I haven't seen this issue since the last or so update (running KMail 5.1.3/KF

At some point before that it got really bad and I got spammed by these error
messages but not anymore.

Still happens in KMail 5.0.2.

Since I mostly use KMail as an oversized biff and mainly use the webmailer it
is a bit irritating if get a desktop notification when I just move a read mail
back to the Inbox as part of my Inbox Zeroish mail workflow.

[Akonadi] [Bug 332323] New: Error in IMAP command UID: Too long argument

2014-03-19 Thread Malte S . Stretz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=332323

Bug ID: 332323
Summary: Error in IMAP command UID: Too long argument
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.12
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: chrig...@fastmail.fm
  Reporter: m...@apache.org
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org, vkra...@kde.org

I regularly get an error popup which tells me "Error in IMAP command UID: Too
long argument".

I finally found the time to debug this and posted the relevant IMAP output
below. The affected folder seems to be a mailinglist folder with lots of old
mail. I have auto-expiry configured for that folder so maybe that triggers the
issue.

The server is running a rather old Dovecot 1.1.11-0ubuntu11.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open KMail
2. Wait (probably until mail arrives)
3. Error
Actual Results:
Will be attached ("Comments cannot be longer than 65535 characters.")

Expected Results:
No error

[Akonadi] [Bug 326045] New: Akonadi runs dialog amok if authentication fails

2013-10-15 Thread Malte S . Stretz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=326045

Bug ID: 326045
Summary: Akonadi runs dialog amok if authentication fails
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 4.11
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: er...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@apache.org
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org, vkra...@kde.org

This either started with the update to 4.11 lately or because a password
expired. Just have a look at the screenshot I'll attach. I get a new dialog
every few minutes:

The server for account "zimbratest.example.com" refused the supplied username
and password. Do you want to go to the settings, have another attempt at
logging in, or do nothing?

Login failed, server replied: A02 NO AUTHENTICATE failed

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have an IMAP account which won't let you log in
2. Have fun
Actual Results:
See screenshot.

Expected Results:
I should be bugge dabout the wrong password at most once. Actually, I don't
want Akonadi to pop up any dialogs on my desktop at all, just use a
notification.

Another note: I've been spammed by other Akonadi notifications like this before
(on 4.8 or so). So it is more a general problem of the Akonadi notifications.

  Hardware: Other
Status: NEW
 Component: general
   Product: Akonadi

Akonadi spams me with the notification "Items requested for an unknown
collection" all day long (cf. Screenshot). I have no idea what it is trying to
tell me and I count myself as a more tech savvy person. I can't even deduce the
correct ressource in this case since I have miltiple ressources with that name
(IMAP, CalDAV, CardDAV). Since I added the latter just recently, I suspect the
*DAV ones.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log in to KDE
2. Get a notification
3. while (true) {
3a. Work
3b. Get a notification
3c. }
Actual Results:
Akoandi spams me with notifications all day long and I have no idea what they
mean.

Expected Results:
Please give me, as a user, a hint on how I can fix this. A Details button would
be useful, or a direct link to report a bug or something; I have no idea what
you are talking about my dear Akonadi but you are pretty annoying.

Classification: Unclassified

  Hardware: Ubuntu Packages
Status: NEW
 Component: DAV Resource
   Product: Akonadi

I tried to connect to our company's Zimbra server (version 7.2.0 NE) via the
DAV groupware configuration wizard. Looks like I mistyped my password because
the reply when I tested the connection was "An error occurred: There was a
problem with the request. Unknown error code 0 Please send a full bug report at
http://bugs.kde.org. (401)."

Once I fixed the password, everything was fine. The HTTP status code should be
interpreted correctly/more helpfully.

This might be the same bug as bug 301630.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to configure a Zimbra DAV resource
2. Mistype your password
3. Press the Test button when you reach that step.
Actual Results:
See above.

My Trash folder in the local folders is still broken in 4.8.0, I get a "Unknown
error. (Unable to fetch item from backend)" dialog and the "Given Item
Identifier is empty" popup.

