I can confirm this with the latest git sources. Tested with Open XChange,
pushing to the server works, pull doesn't.

 Thanks, very useful!

Is it a well-known IMAP server (Dovecot, Cyrus,) or some proprietary
 implementation?

It's a dovecot 2.2.5 from Gentoo. As far as I see there is only pigeonhole
support added and no other patches.

@Johannes, can you please check in Akonadi Console - Db Browser -
collectiontable that no collection with the name you are trying to create
exists there, then try to create it and check again. If a new record with
the name and remoteId filled is there, then there's some weird bug that
KMail or the IMAP resource is trying to create the collections twice. Make
sure you have Debugger enabled when creating the collection. If you get
the error again, please provide entire output of the Debugger tab. Thanks

output from the Debugger tab:

Is it possible that the folder already existed on server before you tried to
create it in KMail, but maybe you just weren't subscribed to it?

No, I've tried with a complete new account that never existed neither on the
imap-server nor akonadi. Creating a new, not already existing folder gives the
akonadi-error.

imap-server. I've tested with standalone mysql server and with internal one. It
is mariadb-5.5.31 if this matters.

[Bug 281797] kmail2/akonadi handels maildir incorrect

--- Comment #4 from Johannes Hirte johannes hirte fem tu-ilmenau de

Still an issue with KDE SC 4.7.4. For example, I've fetched some mail via pop3.
They were stored in the local inbox folder in the new/ directory. When reading
them they were marked as read but stayed in the new/ direcotry. And this seems
to be a problem. When I've tried to move them (in this case by marking them as
spam manually), I got an error that this messages couldn't be moved. Marking
them as unread and after this as read again, they were moved to the correct
cur/ directory and now moving worked.

Kmail2 is really unusable with this behavior.

Surprisingly, with other filters it works. The mails that were moved by filters
on fetch time into different folders are moved to the correct cur/ directory
when I read them.
A second test with inbox also worked. The mail is moved into the cur/ directory
when read. When marking it as spam, the mail is moved into the designated spam
folder and there into the new/ directory, where it stays. Also moving them from
the spam folder to trash puts them into the new/ directory there and not into
cur/.

This also happens on creating new (sub)folders in kmail2. I've seen this with
local maildir storage. After creating a new folder in kmail, I can't access the
folder. Instead I get the error message: Local Folders: Maildir '' for
collection '' is invalid.

The folder is correctly created in the filesystem. I'm also able to move mails
in kmail to this folder, but they are lost then. A workaround was to remove the
folder in kmail after creating it and than recreate it. After removing it in
kmail it wasn't removed in the filesystem. When recreating the folder in kmail
I was able to use it normaly.

   Summary: kmail2/akonadi handels maildir incorrect
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: johannes.hi...@fem.tu-ilmenau.de

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.1)
OS:Linux

Kmail2 with akonadi stores all maildir-mails in the new/ folder without
info-suffix. Wheres kmail1 stored mails in the correct directory (cur/ when
processed) named like 1309962120.21613.toOhv:2,S, kmail2 names them like
{fd227731-e306-4442-8815-cfed25d16f60}. Also the naming is unconventional, it
is not wrong as long the mails are put in the right directory with the correct
suffix.

Additional, when moving mails from an old kmaildir directory, some of them are
marked as unread in the new maildir from kmail2. Also, when coping from a
kmaildir, often only the headers where copied and the body was left empty. But
I'm not sure, if this is related to the wrong naming/storing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
store mails in a local maildir
copy/move mails from an old kmaildir

Actual Results:
mails are stored at wrong place/with wrong name
mails got copied incomplete and lose their read-state

Expected Results:
mails should be stored in the correct maildir-way, don't lose their read-state
and got copied complete

Version: 4.7 (using KDE 4.7.1)

I've created a new local folder with name archiv and appended accidently a +.
So I renamed the folder (deleted the +). After this I moved some mail (121
messages) into this new, now renamed folder and got 121 error messages that the
folder with name archiv+ could not be found.
I've tried to reproduce this with coping messages, but this didn't produced the
error messages. A second try with moving gave me the errors again.
However, the message are moved to the correct place within kmail. I didn't
checked in the filesystem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
create a new folder, rename it and move messages into it

Actual Results:
for every message a error occours that the original created folder couldn't be

messages should be moved without error
