There are as of Akregator 5.16.3 (20.12.3) "hidden" shortcuts for the links
inside an article.

To show these shortcuts you have to press and release Ctrl, see attachment for
an example.

For my own use case (which is very similar to Alex's - almost always: only see
unread articles, *do* have the filter bar visible; occasionally: see all
articles and/or filter articles) I'd be happy if the filter bar would only get
focus when you click inside it to type but no when you click on the drop down
to filter by status.

As of Akregator 5.16.3 (20.12.3) this behaviour is still present but it's not a
problem with Akregator, it happens in other apps to that you can't assign
KeyPadEnter as a shortcut.

I tried e.g. in Konsole and when I press KPEnter it adds it to the shortcut as
if it was a modifier.

What's more, if I keep pressing KPEnter eventually the app crashes.

I haven't experienced Akregator crashes in a long time (maybe an ocassional
crash but not nearly as often as Pekka Korkki reports).

Since Fedora 31 is (almost?) EOL I'd be nice to know if this still happens in
newer versions of the distro with more up-to-date packages.

Otherwise I believe this bug can be closed.

As of Akregator 5.16.3 (20.12.3) this behaviour is still present, I just made a
backup of ~/.local/share/akregator/ and tried it.

I have disabled both Ctrl+R and Ctrl+Shift+R a long time ago to avoid a
disaster :)

An option would be to keep the shortcut(s) but show a dialog box confirming
that the user actually wants to mark all of the feeds as read, or maybe an
inline dialog with a, say, 10 seconds timeout to cancel the operation if a
dialog box is considered inappropriate.

As of Akregator 5.16.3 (20.12.3), if you select text from an article and right
click it there's a context menu offering to translate or search in Google,
Wikipedia.

There's also the option to select among several other search engines,
translators, dictionaries, etc.

Actually, at least as of Akregator 5.16.3 (20.12.3), if you press the
RightArrow key the cursor goes to the first article on the feed (read or
unread) and LeftArrow goes to the last article.

There are sepparate shortcuts to go to the first unread article
(KeyPadPlusSign) or last unread article (KeyPadMinusSign).

SUMMARY
Ctrl+I, the default shortcut for "Mark as Important", conflicts with the
"hidden" shortcut "I" for opening a URL inside an article.


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select an article which title starts with an "I"
2. Press and release Ctrl to show the "hidden" shortcuts


OBSERVED RESULT
The article's title gets "I" as a shortcut to open it in a new tab or an
external browser but pressing "I" marks the article as important instead.


EXPECTED RESULT
The article's title (and any visible URL inside said article) should either
skip the letter "I" as a shortcut, as done when a title starts with "N" (since
Ctrl+N is "Mark as new"), or Akregator should ignore/bypass Ctr+I as it does
when a title starts with an "U" (Ctrl+U is "Mark as unread") or "E" (Ctrl+E is
"Mark as read")

Ideally, for consistency, Akregator should either skip all of "E", "I", "N" and
"U" asl URL shortcuts, or ignore all of Ctrl+E, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+N and Ctrl+U when
the "hidden" shortcuts are shown so one can use those letters to open the URL,
the latter being my preferred solution.

In newer versions, kmail (and any other application) should remember its size
and position automatically, no need for windows rules. At least that works for
me.

Hmm, after searching the code for "POP3 Account" I found this 2 lines:

Which made me think that naming/renaming the accounts should work.

And it did!


Maybe it's a bug only during creation of the accounts?

Just in case, this is what I did:

- Opened kmail, went to settings - accounts: All of the names were "POP3
Account"
- Edited one by one changing their names, it still showed "POP3 Account" in the
list but editing them again showed the right name inside
- Closed kmail
- Stopped akonadi and started it again
- Started kmail, went to settings - accounts: All of the names were those i
set!

SUMMARY

Today I Slackware upgraded MariaDB from 10.5.11 to 10.6.4 and after a reboot
akonadi started throwing errors.

