[Bug 175007] Korganizer crashes at startup

--- Comment #2 from Ian Turner 2008-11-21 19:11:25 ---
The crash happened at korganizer startup, so I guess the answer to "what were
you doing" is "running korganizer". I'm unable to reproduce this issue these
days, though I did find a testcase for a possibly related issue, bug 174894.

Unfortunately, I don't have much else to say. :-( If it's too little to
address, just close it as WONTFIX or whatnot.

[Bug 202143] New: Reorganize kmail dictionary suggestion menu

2009-07-31 Thread Ian Turner
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202143

Summary: Reorganize kmail dictionary suggestion menu
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: vec...@vectro.org

Version:(using KDE 4.2.98)
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

Currently, right-clicking a misspelled word in kmail brings up a menu with just
three options, the last of which opens a submenu. For example, typing in the
word "teh" and right-clicking yields a menu as follows:

┌─┐
│Ignore │
│Add to Dictionary│┌┐
│Suggestions for teh ►││the │
└─┘│eh │
...
   │t eh│
   └┘

There are two problems with this approach:
1. The easiest to click options are "Ignore" and "Add to Dictionary", which are
also the only undoable options. Although in a spellcheck dialog these might be
the most common options, in this use case users are unlikely to right-click a
word which is already correctly spelled.
2. Actually correcting the word requires two clicks, which is unnecessary as
the first menu is not excessively long.

Therefore, I propose to rewrite the menu with the recommendations first and the
"Ignore" and "add" options after, as follows:
┌─┐
│the │
│eh │
 ...
│t eh │
├─┤
│Ignore │
│Add to Dictionary│
└─┘

Any thoughts on this approach?

[Bug 216843] New: [feature] Accept events without sending response

2009-11-30 Thread Ian Turner
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216843

Summary: [feature] Accept events without sending response
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: vec...@vectro.org

Version:(using KDE 4.3.2)
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

Outlook has a feature to accept invitations without sending a response. This is
especially useful when a colleague has forwarded an invitation and you want to
add the event to your calendar without notifying the original organizer (who
may not know who you are anyhow).

At the moment the only way to accomplish this is with a cumbersome workaround:
Set Kmail to offline mode, accept the invitation, find the response in the
outbox and delete it, then return to online mode.

Outlook accomplishes this feature with a proactive dialog, offering the options
"Send the response without editing", "Edit the response before sending", or
"Don't send a response." This is an acceptable paradigm, though in the kmail
interface a radio button below the options might be more idiomatic.

[Bug 216844] New: kmail sends a response to RFC2445 invitations even when not requested.

2009-11-30 Thread Ian Turner
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216844

Summary: kmail sends a response to RFC2445 invitations even
when not requested.
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: vec...@vectro.org

Version:(using KDE 4.3.2)
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

This bug is in regards to a violation of RFC2445 § 4.2.17 by the KDEPIM suite.
I think the bug should go to kmail, but I apologize if I have misfiled.

The RFC is here: http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2445.html

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Start Microsoft Outlook 2007. Create a "Meeting Request" and add a kmail
user.
2. Browse to Meeting ... Attendees ... Responses ... and uncheck "Request
Responses"
3. Send the meeting request.
4. In Kmail, open the message. Observe that the invitation contains a line such
as
"ATTENDEE;ROLE=REQ-PARTICIPANT;PARTSTAT=NEEDS-ACTION;RSVP=FALSE;cn=invi...@example.com;MAILTO:invi...@example.com",
which is RFC2445 compliant.
5. Click "Accept".

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:
1. The event is added to the korganizer calendar.
2. No response is sent.

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR:
1. The event is added to the korganizer calendar.
2. A response is sent.

Finally, note that RFC2445 specifies that the default is "FALSE", so really no
response should be sent unless (1) the user is explicitly listed as an
attendee, and (2) the ATTENDEE line specifies RSVP=TRUE. I guess we could also
allow the user to override this rule and send a response even if not requested
or if the user is unlisted.

See also bug 216843 regarding the sending of event acceptance responses.

[Bug 217880] New: Selecting "New Contact" doesn't do anything.

2009-12-08 Thread Ian Turner

Summary: Selecting "New Contact" doesn't do anything.
   Product: kaddressbook
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: vec...@vectro.org
CC: to...@kde.org

Version:(using KDE 4.3.2)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

I discovered this bug after upgrading to Ubuntu Karmic Koala. I am not using
Kubuntu. If you'd rather I report this bug over at launchpad.net first, just
let me know.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Start Kaddressbook.
2. Click the "New Contact" button, or browse to File...New...Contact.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:
Dialog box would appear prompting information on new contact.

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR:
Nothing happens (no crash, no dialog box, no feedback of any kind).

Since this isn't a crash, I haven't a backtrace to provide. Let me know if
there are any interesting breakpoints you'd like to look at, though, and I can
open this up in the debugger and let you know what I find.

Cheers,

This feature will not be added until someone who has the time to write a patch
actually does so. The primary kmail maintainers don't seem to feel that this is
an important issue, and since kmail is a community project, they are perfectly
entitled not to work on it. Complaining will not result in a speedier
resolution of this or any other bug.

If some of the people clamoring for this feature are willing to pay to have it
done, I'd certainly be willing to chip in. I don't know how much time it would
take to add this feature, but I'd guess that a bounty of around US$5000 would
attract some interest.

to send a message. However, the message is in fact stored in my sent-mail

I am not using any filters. And I can drag items from other IMAP servers into

Besides the kmail box, I have control of the IMAP server, so I'm available for