I could clean up that trash folder but shouldn't KMail be able to cope with the
stuff in there? Once I rm'd the folder we won't have a testcase anymore...

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #272920 +++

See bug 272920 for the background story. Short version: In version 2.0.95
KMail somehow put some mails which were supposed to be stored in my IMAP Trash
folder in the local folders ("KMail Folders") trash folder. But I couldn't see
them.

Over the time I accumulated quite some mails in that trash folder, nowdays it
shows 73 unread mails but when I select it, I can't see anything, the folder
spinner doesn't stop spinning. Today I noticed the popup "Kmail Folders: Given
item identifier is empty" for the first time.

I'll attach the full output of ls -ltr in the trash folder, but here's an
excerpt:

Compiler: cc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-21-generic

See attachment 43045 from bug 235459: The To: label is vertically not aligned
to the top so with a lot of (enterprisy) recipients it looks like the first
bunch of addresses belongs to the sender.

There should be some way to separate the two blocks visually, maybe with boxes
with a slightly different background, a horizontal rule or just by top-aligning
the labels.

[Bug 272920] New: Odd sync issues when deleting mail

2011-05-10 Thread Malte S . Stretz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=272920

Summary: Odd sync issues when deleting mail
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 2.0.95
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kde-bug...@msquadrat.de

Created an attachment (id=59841)
 --> (http://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=59841)
Screenshot of the Conflict Resolution dialog

Version: 2.0.95 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS:Linux

I opened up my IMAP Inbox, saw a spam mail, selected it and hit Delete (befoew
the content was loaded). I was greeted by a Conflict Resolution dialog box
which asked me to resolve a conflict in the metadata (how is a "regular" user
supposed to answer this question?), see attached screenshot. Jusdging from the
modification time of the left column, it tried to resolve a conflict between a
dummy/empty object and the then-loaded mail.

I just pressed Escape (which resolution is that?) and afterwards I couldn't
find the mail in the Trash folder (the wrong one BTW, cf. bug 259422).

The debug output wasn't helpful either. I posted it below; it appeared AFTER I
dismissed the Conflict Resolution dialog.

Finally, I had a look at the local trash folder (is it supposed to be a broken
Maildir?) and discovered that it contained 5 messages while KMail only displays
2 (I can't tell if the deleted mail is there since it was a spam mail I receive
quite often; but the timestamp 2011-05-10 10:41 looks like its that mail):

Looks like this is worse than I thought: Some of my folders are empty (see bug
271913) and when I hit F5 I get the quoted error and no mail. Looks like this
happens for all non-toplevel folders (Inbox, Sent, etc. work, Sent/2011 eg.
doesn't).

After the upgrade from KMail1 to KMail2 I noticed that the settings under
Appearance are all (mostly?) set back to the defaults. Under Message Window I
have almost all options set to non-default values, that's where I noticed it
first. The Default Theme under Message List was set back to Fancy, too.

While most of this stuff is only slightly annoying, there is also the Fallback
Encoding setting, which was changed to Arabic (I guess because it is the first
element in the drop down list) instead of a sane (as in: matching my system
settings/location or being helpful with broken mails) value like ISO 8859-1 or
UTF-8.

I just upgraded to KMail 4.6-beta5, via the Kubuntu (natty) experimental PPA
(KDE 4.6.3, Akonadi 1.5.2).

After an otherwise uneventful migration, I was spammed by the Notification area
with messages like "Remote Folders: Select failed, server replied: A47 NO
Invalid mailbox name". After KMail started successfully, these appear
regularly.

"Remote Folders" is the name of my IMAP account, the Ann are probably the
IMAP sequence numbers from my Dovecot server. Still, I have no idea what is
wrong here or even which folder is acting weird. Also, I have idea on how to
fix this. That will be true for the average user, too, so unless the errors
are significant (looks like everything works up to now), KMail should not spam
me with errors I can't fix anyway.

After a while the error "Remote Folders: Unknown error. (Could not create
collection)" popped up as well.

