[akregator] [Bug 488799] New: Fails to add valid RSS feed through GUI and crashes using CLI with --addfeed option

2024-06-20 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488799

Bug ID: 488799
Summary: Fails to add valid RSS feed through GUI and crashes
using CLI with --addfeed option
Classification: Applications
   Product: akregator
   Version: 5.24.5
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: feed parser
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: b...@wormhole.me.uk
  Target Milestone: ---

Unable to add https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/. The W3C Feed Validation Service
says "This is a valid RSS feed", with zero warnings:
http://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=https%3A//greenparty.org.uk/feed/

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click Feed / Add Feed
2. In Feed URL box enter https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/ and click OK
3. Popup error box says "Feed not found from https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/.";

I tried with the --addfeed option. I first renamed ~/.local/share/akregator to
~/.local/share/akregator.bak. This was the result:

$ akregator --addfeed https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/
"https://dot.kde.org/rss.xml";
"https://www.linux.com/feed/";
"https://planet.kde.org/global/atom.xml";
"https://store.kde.org/content.rdf";
"https://planet.kde-espana.org/atom.xml";
"http://planet.ubuntu.com/rss20.xml";
"http://feeds.feedburner.com/ubuntu-fridge";
"http://www.kubuntu.org/news/feed";
"unexpected character" on line 1
KCrash: crashing... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: Application Name = akregator path = /usr/bin pid = 678451
KCrash: Arguments: /usr/bin/akregator --addfeed https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/drkonqi

[1]+ Stopped akregator --addfeed
https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/

===

Perhaps the problem is that line 1 of the feed has both the xml version and the
rss version. The feed starts:

http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/";
xmlns:wfw="http://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/";
xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/";
xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom";
xmlns:sy="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/syndication/";
xmlns:slash="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/slash/";
>

Real hope. Real change.

Click Message / Mailing List Name: {name of mailing list} / Post New Message
(email).

Note that in the composer, the Identity (and From) fields are the defaults, not
the identity set in the folder properties.

The same happens with any other submenu of Mailing List Name (such as Request
Help (email) ).

Message / New Message to Mailing-List... works OK.

Using Kubuntu 22.10, KMail 5.21.1 (22.08.1).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Del

OBSERVED RESULT
Thread (perhaps with just a single message) is deleted permanently and not
moved to the wastebin.

EXPECTED RESULT
If Shift+Del is pressed, a popup dialog box appears:

"Do you really want to delete the selected message?
Once deleted, it cannot be restored."

I would expect there to be a similar warning for Ctrl+Shift+Del.

[akregator] [Bug 193969] Open tabs so unnecessary for files

2021-03-10 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=193969

The behaviour is much the same in Akregator 5.13.3 with the default settings.

The default Browser setting is Left mouse click = Open in Tab. Perhaps this
indicates it's working as designed, but as the OP said this isn't the way it
used to work.

I see from my comment in 2012 that the popup had the option to open the
enclosure with an application (such as Amarok). Now there's no such option, and
all the popup offers to do is download the enclosure. The popup has the title
"Save HTML Page -- Akregator".

[Akonadi] [Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages

2019-04-23 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682

I haven't seen the problem for a while, maybe two years. I use POP3 only, not
IMAP. I run Kubuntu; currently I'm on 19.04.

Sometimes kmail crashes, and I wonder if the way I clean up is related to my
not seeing duplicate filtered messages. When kmail crashes, I stop akonadi
("akonadictl stop") and look in the maildir structure like this:

cd .local/share/.local-mail.directory
ls */new/*S

The S indicates messages which have been Seen, and according to the Maildir
specification the files should not be in a"new" subdirectory; they should have
been moved to a "cur" subdirectory. I therefore move them while akonadi is
stopped. E.g.,

mv -i wastebin/new/*S wastebin/cur

I then run "akonadictl fsck" and restart akonadi ("akonadictl start").

As I say, it's pure speculation that this is why I don't see duplicate messages
now.

I have this problem in 5.1.3, with messages from the mailing list going into
their own folder.

I found that in the Folder Properties dialogue, Mailing List tab, the Post to
List address had been set automatically. When I removed this address, replies
to private mail went to the correct address.

I'm still seeing something like this in 5.1.3.

Sometimes I'll see a message in my inbox that should have been filtered to
another folder. The unread count for the target folder is 0. If I open the
target folder, the unread count is set to 1, and the same message as in my
inbox is present. I then go back to my inbox and manually filter the message
(Ctrl+J). Now there are two copies of the message in the target folder.

