Currently, there is also the option to select multiple mime parts (be it
‘attachments’ or other) and save them using “save as”, having delete
functionality in the same way, so not just for all attachments, would nicely
complete this feature.

I can confirm this bug for akonadi-1.13.1_pre20160203, which is the stable
version on Gentoo (15.08 is neither in testing or masked, 16.08.1 is available
masked in an overlay, not in the main repository, meaning “still broken within
Gentoo”). Kdepim is at version 4.14.11_pre20160211. I do not know whether a
Frameworks 5 version will be available within 3 months.

This bug may be related (perhaps duplicate of) Bug 323623.

Yes, I'll attach test-pre.vcf for the vcard as it was before manipulation in

   Product: kaddressbook
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net
CC: to...@kde.org

When exporting a contact to vCard4 with a spouse field, the file contains the
line

X-KADDRESSBOOK-X-SpousesName:testy toster

In vCard4, there is the RELATED field for such information (see
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6350#section-6.6.6):

RELATED;TYPE=spouse;VALUE=text:testy toster

(The vcard4-implementation gives you the opportunity to do away with custom
fields entirely; given that addressbooks are commonly synced, such fields do
more harm than good.)

(Kontact 4.14.10)

When modifying an addressbook contact from a carddav resource that contains
fields that are not known to kaddressbook, these fields are silently discarded
or corrupted.

Example:
* IMPP and RELATED fields are discarded.
* fields with group syntax (e.g., item1.ADR or davdroid2.ABLABEL) get
corrupted, i.e., the group (e.g., item1 or davdroid2) and the period get lost
(and also item2.ADR gets thrown away entirely) and sometimes duplication of the
first part of the label name (until a dash) happens. Perhaps kadressbook does
not know the grouping syntax?

kaddressbook should never touch fields it does not know! Just keep them in the
vCard as-is.

KMail's IMAP backend is known for its fragility. Some IMAP servers cause more
problems than others. So one thing could be that some extensions are not
supported very robustly. It could be very helpful for users to try and work
around issues they experience to provide an option to blacklist certain
extensions in the ‘Advanced’ IMAP resource settings.

2016-05-26 Thread Erik Quaeghebeur via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363539

Bug ID: 363539
Summary: kmail sometimes does not store/update on IMAP server
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.14.10
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net

Sometimes, kmail does not store or update messages on the IMAP server. Namely,
often when I compose and submit a message, it is saved to sent-mail folder in
the local akonadi database, but does not actually appear on the server
(verified using other clients such as webmail). In the akonadi database, the
message then has no ‘Remote ID’ (which I guess corresponds with its IMAP UID).
The workaround I use is to move it to another account and back. Also, flag
updates such as marking \SEEN is not propagated to the server. The workaround I
use is to unmark \SEEN and mark \SEEN again.

This does not happen with all accounts, but specifically with accounts on a
Dovecot server. So it may be a server bug (unlikely, as other clients do not
have this problem) or a bug triggered in the interaction with this server's
specific set of capabilities:

IMAP4REV1
LITERAL+
SASL-IR
LOGIN-REFERRALS
ID
ENABLE
IDLE
SORT
SORT=DISPLAY
THREAD=REFERENCES
THREAD=REFS
MULTIAPPEND
UNSELECT
CHILDREN
NAMESPACE
UIDPLUS
LIST-EXTENDED
I18NLEVEL=1
CONDSTORE
QRESYNC
ESEARCH
ESORT
SEARCHRES
WITHIN
CONTEXT=SEARCH
LIST-STATUS
SPECIAL-USE
QUOTA

In any case, whatever the reason, for the case that the message is not actually
submitted to the server, kmail (or the responsible backend) has enough
information to just resubmit, because it needs to fill in the ‘Remote ID’/IMAP
UID. For the flag change, modseqs could be used to check.

You can do this using a filter.

See https://github.com/equaeghe/mailfilters/blob/master/alternative2.py for the
Python script I use. It could/should be improved still; improvement suggestions
welcome. (It says Python 3.4, but should work with 3.4+ as well.) It works well
for me, but use at your own risk. Do take into account that the filtering
subsystem is a bit flaky... sometimes I need to put a filter in first place to
be able to trigger it.

The filter is a match-all-messages pipe-through via
/home/equaeghe/.local/bin/alternative2plain, that I only apply manually, via
the filter context-submenu or an assigned shortcut key.

[kmail2] [Bug 363464] New: resent headers put incorrectly when redirecting

2016-05-24 Thread Erik Quaeghebeur via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363464

Bug ID: 363464
Summary: resent headers put incorrectly when redirecting
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.14.10
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: kdeb...@equaeghe.nospammail.net

From RFC5322 :

Resent fields SHOULD be added to any message that is reintroduced by
a user into the transport system. A separate set of resent fields
SHOULD be added each time this is done. All of the resent fields
corresponding to a particular resending of the message SHOULD be
grouped together. Each new set of resent fields is prepended to the
message; that is, the most recent set of resent fields appears
earlier in the message. No other fields in the message are changed
   when resent fields are added.

