[korganizer] [Bug 386540] New: iCal import fails with unhelpful error message

2017-11-05 Thread Borden Rhodes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=386540

Bug ID: 386540
Summary: iCal import fails with unhelpful error message
   Product: korganizer
   Version: 5.2.3
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: import/export
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: incoming-o...@bordenrhodes.com
  Target Milestone: ---

I know that I'm reporting this bug against an old version of KOrganizer.
Unfortunately, it's the version that Debian testing and unstable are using, so,
until they update it, there will be bug reports against this release.

I can normally download .ics files from the Internet and import them directly
into KOrganizer. However, in doing so this evening, the import failed with the
error message: "An error occurred. Failed to load ical file, check
permissions."

I opened the .ical file in a text editor and it looks compliant. My issue is
with the error message. What does "check permissions" mean? Check permissions
of what? Akonadi? iCal folder? User account? If I knew, I might be able to
troubleshoot this error myself.

Reproducible: always (with this particular iCal file)
Desired behaviour: the error message should tell me what component or system is
not co-operating rather than show a 'PC load letter' message.

[kaddressbook] [Bug 378422] New: KAddressbook (or Akonadi) keep wiping .vcf files!

2017-04-03 Thread Borden Rhodes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378422

Bug ID: 378422
Summary: KAddressbook (or Akonadi) keep wiping .vcf files!
   Product: kaddressbook
   Version: 5.2.3
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: incoming-o...@bordenrhodes.com
CC: to...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

I've been having a recurring problem for months. I keep several address books
within KAddressBook. Some of these are vCard directories and others are vCard
files.

The vCard directory address books are fine. However, I notice when I try to
show the vCard file address books in KAddressBook that they're empty. I fire up
Dolphin and go to the directory where I store the vCard file. Sure enough, the
size is 0 bytes. The file's destroyed!

Lucky for you guys, I keep regular backups of the files and can dig through my
archives to retrieve them. As soon as I restore that file, I can see all of the
contacts happily back in place when I open KAddressBook but, sure enough, the
next time I go to check it the address book's been wiped again.

Troubleshooting suggestions?

[akregator] [Bug 226191] Selecting multiple articles in a feed previews the second-last one selected instead of the last one

2016-09-24 Thread Borden Rhodes via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=226191

Borden Rhodes changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |---
Version|4.10.5 |unspecified
 Status|NEEDSINFO |UNCONFIRMED

The behaviour works normally on 5.2.3 if I click on the first item and
shift+click on the last item. The last item shows in the preview pane.

Keyboard functionality seems not applicable since the ability to scroll through
feed topics using the keyboard seems to have been removed. I guess the
mouse-only interface is a feature not a bug.

The drag select only works from the bottom-up because you have to click on pure
white space otherwise the title you started on gets selected. So, in my
original example, to do a drag-select I'd have to start by selecting the white
space after E and drag up. To that extent, the bug is still present.

Sorry, scratch the previous message. It still is kinda present:

Yes, it works using the keyboard now. But say I start highlighting messages
(clicking-and-dragging with the mouse) from the bottom up, so I drag over E, D,
C, and B to highlight them. The message that shows in preview is still C, not
B.

[Bug 295292] New: Akonadi's Birthdays (& Anniversaries) Resource keeps deleted entries

2012-03-04 Thread Borden Rhodes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=295292

Bug ID: 295292
  Severity: normal
   Version: unspecified
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Akonadi's Birthdays (& Anniversaries) Resource keeps
deleted entries
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: incoming-o...@bordenrhodes.com
  Hardware: Debian testing
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: Akonadi

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.2) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/10.0.2 Iceweasel/10.0.2
Build Identifier: Version 0.99; KDE Development Platform 4.6.5

This bug may have a similar cause to #266451. I have deleted a number of
address book contacts with birthday entries in them. Somehow, the Akonadi
Birthdays & Anniversaries resource continues to track the birthdays in spite of
the fact that the underlying contact is no longer there. I can verify that the
contact is very much gone from KAddressBook and Akonadi's Contact resources by
attempting to compose an e-mail to a deleted contact. KMail does not suggest
any contacts that I have deleted.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable the Birthdays & Anniversaries resource in Akonadi.
2. Create a contact in an Akonadi-tracked address book with a birthdate.
3. Delete the contact from the address book.
Actual Results:
The deleted contact's birthday information remains in KOrganizer and I get a
birthday reminder for that deleted contact.