[kmail2] [Bug 319823] Problems with Mailing List preferred handler = browser

2016-09-25 Thread Graeme Hewson via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=319823

I confirm the problems are still present in Kubuntu 16.04, which uses kmail2
version 5.1.3 (and I'm using kmail2 within kontact version 5.1.3).

I see that a handler _is_ invoked if the URI scheme is mailto. Further, the
kmail handler is invoked only if the email address is at the top of the list of
URIs; if a URL is at the top, nothing happens when Invoke Handler is clicked.
Further still, the "Preferred handler" setting is ignored; if it's set to
Browser, and an email address is at the top of the list of URIs, nevertheless
clicking Invoke Handler brings up a kmail2 composer window.

I would expect that if the preferred handler is set to Browser, then clicking
Invoke Handler opens the browser wherever the URL is in the list (assuming
there is a URL in the list, of course). And similarly for preferred handler =
KMail.

[kmail] [Bug 95064] Duplicates messages in imap folder after filtering

2015-12-22 Thread Graeme Hewson via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95064

See comment 87. This bug report was filed against Kmail version 1, which is
unmaintained, so it's been closed. "UNRESOLVED UNMAINTAINED" would be more
accurate. :-(

I suggest you find a more recent report for the problem (there are several),
e.g., bug 283682. Note this was filed against Akonadi, which is the component
which does the filtering.

  Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED

(Akregator version 5.0.2, but this isn't currently selectable in the bug
tracker)

The default shortcut for Next Unread Article is "+,=". Obviously this is meant
to mean "+" or "=", but what it actually means is the user has to press "+" and
then "=" to advance to the next unread article.

Workaround is to define a custom shortcut.

[Akonadi] [Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages

2015-09-29 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682

It's best to put error messages in text form for easy reference.

The title of the popup message is "Fehler beim Löschen von doppelten
Nachrichten – Kontact", which Google translates as "Failed to delete duplicate
messages".

The content of the message is "Unable to fetch item from backend (collection
186) : Unable to retrieve item from resource: Ungļltigen Eintrag erhalten".

[kmail2] [Bug 333778] New: Disabling "Enable detection of missing attachments" setting ignored

2014-04-23 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333778

Bug ID: 333778
Summary: Disabling "Enable detection of missing attachments"
setting ignored
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.13
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: composer
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: b...@wormhole.me.uk

If the word "attached" is entered into a message being composed, a message pops
up at the bottom of the window saying "The message you have composed seems to
refer to an attached file but you have not attached anything. Do you want to
attach a file to your message?"

This happens regardless of whether or not in Settings / Configure Kmail /
Composer / Attachments tab, "Enable detection of missing attachments" is
ticked.

(I've never seen the message before 4.13. Yet there's a blog post from 2004
where someone comments on it. Strange.)

Yes, same here. I had the Baloo libraries installed, but not the baloo package
itself. After installing it, quick search works fine (even better than before,
with the extra buttons that appear for filtering).

The Find Messages dialog doesn't work, but that's the subject of another bug.
Maybe it'll be OK in Trusty. I've confirmed that the baloo package is present
in Trusty beta, anyway.

I removed my nVidia card and the driver, and Akonadi starts OK now.

I didn't experience the problems in the other reports in comment 52 of ^C not
working in xterm (or Konsole, either).

I have a suspicion that I was mistaken in comment 32 when I said that Akonadi
only started 4 out of 5 times after renaming
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.Akonadi.Control.service. Testing
now, I found I wasn't always allowing enough time, so "akonadictl status" might
say "stopped", but a moment later it would say "running".

Is there documentation of this full debug dialog for searching in 4.12?

[Akonadi] [Bug 326480] Akonadi fails to start

2013-11-10 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=326480

I directed libakonadi debug output to disk while I logged in to KDE (file
attached).

The messages make reference to
/tmp/akonadi-ghewson.ws0sFY/akonadiserver.socket, but there is no such file.
This is after a reboot (on Kubuntu, where /tmp is cleared between reboots).
However, the file /did/ exist in the previous session, and in the current
session ~/.local/share/akonadi/socket-$(hostname) is a link to
/tmp/akonadi-ghewson.ws0sFY/akonadiserver.socket.

