here" flag checked, of course.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Spam yourself.

Actual Results:
The spam message isn't moved to spam folder.

Expected Results:
The spam message is moved to spam folder.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't present in 4.7 branch. I have tried to compare
the patch

https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/kdepim/repository/revisions/e3e527084fc730829919c7a827dfe144029c89b9/diff

with C header (kmmainwidget.h) code:

https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/kdepim/repository/entry/kmail/kmmainwidget.h?rev=KDE%2F4.7

@kde-pim team

Please, please, include the fix into 4.7.2!

KDE's bugzilla doesn't transmit votes from duplicates (I mean Bug 281085) and
breaks reality this way :)

[Bug 281760] New: still fetching pop3 accounts when kmail is closed

2011-09-10 Thread Andrew Gaydenko
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=281760

Summary: still fetching pop3 accounts when kmail is closed
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: a...@gaydenko.com

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.1)
OS:Linux

Mail services still fetch pop3 accounts' messages when kmail is closed. It is
*very* unhandy.

I can present plenty of use cases when such behavior is awful. But it is
sufficient the only, I think (everybody can construct owns ones :-)). Say, I
have stayed KDE running for this or that reason (for example, to give strigi a
chance to finish indexing of newly added 2TB HDD), and am traveling to another
place with netbook to receive very important message I'm waiting for. During my
traveling I try to get this important message, but it is already got by
workstation stayed turn on to finish strigi indexing.

P.S. Is there a workaround to temporary resolve the issue? I mean staying with
pop3 and deleting messages from server - just to automatically suspend
akonadi_pop3 activity (or who is responsible for fetching).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Start KDE with KMail, close KMail.

Actual Results:
After KMail closing messages are still fetching from pop3 accounts

Expected Results:
After KMail closing messages fetching from pop3 accounts must be suspended

Do you mean you have not messages doubling as a result of broken filtering any
more with 4.7.1?

I still have the doubling with 4.7.1, and haven't found a workaround at my case
(POP3 accounts only and predefined Local Folders). Has anybody found?

At my case the resolution dialog even frequently hangs forcing me to terminate
kmail at all. I'm not sure it is another bug or this one. Has anybody the same
behavior?

[Bug 247889] KMail takes 99% CPU time when POP server is not accessible

Confirming 4.6 (Under Kibuntu 10.10) is affected by the issue also. I think, it
isn't a surprise as far as in Kubuntu KMail is still old KMail rather KMail2.
Probably KDE developers are busy with polishing KMail2 making old KMail issues
obsolete :-)

I confirm the issue: with a remote POP3 server being down KMail eats almost
100% of one CPU core at checking mail box. It takes 20 seconds. Then I see
notification about failed access to mail server, CPU consumption returns to
almost zero.

KMail: 1.13.5, KDE: 4.5.1 (Kubuntu Maverick testing with enabled backports).