Expected Results:
The contact's birthday should not appear anywhere in KOrganizer or in the
Akonadi Console.

I'm not sure. I tried reproducing the bug on a fresh install of Debian Wheezy
and couldn't. Perhaps the problem has been fixed? Anyway, close for now and
if it gives me any trouble in the future I'll report.

Thanks :)

--- Comment #4 from Borden Rhodes <2010 bordenrhodes com> 2010-09-11 02:18:40
---
My initial assessment was incorrect. The problem is not with the Tip of the
Day. Through a cumbersome, undocumented process, I eventually figured out that
adding

[TipOfDay]
RunOnStart=false

to my ~/.kde/share/config/kontactrc file could disable TotD but I was still
left with an unresponsive Kontact which required force closing. I noticed when
I started Kontact through bash that it spat out this line:

(4313)/ main: Unknown resource type: "notes"

now leading me to believe that having disabled the KNotes module earlier has
krashed Kontact because it can't find this module and, in a reasonable manner,
now hangs instead of employing some intelligent exception handling.

Since Kontact is *totally* unresponsive and clicking on anything does *nothing*
can someone suggest how to re-enable the KNotes module through rc files? If I
can do this, then I can appropriately report a bug in how Kontact does not
handle module disabling correctly.

[Bug 249683] New: Tip of the Day unresponsive when opening Kontact. Requires killing.

2010-08-31 Thread Borden Rhodes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249683

Summary: Tip of the Day unresponsive when opening Kontact.
Requires killing.
   Product: kontact
   Version: 4.4.5
  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: summary
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: 2...@bordenrhodes.com

Version: 4.4.5 (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS:Linux

Today I closed Kontact with the Summary view open. When I try to reopen
Kontact, the Tip of the Day popup appears but it is completely unresponsive.
Clicking anywhere in Kontact or TotD does nothing. When I go to close the TotD
window, after a few seconds, KDE reports that TotD is not responding (no
kidding) and recommends that I terminate the application Kontact, which gives
me my computer back but keeps me safely out of Kontact. The whole system does
not hang and rebooting does not fix the problem.

This did not happen earlier today (or earlier period) when Kontact went
directly into KMail, KOrganiser or Akregator or any other module, which is why
I'm reporting it against Summary. I am still able to access the individual
components of Kontact (which generate their own TotD) without problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Close Kontact with the Summary view open (presuming that it'll reopen
Kontact at the Summary view). Make sure that TotD is enabled.
2. Open Kontact.
3. Let the insanity begin.

[Bug 156686] New: Would like to configure Kontact's storage folders

Summary: Would like to configure Kontact's storage folders
   Product: kontact

  Platform: Debian testing
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR

Version:(using KDE 4.0.0)
Installed from:Debian testing/unstable Packages
Compiler: gcc 4.2.3
OS:Linux

Currently, the calendar, contact list, and e-mail are stored in various files
in ~/.kde/share/apps/
With no way to change those folders.

What I would like to be able to do is configure:
- e-mail to be stored in maildirs in ~/Mail/ (or any other folder).
- a contact list be stored as, say, ~/contacts/businessAB.
- a calendar to be stored as, say, ~/calendar/festivusHolidays.ical.
and so on.

Other people have made similar requests to change backend storage but none of
them which ask for this kind of customisation. This feature in Kontact would:
- offer the flexibility of programs like Claws Mail which already allow you to
stick your e-mail in an arbitrary folder.
- allow other programs to at least read the files (if the facility does not yet
exist to edit the files without breaking Kontact) without having to dive into
the .kde/share/apps folder.
- although I'm not too familiar with the technology to know for certain, allow
someone to, say, store different address books on different servers allowing
Kontact to plug into the right contact list for whatever environment that
laptop was attached to. This obviously is a theoretical benefit but there may
be an application similar to this in which having a 'pluggable'
address/calendar/e-mail database would be useful or have some sort of security
benefit.
