[kmail2] [Bug 320621] New: Messages moved spontaneously then lost

2013-06-02 Thread Anne Wilson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320621

Bug ID: 320621
Summary: Messages moved spontaneously then lost
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.10.2
  Platform: Mageia RPMs
OS: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: NOR
 Component: message list
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: cannewil...@googlemail.com

Mageia 3, clean install. Mail stored on Googlemail, accessed by IMAP. KMail
started promisingly, but then on the second day I noticed that some of my Sent
mail had been moved to Bin. I tried to retrieve them, but each time I clicked
on a message it simply disappeared.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Potential loss of data is too great for experimentation, so KMail will not be
used again until there is good reason to try it again.

[Bug 294556] Can't add Kontacts to a Group in Kadressbook

--- Comment #2 from Anne Wilson cannewil...@googlemail.com ---
Tested in Mageia 2 beta 3 - KDE 4.8.2.

Good news - contacts added to group some months ago are still visible.
Bad news - attempting to Edit, to add another name, crashed Kontact - tried a
second time, to confirm the problem and it behaved identically. Sadly, then,
this may still be broken.

Is this reproducible with kdepim = 4.8.2 ?

No. In fact I think it was solved earlier, but can't say when. Sorry.

You can't make that assumption. I collect all mail from my own IMAP server,
using one account setting, but I use multiple identities according to the
destination when sending mail.

The problem I had (and the version is the same as yours) was that the migration
appears to have given a corrupt path to the folders. Putting that right makes
everything work again.

[Bug 258351] New: When replying to encrypted mail, the quoting template is not working correctly

2010-11-30 Thread Anne Wilson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258351

Summary: When replying to encrypted mail, the quoting template
is not working correctly
   Product: kontact
   Version: SVN trunk (KDE 4)
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: mail
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: cannewil...@googlemail.com

Version: SVN trunk (KDE 4) (using KDE 4.5.80)
OS:Linux

Replying to plain text mail, quoting is correct.
Replying to encrypted messages, only the on . you wrote line appears.
Even more odd - I checked some archived messages which use old, outdated keys
(still on my keyring) and the quote template works as expected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Locate encrypted message, try Reply, Reply to Author, Reply to All.

Actual Results:
Only the date-line of the template appears - no message is quoted

Expected Results:
Full message quoting with quote-levels indicated

If a new thread comes in and you have set the display to Unread you will be
able to read all the messages until you get to the last one. When you click on
that the whole thread becomes Read and disappears, giving you no time to read.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Set display to Unread and look for a thread with new messages. Read the
thread.

Actual Results:
You don't see the last message, and since it's no longer considered Unread, it
isn't marked as such in your message list.

Expected Results:
The message thread should stay open until the display is next read.

[Bug 258163] Message replies are not sent due to bad sent-mail folder

--- Comment #1 from Anne Wilson cannewilson googlemail com 2010-11-29

I found the cause and the workaround. While poking around configurations I
found a screen that appears to set the default sent-mail and drafts location -
unfortunately I can't find it again, so perhaps a dev can specify where that
is, for the archives.

Each of these showed that the migration had added a long address string - too
long to display and not scrollable, so I can't quote it. Using the icon beside
the address bar to point to the required defaults resulted in
ServerName/Sent-mail and ServerName/Drafts. From this point on, all the
settings from Identities Advanced tabs and the folder option 'keep replies in
this folder' began to work.

It seems that those settings must override the defaults, and if the default
string is badly migrated the application never gets as far as reading them.

Originally I used KMail Configuration to set all identities to use the IMAP
server's sent-mail folder. New messages seem OK, but replies were not going
out. I tried setting the sent-mail folder to KMail Folders/sent-mail and
that didn't work either. Finally, I set the sent folder to be displayed on the
composer page, and found that it was not showing any sent folder at all.
Selecting the IMAP server's folder there caused it to work correctly. It looks
as though I shall have to manually select the folder for each message.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Set a special sent-mail folder using KMail configuration, Proceed as normally

Actual Results:
The reply cannot be sent. If the sent-mail folder is displayed in the composer
window it is empty.

Expected Results:
The specified sent-mail folder should be used.

I have finally beaten this. If you haven't already done so, go through all the
relevant rc files looking for references to the SpecialDates Plugin, and remove
them. I thought I had already done this, but I had missed one. Removing that
now allows me to use Kontact normally and completely.

dialog box said
KMail needs to download all your messages in folder WHATEVER in order to
search them. This may take some time. Continue/Cancel.

The system is frozen while the boxes are being generated. On one occasion I
had not deleted them all when another batch started. That time power-off was
the only way out.

This happens at intervals of a few minutes without any kde-pim applications

I have tried stopping and re-starting akonadi.

The problems continue even after a reboot.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

Not sure whether this is the same bug or not, but system information is:

Application: kontact (4.4.6)
KDE Platform Version: 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1)
Qt Version: 4.7.0
Operating System: Linux 2.6.34.7-0.3-default i686
Distribution: openSUSE 11.3 (i586)

This immediately follows a large update of openSUSE. Interestingly, KMail,
KOrganizer and Akregator all start immediately as stand-alone apps (I haven't
tried any other components. Valgrind report follows.