The messages also say "Akonadi server is already starting up", but before
logging in to KDE I started a terminal session and verified that Akonadi wasn't
running. (It's very hard to see how it could have been!)

To reiterate: sometimes Akonadi does start properly. In fact, while I was
debugging, it usually did (presumably due to a change in the timing), and I had
to try several times before it failed to start properly.

I've noticed that akonadi usually starts OK when I log in after being logged in

hard (catching up on the work it didn't do in the previous login session?).

Incidentally, in comment 2 I neglected to show a clean shutdown of mysql. The
full sequence of commands is:

pkill akonadi_control
pkill akonadiserver
mysqladmin shutdown --socket
~/.local/share/akonadi/socket-$(hostname)/mysql.socket
akonadictl start

I didn't try this because the apparmor messages haven't reappeared after
several reboots. I guess they only appeared because I was struggling to get
kmail working after the Kubuntu upgrade.

Still akonadi sometimes starts properly after rebooting and logging in, but
mostly it doesn't.

2013-10-28 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=326480

I have this problem after upgrading Kubuntu 13.04 to 13.10, but not always.
Sometimes after rebooting and logging in, Akonadi starts properly, but most
often, although akonadi_control and akonadiserver are running, I see the
messages in tests 10 and 11:

Akonadi control process not registered at D-Bus.
Akonadi server process not registered at D-Bus.

(Unlike the above log, though, test 12 for me says "Nepomuk search service
registered at D-Bus.")

The solution for me is:

pkill akonadi_control
pkill akonadiserver
akonadictl start

I guess it's a timing problem.

[Akonadi] [Bug 255388] Kmail filters dont work in incoming mail

2013-09-20 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255388

I've hit another problem, which seems to be a timing problem, maybe tickled by
the fact that I've now turned on filter logging.

After reading a message in the mailing list I went back to my inbox and saw
what turned out to be the same message (I saved the two copies and compared
them to make sure). From both the inbox and the other folder, I was able to
save the message, but there was only one copy on disk, which I found using
grep. This was in ~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory/inbox/new/ (before I
opened it).

I've uploaded the relevant part of the filter log
(https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=82421). The entries at 08:07 and 08:37
are just for context, to show that I've included all entries at 08:27. The log
entry for the first message at 08:27:12 says "Move Into Folder
"akonadi-local/london.pm", and indeed that message was visible in that folder
through kmail, but as I say, grep showed it was really in inbox. The timestamp
of the file (using ls --full-time) is 08:27:12.79. Now see the filter log entry
at 08:27:13. This refers to the same message that was filtered one second
earlier (I know it's the same because there was only one message sent by that
person at 09:07 their local time).

After manually applying filtering to the message, the two (visible) copies were
both in akonadi-local/london.pm. Again, there was only one version actually on
disk.

About an hour later, the same thing happened (same mailing list; different
author).

Following on from my comment 93, now a message has been left in my inbox after
an automatic mail check. Again, the message was moved to the correct folder
after applying filtering manually.

So this is more than a one-off, but an intermittent bug, and can occur with
automatic or manual mail checks. I'm on 4.11.1, using the Kubuntu PPA.

2013-09-18 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255388

Filtering has been much better for me in the last few releases, but I've hit a
one-off problem.

I filter messages from a particular mailing list to its own folder. A little
while ago I did a manual Check Mail (Ctrl+L), and two new messages from the
list were left in my Inbox. These were correctly filtered with a manual Apply
Filter (Ctrl+J).

A few minutes later I again did a manual Check Mail, and two new messages from
the list were correctly filtered and moved out of my Inbox.

This is a POP3 account, and the filter looks at List-Id. The filter is applied
just to the particular POP3 account (since bug 308008 was fixed).

I guess it would be tricky to reproduce this, as the timing would have to be
just right (or wrong).

I'm unable to reproduce this. I set up a filter with "Subject contains foobar"
and action "Move Into Folder akonadi-local/"; then in Advanced "from
checked accounts only" and uncheck all but the one POP3 server. I also tried
moving the test filter down the list, from first to second place.

I tried with two POP3 accounts, each with a different destination folder.
Apart, obviously, from the account settings, there were other differences: one
uses pipelining and the other doesn't; one uses encryption and the other
doesn't. Everything worked for me.

  Reporter: b...@wormhole.me.uk

Two problems with Browser handler; maybe needs two bug reports?

1. Invoke Handler has no effect.

Go to Folder Properties, Mailing List tab. Preferred handler was previously set
to Browser.

