[Bug 296353] New: Kontact (KMail) hangs while sending mail than crashes while closing

2012-03-19 Thread Lukasz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296353

Bug ID: 296353
  Severity: crash
   Version: unspecified
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Kontact (KMail) hangs while sending mail than crashes
while closing
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: lukasz.kur...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Ubuntu Packages
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: kontact

Application: kontact (4.8.0)
KDE Platform Version: 4.8.1 (4.8.1)
Qt Version: 4.8.0
Operating System: Linux 3.3.0-030300rc7-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu precise (development branch)

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I've written my e-mail than after pressing the send button (set to send now).
Editor (default) window greys out and nothing more happens.
I have PGP enabled for my email so I expected the PGP password entry window to
show but that does not happen. If then I switch to kontact main window and
close it (editor window stays grey - I'm not cancelling my preciuos already
typed in mail). Kontact end with this crash. After reopening Kontact my
prepared mail pops up (editor window) so at least I can copy it's content and
sent it using another client.
I'm not sure but it's possible that I can send only one mail using
Kontact/KMail after starting my System after that one mail next ones are as
described above.

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.

--- Comment #4 from Lukasz Sowinski 2009-08-19

This problem may be still present in the KDE 4.3.0 release (Gentoo). However,
both kaddressbook, and selecting an address for a new email, seem to work
perfectly fine.

There is a simple 'workaround' to the empty folder list (as mentioned
originally by m.w...@web.de):
1. Close kmail (not minimize, close) and start it again,
2. The very first attempt (and only the first) to add to the addressbook works
correctly (although the cancel button still produces the incorrect dialog box).

Moreover, a similar problem (the cancel button part) was also mentioned in the
bug #202070.

I've got the same problem (Gentoo ~amd64). However, it's not completely true
(at least for me) that nothing happens when "rightalt+o" gets pressed.
*Some*thing happens then, because the very next key pressed (any key) is eaten.
As if it treated "rightalt+o" as a begin of a "keyboard shortcut chord" (maybe
it's so, although I reviewed all shortcut lists and didn't find anything like
this).

Yes, it happens only with kmail. External application launched from kmail (eg.
kaddressbook) work fine. And it seems independent of keyboard layout, I tried
many different layouts with the same effect. If the code from the master
repository works OK, maybe it's a debug hack left accidentally in the code of
1.13.6 and then removed?