Not sure whether this is related or not. I have been using Fedora for some
time. I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.3 over Fedora, keeping my /home.
Everything seemed to be fine until I realised that my folder Expires were not
set. I set Inbox to expire at 30 day. Expire took a long time, and left fewer
messages than I expected. On examining Trash (I don't immediately delete) I
found that messages only a few days old had been expired.

Experiment - I set one less-vital folder to expire at 30 days, moving messages
to Trash on my IMAP server. They do not appear to be there. Examining kmailrc
I find that for that folder ExpireAction=Delete and ReadExpireAge=3 (both seems
to be defaults, set on all folders).

It would also be a good idea for it to check for addressbooks on removable

I can confirm that in Fedora 12, KDE 4.4.1, Asia.Jeruselem does jump back to
Asia/Amman and Africa/Freetown jumped to Africa/Conakry. However, I did try
quite a few other locations without seeing the problem. It appears to only
apply to a few individual locations.

I don't know whether this is still the case in F11, but in F12 akonadi starts
as it should. The only problem left with startup, I think, is the very long

[Bug 227636] Kontact starting, running, but doesn't show up

--- Comment #11 from Anne Wilson cannewilson googlemail com 2010-02-26

Since kontact launching began to work again last night, reason unknown, this
seems to have been much less of a problem. Yes, I see peaks of 99% usage, but
it no longer stays there. I'm completely at a loss to explain what's
happening. I did a Fedora update just before things straightened out, but
there were no packages obviously connected with kdepim, akonadi, nepomuk or
mysql. The only possibility I can think of is that some service needed
restarting and I'd overlooked it.

If I see that high CPU behaviour again I'll try to find evidence of the cause,
but for now it seems to be fixed.

Sadly, I discovered this morning that while KMail opens and I can read my mail,
I can't send a message at all. I prepared one which sat in the greyed out
state for upwards of 10 minutes, after which I had to kill KMail. This is a
huge problem for me, and I'd request that it's priority be raised.

--- Comment #9 from Anne Wilson cannewilson googlemail com 2010-02-25

Well, certainly from a user PoV, it's not the same. We talked before of delays
of up to a minute when sending messages. As I said here, in this case it froze
so completely that I couldn't do anything at all with KMail, and I waited for
more than 10 minutes, by which time it seemed beyond recovery. The reason I
asked for priority raising was that using the applications as stand-alone would
be a work-around, but in fact the work-around was failing.

However, I have sent one test email since applying your workaround from
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219687#c65 and that left promptly, so I'm
more hopeful.

It may or may not be connected, but the other applications I tried use sensible
amounts of CPU, but with KMail working, even as stand-alone, I am constantly on
98-99% CPU. Compare that with the netbook beside me that is running 4.4.0-5 -
there Kontact is running and strigi is indexing. CUP activity peaks at around
90% when fetching mail, but varies considerably in-between, falling as low as
3% from time to time. The average seems to be around 50-60%.

My experience is almost identical, so I'll report only on differences. Kontact
was working perfectly with 4.4.0-4. My problems started after updating today
to 4.4.0-7, which included soprano-devel-2.4.0.1-1.fc12.i686, and
kdepim-4.4.0-5.fc12.i686. I don't see the green arrows reported by Thomas
Janssen, but otherwise his report fits my experience. Akonadictl reports that
akonadi is running, and Nepomukserver reports that is is running with Virtuoso
backend.

kmail, kaddressbook, korganizer and akregator all launch correctly as
stand-alone apps, which makes a solution somewhat less urgent. I haven't tried
the remaining apps.

[Bug 225493] New: Akonadi failure makes Kontact unusable

2010-02-04 Thread Anne Wilson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225493

Summary: Akonadi failure makes Kontact unusable
   Product: kontact
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: cannewil...@googlemail.com

Application: kontact (4.4 rc2)
KDE Platform Version: 4.3.98 (KDE 4.3.98 (KDE 4.4 RC3))
Qt Version: 4.6.1
Operating System: Linux 2.6.30.10-105.2.4.fc11.i586 i686
Distribution: Fedora release 11 (Leonidas)

-- Information about the crash:
Running Fedora 11, kdebase-workspace-4.3.98-2.fc1 - Kontact appears to launch
but then the 'starting akonadi' panel appears, followed by the self-test panel
reporting that it isn't registered at D-Bus. At this point Kontact is frozen.
The self test panel can't be closed. The 'starting akonadi' panel is still

I seem to have cured it on my system (Fedora 12 with 4.3.85). Using the
Akonadi Tray system Configure, I removed the local resource - which was
immediately replaced, but this time pointing to
/home/anne/.local/share/local-mail. That does exist (I don't know whether it
did before) and the error messages have stopped.

