[kmail2] [Bug 388451] New: Kmail doesn't display content of email with huge ascii content

2018-01-02 Thread JHF2442
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=388451

Bug ID: 388451
Summary: Kmail doesn't display content of email with huge ascii
content
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 5.7.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: UI
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: j-kde_...@joel-hatsch.net
  Target Milestone: ---

Getting output of cronjobs (rsync logfiles) sent per email.

Depending on the changes, those emails can become quite huge (but only contain
ascii text, no html, no attachements).

If the body size is above a certain limit, the content of the email is no
longer displayed. Kmail is unresponsive for a certain time, but after it
recovers and normal operation is possible (like selecting another email :-) ),
but the real content is never displayed. I'm assuming it tries to render the
email but aborts after a certain timeout occurs.

Regarding the size, I can only tell that 50kB renders fine, while > 1MB doesn't
display

"Not rendered" means the preview window still display the previous content
(previously selected email), and double-clicking on a huge email opens up a new
window with no content (even not the email header is displayed), only the grey
bar on the left side is shown ("no HTML Message")

2015-12-28 Thread JHF2442 via KDE Bugzilla

Bug ID: 357269
Summary: Can't import custom message list aggregation and theme
from older config
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: config dialog
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: j-kde_...@joel-hatsch.net

Newest kmail version stores its kmail2rc in ~/.config instead of
~/.kde4/share/config
Customised message aggregation and theming info were not imported into new
config, nor can they be added by manually editing the kmail2rc file

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. export one of the 3 default themes to a file
2. edit that file, copy the theming from the old kmail2rc into it
3. change "Set3" to "Set0" :-)
4. import theme into kmail

Actual Results:
nothing happens, no error message, no new theme visible

Expected Results:
new theme available in the list

just *any* way of importing data would make me happy :-)

Same issue here with kde 4.9.2 (arch linux)
problem seems to be solved by "server side subscription" activated.
Deactivating it and checking mail, all emails in the inbox appear.
previously, inbox was excluded from mail check : using akonadikonsole's
debugger it showed that the query was to get alll subelements, and then query
each of them recursively, but the INBOX itself was never queried

Messages in tags virtual folders are not treated as messages in other ("real")
mail folders

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Tag one message
Go to corresponding tags virtual folder
Drag and drop message (intention=move) found there to any mail folder

Actual Results:
Message is copied there (as shown by icon "+" during drag & drop), original
message is still in original folder, but now a second message resides in the
destination folder

Expected Results:
Message should be moved to destination folder, as this would happen with just
any other email I move from one mail folder to the other

[Bug 286525] New: Message tags not online by default

2011-11-13 Thread JHF2442
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=286525

Summary: Message tags not online by default
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.7
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: folders
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: j-kde_...@joel-hatsch.net

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.3)
OS:Linux

Added "tags" as resource to kmail. Deactivated button "turn offline when
exiting kmail".
Also defined 3 custom tags for my messages and configured them to be "toolbar
buttons"

Upon reboot, tags folders are not shown anymore, neither the toolbar buttons.
Using akonadiconsole, I restarted the tags resource -> upon kmail restart, tag
folders and toolbar buttons were present anew.

Narrowed this down that it is sufficient to select the tags resource in
akonadiconsole and hit the "synchronize" button (restart not needed). Then
start kmail and everything is OK

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
boot, log in, start kmail
-> no tags folder displayed
-> no message tags in toolbar
close kmail
start akonadiconsole, click on "Tags" resource
click on "Synchronize"
start kmail
-> tags folder is shown
-> tag buttons shown in toolbar

Expected Results:
tags folders should be shown upon kmail's start

Tested with 4.7, seems to be a little better :
- in folder People/Alice -> emails marked as read remain read
- in folder People/Alice/Urgent -> emails always go back to unread upon
refresh/rescan

With 4.6.5 , emails in People/Alice and People/Alice/Urgent always were marked
as unread. Unfortunately, I have no emails in People/, so I can't tell the
effect there

Version: 2.1.1 (using KDE 4.6.5)
OS:Linux

messages from old maildirs are marked as unread - why ? good question.

marking the messages as read, they appear anew unread upon "Update folder"
command.

However, not all emails in the folder are marked as unread, and it's not
affecting all folders (but many)

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
- "update folder" command
- mark all emails as read (no matter how)
- no unread emails
- "update folder" command

Actual Results:
emails are already unread

Expected Results:
emails remain read

maildir folders come from kmail1.x

good news : removing the .folder_name.index file (replace folder_name with name
of the folder) seems to solve the issue - is this OK or does it involve
collateral damage ?

possibly a dupe of #276856, but I don't see the issue in my inbox, rather in my
"historic" folders, so maybe a different root cause

[Bug 243569] Kmail is extremely slow and uses CPU without any reason

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243569

JHF2442 changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||j-kde_...@joel-hatsch.net

--- Comment #5 from JHF2442 2010-11-07 17:53:29 ---
Hello *,

not sure if this is the same issue : in my case the high CPU load is caused by
a "check for mail" on a disconnected imap account, so it is not "without any
reason"

using "connected" imap, the check of the 500+ folders lasts <10s, using the
disconnected imap account type, the update lasts ~10min, with hich (75%) CPU
usage by kmail. I therefore exclude a global issue with the imap server
(dovecot, ubuntu 10.04). It looks however as if the disconnected imap variant
was doing more/different things, which extremely slow down the access.

this happens as well on first as on further checks, so it is not related to
some kind of initial setting of data structures/refresh of information.

clicking on the status progress bar (the blue widget in the bottom right corner
of the kmail window), it shows that ~1 folder/s is refreshed. the displayed
messages are "Retrieving message list", "Checking for validity" and
"synchronization done"

using dovecot's rawlog feature, I see that the disconnected imap uses following
commands to refresh one folder :
2 NAMESPACE
3 LIST "" ""
4 LIST "" "Mailing_lists.XYZ"
5 SELECT "Mailing_lists.XYZ"
6 LIST "" "Mailing_lists.XYZ.%"
7 NOOP
8 UID FETCH 1:* (FLAGS RFC822.SIZE)

wheras the "connected" imap account issues :
2 NAMESPACE
3 LIST "" ""
4 LIST "" "Mailing_lists.XYZ"
5 SELECT "Mailing_lists.XYZ"
6 NOOP
7 UID FETCH 4927:* (UID RFC822.SIZE FLAGS ENVELOPE BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS
(REFERENCES)])

I think the main difference is the last line : disconnected imap fetches ALL
messages, which results in higher effort per folder.

Could somebody check why this is implemented like that ?

Thanks