Set address type to something with an http URL. Click Invoke Handler. Nothing
happens.

2. Preferred handler changed without clicking OK.

With the preferred handler previously set to KMail, go to the Mailing List tab.

Change the preferred handler to Browser and try to invoke Browser handler, as
above. As before, nothing hapens.

Click Cancel.

Go back to the Mailing List tab and observe that the preferred handler is
Browser and not KMail, even though the Cancel button was clicked, not the OK
button.

To be honest, I'm not sure it's useful to invoke the handler from the Folder
Properties dialog: it makes more sense to use the Message / Mailing-List
submenu. If the Invoke Handler button were to be removed, then I don't think it
wouldn't make sense either to have a preferred handler.

After sending a message, sometimes the Unread and Total counts for the outbox
folder in the folder list are 1. This is despite there being a notification
that the message was sent, and the fact that the message is visible in the
sent-mail folder.

When clicking on outbox in the folder list, the count immediately clears, and
nothing is displayed in the message panes.

Reproducible: sometimes.

I don't believe this happened before 4.10.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=308008

Still happening in 4.10.2.

Filter log has only one line for a message:

[time] Begin filtering on message "" from "" at ""

No rules are evaluated when automatically filtering with "from checked accounts
only" checked, and one POP3 account checked.

I confirm this. Kubuntu 12.10 + KDE 4.10.2. Using POP3, not IMAP.

Maybe related to bug 288073.

Should "Body of Message" "contains" be working? Nothing happens when I press
the Search button, nor has anything ever happened since I first installed KDE4.

I deleted $KDEHOME/share/apps/nepomuk and let nepomuk recreate it as mentioned
in http://userbase.kde.org/Nepomuk. Still search doesn't work for me.

In fact, now the default "Subject" "contains" search doesn't work, though it
used to: again, nothing happens when I press the Search button.

Filter log shows duplicate message twice, so it seems the duplication happens
before filtering. The timestamp on the filter log was the same for each
message, so it seems the message isn't being fetched twice from the POP3
server. Using 4.10.1.

It's also a fault that the error message is misleading. Kmail says:

> Failed to transport message. Your SMTP server does not support PLAIN.
Choose a different authentication method.

Fortunately, in this case my SMTP server is more informative. The message
continues:

> "The server responded: "5.7.0 Incorrect username or password."

This bug goes back to kmail1 (see bug 120661, reported over seven years ago).

[kmail2] [Bug 314126] New: Wrong shortcut shown in menu for New Message to Mailing List

2013-01-30 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=314126

Bug ID: 314126
Summary: Wrong shortcut shown in menu for New Message to
Mailing List
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.9.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: UI
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: b...@wormhole.me.uk

Menu entry Message / New Message to Mailing-List shows the shortcut as
Ctrl+Shift+N, but clicking on the menu entry or entering the shortcut has no
effect. If kmail was started from a terminal, this message is displayed:

KMail::Util::mailingListsHandleURL: Can't handle url

The shortcut L works for me.

Also, in correct English the text should say "Mailing List", without a hyphen.

OK, focus policy is relevant. With Click to Focus and Focus Follows Mouse,
dialog pops under, as described. With Focus Under Mouse and Focus Strictly
Under Mouse, dialog pops up over other windows.

I would still expect the dialog to pop up with all focus policies.

If login fails for an account with interval mail checking enabled, a popup
message appears:

"Please enter the username and password for account ''. You are asked
here because the previous login was not successful."

However, it's actually a pop-under message, which is easy to overlook. This
also happens with a manual check.

Reproducible: always
Expected result: message pops up on top of other windows.

My focus policy is Focus Follows Mouse, if that's relevant.

I still see duplicate messages sometimes in 4.9.4. This is with a POP3 account,
using a filter to move messages to a separate folder.

Unfortunately, this only happens with a particular mailing list which has very
light traffic currently, so I'm not able to investigate. I thought I'd try to
duplicate the problem with a maildir account as detailed in comment 1, but I've
found that automatic filtering doesn't work for me with maildir or mbox
accounts (bug 255388 comment 71).

Automatic filtering doesn't work on local mbox or maildir accounts.

I set up a filter to move incoming messages to a different folder. When I use
mailx to send myself a test message, the message appears in the incoming folder
and isn't moved, and nothing shows in the filter log. The filter works fine
when applied manually.

Reproducible always. Kmail 4.9.4.