[Bug 179997] can't sign mails with gpg

--- Comment #23 from Anne Wilson cannewilson googlemail com 2009-10-28

Of course, and that's the reason I suggested creating the gpg-agent config
file. However, since the reason for that file is unrelated to pinentry-qt it
seems strange that it is the only place I can think of where the instruction
exists. Since I've been using such a setup for years, using the same config
files in fact, I can't honestly remember how I originally got it to work. I do
remember times after a new install when I was asked for the passphrase for
every message, which suggests that agent is not necessary, though obviously
desirable.

[Bug 179997] can't sign mails with gpg

2009-10-27 Thread Anne Wilson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179997

--- Comment #20 from Anne Wilson cannewilson googlemail com 2009-10-27
21:50:26 ---
This is not a KDE issue, as far as I can see. I an many others sign and
encrypt mail in KMail. On the other hand, it could possibly be a packaging
issue, so you should file a bug report with your distro.

I find it strange, though, that getting gpg-agent to work actually activated
the pinentry-qt. That should have worked without gpg-agent. The agent's task
is to cache your passphrase for a set length of time so that you don't have to
enter it for every message you sign. The fact that it did work (Comment 15)
does point to a distro bug.

Version:(using KDE 4.2.4)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Mandriva RPMs

In Mandriva 2009.1 I have been experiencing spontaneous restarts of X several
times a day. It seemed to happen mainly, if not always, when reading mail -
though I spend so much time on MLs that that wasn't conclusive. This afternoon
I started kmail, korganizer and akregator as separate applications. They have
been open for several hours now, and I have used each regularly throughout the
time. I have had no X problems.

The crash report creator does not appear - it looks exactly as though I had
used ctrl-alt-backspace.

[Bug 195179] New: Mail folder settings not available across IMAP clients

2009-06-04 Thread Anne Wilson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=195179

Summary: Mail folder settings not available across IMAP clients
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.11.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: cannewil...@googlemail.com

Version: 1.11.3 (using KDE 4.2.3)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Fedora RPMs

I have with KMail concerns folder properties on a local
imap server. I set certain folders to hold replies to messages, so that I see
complete threads. Then I work on a different box, and the property is not set.
Or maybe I get a moderator's message because my default address was used for
sending, instead of the one applicable to the ML.

It seems to me that a user is likely to want the same settings, whichever box
he works on, so it would be logical to hold folder settings on the imap
server's user space, rather than on the client box.

Could this be achieved by the IMAP METADATA extension? Or some other means?
It would be *very* useful.

[Bug 179997] can't sign mails with gpg

2009-05-13 Thread Anne Wilson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=179997

--- Comment #7 from Anne Wilson cannewilson googlemail com 2009-05-13

Now i can read encrypted messages, but still i can't sign. I guess this means
that the pinentry stuff is correctly installed and you will finally admit it
 is
a bug... The message i get now when i try to sign is that the recipient
 doesn't
have encryption preferences. Am i supposed to set those preferences for each
item in my address book? I'll be old when i finish...

Calm down :-) I had exactly the same problem as this for some time. After long
investigation it turned out that something on my keyring was corrupt. It's
simple enough to test for this. Back up your keyring, then remove gpg from
your system, and start afresh so that it creates an empty keyring. Import your
own public key, and replace your private keyring from the backup file. If
signing now works there is a corruption in the old keyring.

As for the message about contacts, I don't know whether it is connected with
the other problem, or whether it is a distro-specific problem. I've never seen
it. Try the new-keyring solution first.

[Bug 179997] can't sign mails with gpg

 Bad passphrase...
And since my key is RSA with RSA subkey, it complains because it says it is
impossible to use it to sign (false).

Please quote exact error messages.

Have you tried the new keyring solution?

Please describe exactly what you have done - removed and reinstalled gpg?
started a new, clean key-ring? re-installed pinentry-qt? Especially, describe
the 'contact editing' that you did. Plus anything else that might have a
bearing on this. The more information you can give, the better your chances of
finding the problem and fixing it.

I deleted the ~/.gnupg directory. Then i imported my public key from keyserver
and then i copied private keys.
Then i opened kaddressbook, opened myself contact and set openpgp/mime in
 cryptographic settings.
Then i tried to sent to myself a signed mail, and the old and familiar bad
passphrase without the asking dialog first appeared.

Have you set up Configure KMail Identities (Highlight identity) Modify
Cryptography tab? You need to set your key for both signing and encrypting if
you are going to use both.

This may well be a Mandriva bug, as I have Fedora's KDE 4.2.2 + qt4.5, and it's
possible to use ReplyTo on a message in the Sent folder

Somewhere around 4.1. this bug disappeared. I have not seen it for some
months. I think this bug should now be marked Resolved.

Thank you Petr. I can confirm that the friend I spoke of uses
Thunderbird/2.0.0.12 with Enigma 0.95.6. Like you, I had no problem with these
messages under earlier versions of kmail.

I have been communicating with this person since mid-2005, almost always using
encryption. The message de-crypted correctly. His key used on that message
has been on my keyring since 2006, and is ultimately trusted.

The key is functioning correctly. It is just not being reported correctly in
the banner. I don't have any other correspondent who uses encryption. Perhaps
you could send me a test one?