The server is dovecot 1.1.11-0ubuntu11.

Reproducible: Didn't try

I'm currently staring at a grey Migrator window while my notebook's fan is
going crazy. Last entry from the migration.log I digged up:
[Mon May 9 14:07:35 2011] Info : Starting cache migration for folder Spam of
account Remote Folders

That folder is huge, a few thousand or tens of thousands mails. Looks like the
Migrator tries to do the whole folder in one go and forgets to update the GUI.

As a normal user I'd be tempted to kill that process.

UPSTREAM from KMail POV is Akonadi which does support IDLE. All we need is a
release (or beta) of KMail using Akonadi. And according to
<http://dot.kde.org/2011/03/15/9th-annual-pim-meeting-renews-commitment-innovation>
such a version should be here RSN (like this year).

[Bug 244489] New: KMail search gets confused with temporary files (choking on swallowed characters in filenames)

2010-07-13 Thread Malte S . Stretz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=244489

Summary: KMail search gets confused with temporary files
(choking on swallowed characters in filenames)
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.5
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: search
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kde-bug...@msquadrat.de

Version: 1.13.5 (using Devel)
OS:Linux

While trying to debug bug 211885, I stumbled upon a weird behaviour of KMail,
as described in comment #65 over there:

8<
[...] I see another weird thing, KMail is renaming/removing the
search folders randomly. I actually saw it first in comment #63: I created a
Search Folder named test and exited. After I restarted Kmail, I had two Search
Folders: test and Test. Well, I didn't have enough coffee yet, so I discarded
it as a personal brainfuck. I removed both the folders.

Now I tested it again and kept the Last Search folder name, restarted KMail,
and I suddenly had my old folder called test again. With the old search
settings. WTF?

So I removed test again, did another search called Last Search, shut down KMail
and had a look at the ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search directory:

m...@otherland:~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/search$ cat Last\ Search
[Search Folder]
Base=.1081015519.directory/INBOX
Recursive=true
contentsA=testest
fieldA=
funcA=contains
name=
operator=and
rules=1

So far so good. Now I restarted KMail and had no Search Folder at all! The
file Last Search was removed from the harddisk as well.

Something is very odd around here. But KMail doesn't crash.
8<

It seems like KMail got confused internally about its searches. Next is the
debug output etc. of KMail starting with an existing search folder Last Search
("Can not find parent folder for Last Search"), once it runs I created a new
search called test. Note that KMail swallows the last character of the old
search folder name (".Last Searc.index.sorted").

I can't reproduce this in KMail 1.13.5 from KDE 4.5 RC2. Last Search isn't
remembered between restarts, a manually saved Search Folder doesn't crash KMail

I've got this very same bug, it seems like Akonadi doesn't initialize its
resources quick enough. There are a lot of bugs like this, eg. bug 227913 and
bug 240695 which are duplicated to bug 185395. The latter doesn't really sound
like this problem so I'm reluctant to close it as a dup, too. If it magically
goes away with Akonadi 1.3.2, I guess it was a dup (this is Akonadi
1.3.1-0ubuntu3).

[Bug 235718] New: Foreground jobs should have precedence over background jobs

2010-04-29 Thread Malte S . Stretz

Summary: Foreground jobs should have precedence over background
jobs
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.2
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kde-bug...@msquadrat.de

Version: 1.13.2 (using 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-21-generic

I just tried to move 5000 or 6000 mails or so from one IMAP folder to another.
That took ages (and crashed KMail, see bug 235715). While it was moving mails,
KMail was still responsive but I wasn't able to switch folders, I guess because
the refresh job was queued after all the move jobs.

If possible, IMAP jobs which are triggered by a direct user request (eg. click
on a folder) should be prepended to the job queue when it contains background
jobs already.