So the original message should be taken and the resent headers should be
prepended as a single block, nothing more, nothing less. Currently, KMail
appends the headers and further modifies the original headers, as can be seen,
e.g., in bug 360320 , which
also shows that this bug is still present in the 5-branch.

Given that 286875 was fixed in 2011, this seems unlikely. Moreover, I'm using
4.14.10 and also sometimes encounter this issue. It also happens in other
situations (answers to scheduling events, for example), so it may be more
general than just redirects.

Thanks for your reply.

> tokens that I haven't checked).

Well, that is an URL entry issue. KMail could suggest people to encapsulate
URLs it detects in mails about to be sent out using <...>.

> Also, expecting that users will put punctuation symbols after their URLs to

Indeed this format is common. URLs ending with periods or question marks less
so, and that is where it breaks. Nevertheless a valid point.

> Next, observe that this is not just about usernames that might end in
> punctuation. See [1] to agree that a dot at the end of a domain is, too,
> valid syntax and should be parsed to reflect that.

I would need to be convinced that this is a practical issue. I haven't come
across mails with domains in this format. I have come across plenty of mails
with periods as punctuation at the end of URLs, i.e., that won't resolve if the
period is parsed as part of the URL.

> In the case of usernames
> or other dynamic parts in a URL, KMail *will* break websites (like [2],
> which allows trailing dots in usernames and thus, in their profile page
> URLs).

Indeed; that is problematic. You've convinced me that this is a real issue.
Nevertheless, always parsing periods as part of the URL will also break links.
The KMail devs will have to decide what is most important.

Unsafe characters are incorrectly parsed as part of URL when showing plain text
emails. This sometimes result in spurious ‘dangerous-URL’-warnings .

Consider the following text, a type not uncommon in multipart/alternative
mails:

[Please visit our booth 24-25
http://example.com/][cid:image004.png@01D1B286.A42C3F20][Please visit our booth
24-25
http://example.com/][cid:image004.png@01D1B286.A42C3F20][cid:image012.png@01D19A5C.4369C910]

The following two links are extracted by kmail:

http://example.com/%5D%5Bcid:image004.png@01D1B286.A42C3F20%5D%5BPlease

http://example.com/%5D%5Bcid:image004.png@01D1B286.A42C3F20%5D%5Bcid:image012.png@01D19A5C.4369C910%5D%3Chttp://example.com/

So what happens is that the unsafe characters such as ‘]’, ‘[’, and ‘<’ are
considered part of the URL and then encoded (given the former, the latter makes
sense).
What IMHO should happen is that unsafe characters should be considered as
URL-delimiting, given that they should always be URL-encoded. In fact, this is
usually done by kmail, but in this case, this failed because there was a space
before the initial URL. Namely, consider

[http://www.example.org/] [whatever]

[a http://www.example.org/][whatever]
[a http://www.example.org/] [whatever]
[a http://www.example.org/]

In the first set of three, parsing is always correct. In the latter set of
three, it is incorrect for the first line, i.e., a link

http://www.example.org/%5D%5Bwhatever%5D

is generated.

So I think the parsing code should be modified to deal with such cases.

Reproducible: Always

[kmail2] [Bug 358049] URLs that end in . or ? aren't parsed correctly

Clearly, the parsing code needs to take into account both what valid URLs are
*and* what people type in mails. When a URL comes at the end of a sentence,
people write punctuation after it, such as a period and a question mark. So if
nothing comes after that, i.e., there is white space or a line break, the most
likely situation is that those symbols are punctuation and not part of the URL,
although they could be. So the question is, do those user names in URLs you
mention end with a period?

I tested the following (in 4.14.10):

http://example.com/whatever.
http://example.com/whatever. you
http://example.com/whatever.you

http://example.com/whatever?
http://example.com/whatever? q
http://example.com/whatever?q

In both cases, the first two links in KMail end before the punctuation and the
last one includes the punctuation and what follows. (So, FWIW, I would say this
issue can be CONFIRMED.) This seems a reasonable choice to me. I guess there
need to be a sufficient number of URLs in the wild ending with punctuation
symbols for it to counteract the argument that these symbols are usually not
part of URLs in email messages.

I suggest closing as WONTFIX based on that argument.

Perhaps reopen, or is this a different issue:

I get "Unable to fetch item from backend (collection -1) Unable to retrieve
item from resource: Ongeldige item opgehaald", where the last part is a bad
Dutch translation of ‘retrieved invalid item’.

Akonadi 1.13.0

In akonadiconsole the problematic mail in question is grayed out and cannot be
interacted with. I'd deleted that mail, but appartently something went wrong.
This is an IMAP resource; the mail is not present on the IMAP server.