Summary: Crash when moving lots of mails on IMAP server
   Product: kmail

  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR

Application: kmail (1.13.2)
KDE Platform Version: 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2)
Qt Version: 4.6.2
Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

-- Information about the crash:
I just changed my Sieve script to filter Spam mails. The version beforehand
moved mails to Trash (can't remember why), now I chose my Spam folder. To move
all my Spam mail (~5000+) from Trash to Spam I created a Search looking for
X-Spam-Flag == YES, chose the Search folder, selected all mail and dragged and
dropped them into the Spam folder.

This took ages so I went away. I think first I tried to open my Inbox which
failed because KMail was busy. Anyway, when I just came back to my place after
an hour or so, KMail was crashed.

I just restarted KMail and it moved/copied ~5800 mails to the Spam folder while
I still have ~500 (spam) mails in the Trash folder.

[Bug 235460] New: Weird display of recipients with Enterprise Headers

2010-04-26 Thread Malte S . Stretz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235460

Summary: Weird display of recipients with Enterprise Headers
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.2
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kde-bug...@msquadrat.de

Version: 1.13.2 (using 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-21-generic

See attachment 43045 from bug 235459: The To: label is vertically not aligned
to the top so with a lot of (enterprisy) recipients it looks like the first
bunch of addresses belongs to the sender.

There should be some way to separate the two blocks visually, maybe with boxes
with a slightly different background, a horizontal rule or just by top-aligning
the labels.

See attached screenshot (maybe related to bug 209566): The list of attachments
is just put over the recipient addresses when the list is expanded. Doesn't
look very enterprisy. Some rounded corners and half-transparent/blurred
background might help.

[Bug 235454] New: Add to Address Book confirmation dialog should have a button the edit the new entry

When you add an address to the address book via the Add to Address Book context
menu, you finally get a confirmation dialog which tells you

'The email address Foo Bar was added to your address book; you can add more
information to this entry by opening the address book.'

There should be an additional button in that dialog to edit the address
directly (which should be possible as KMail offers an Open if Address Book item
in the context menu once you've added the address).

Good idea but I think it is not exactly a dup of bug 131219 but an additional,
different feature.

[Bug 235453] New: Modifying the Quick Search query should keep the current selection

In KAddressBook, you can type something into the Quick Search bar and the
result list is filtered as requested. You can select a contact from the
filtered list which is displayed correctly.

But as soon asl you click the Clear button in the Quick Search bar, the
selection jumps back to the first contact in your list.

Hmm... actually, it seems like any modifications to the Quick Search bar does
make the focus jump to the first item of the filtered list. Eg. you've got
Anna and Anne in your address book, type An, select Anne, type another n and
the selection jumps back to Anna though you selected Anne before.

This seems to be fixed in KDE 4.4.2 (KMail 1.13.2), at least I can't reproduce
it.

NB: Autocompletion seems to work only if you type the address as it was added
to your address book; eg. I added somebody who's From name is "COMPANY, His
Name" and the name was completed only if I started to type COMPANY, not the
first name.

If you've got only one address book and use the Add to Address Book feature
from KMail, it always asks you which address book it should add the address
too. Even if there is only one. Either that one should be chosen
automatically or at least the default address book should be preselected so I
can just hit return and everything is fine.

With my CAcert certificate for my IMAP server I'm suffering of the infamous bug
162485 on startup. If the warning dialog isn't discarded quick enough, it
seems like KMail silenntly loses the connection to the IMAP server (dovecot in
my case).

This results in a stale inbox (ie. I see the mails from the last time I had
KMail open) but isn't noticeable until you try to refresh that folder or switch
folders (which runs into a timeout).

I write my mails both in English (most) and German. The default language is
English, so everything is marked as wrong when I start writing a German one and
I have to manually switch the spell checker language. This gets annoying over
time.

It would be great if KAddressBook had an extra field "Spoken Languages" on the
Misc tab and when I choose a recipient, the spell checker language is
automagically switched.

Extra ideas:
 * If not set, guess the language based on the Geo location I can already
enter.
 * If multiple languages are available, To takes precedence, Cc second.
 * Maybe some voting kind algorithm based on the languages of all the
recipients.