I started mysql with `/usr/libexec/mysqld
--defaults-file=/home/myuser/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf
--datadir=/home/myuser/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/
--socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket
--pid-file=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.pid &`

Then unsuccesfully tried a `mysql_upgrade
--socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket` which seemed to run but in the
mysql log I see:

error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost''


I also can't connect with `mysql --socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket`,
same "Access denied" error.

I killed the mysql process and started it again, ran mysql_upgrade with the
same exact result.

I made a backup of /home/myuser/.local/share/akonadi and tried downgrading,
doing a dump and restore to no avail, I still see logged:

DB error:  "Incorrect datetime value: '2021-08-07T23:34:22Z' for column
`akonadi`.`pimitemtable`.`datetime` at row 1"


My biggest problem is that now kmail doesn't work anymore, I tried an empty
akonadi database and I may have broken it even more :/


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Upgrade MariaDB 10.5.x to 10.6.4
2. Start/restart akonadi (e.g. akonadictl start/restart)
3. Check the logs

I had already done a mysql_upgrade and akonadi's mysqld wouldn't start, so in
case this helps other people with a broken akonadi, here's what I did (YMMV):


- Under "[mysqld]" in ~/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf I added:

"innodb_force_recovery = 2"

- Made sure it and akonadi were not running, and started mysqld with:

/usr/libexec/mysqld
--defaults-file=/home/myuser/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf
--datadir=/home/myuser/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/
--socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket
--pid-file=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.pid &

- Then I backed up akonadi's DB and deleted it after:

mysqldump -Q --socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket --add-drop-table
akonadi > akonadi.sql
mysql--socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket -e "DROP DATABASE akonadi"

- Stoped mysql:

mysqladmin -Q --socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket shutdown

- Downgraded MariaDB 10.6.4 to 10.5.11 and started akonadi to recreate its
database:

akonadictl start

- After a few seconds I stopped akonadi and restored the SQL dump:

/usr/libexec/mysqld
--defaults-file=/home/myuser/.local/share/akonadi/mysql.conf
--datadir=/home/myuser/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/
--socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket
--pid-file=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.pid &

mysql --socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket -e akonadi < akonadi.sql

- Shut down mysql, started akonadi again:

mysqladmin -Q --socket=/run/user/1000/akonadi/mysql.socket shutdown
akonadictl start

- Started kmail and everything looks good so far!


(Before trying all of this , out of caution, I made a backup of my mail folder
and everything related to akonadi and kmail I found under ~/.cache/, ~/.config/
and ~/.local/)

Another confirm from me, in my case the size column gets wider and the date
column gets narrower, making it hard to read as in the screenshot.

Unfortunately this doesn't work for my use case, it makes date and size columns

Other POP3 servers were working fine for me (courier and dovecot POP3 servers).

After this fix only Gmail POP3 works, kmail/akonadi can't connect to the others

How/Where can I see some (debug) logs to see if this is actually the problem?

I don't see anything relevant in ~/.local/share/akonadi/Akonadi.error or

Oh! OK, I changed my accounts from STARTTLS to SSL/TLS, restarted akonadi and
the connections worked!

To clarify: the connection works in SSL/TLS mode but if I go back to STARTTLS
and restart akonadi it fails again with the same error message (sorry it's in
Spanish but I guess you'll understand it :-) ):

SUMMARY

Hello all,

A few seconds after resuming from sleep I see an SQL query running in akonadi's
mysql that locks any other operation, e.g.: kmail won't show emails, I can't
backup akonadi's DB with mysqldump, etc.
This happens everyday after waking my laptop from sleep.

If I stop akonadi the mysql server eventually stops accepting connections but a
`ps faxu | grep -v grep | grep akonadi` shows it's still running and the only
way to stop it is to `kill -9` said process.

After that akonadi can be started and everything is OK untill the next
sleep/resume cycle.

In the mysql log I see lines like these when the stop fails because of this
query:

BTW, if instead of stoping akonadi I issue a shutdown to mysql directly (e.g.
mysqladmin --socket=/run/user/$(id -u)/akonadi/mysql.socket shutdown), the
mysql server still has to be forcibly killed, so I'm not sure if this is
akonadi's fault for sending that SELECT query or a mariadb bug.

BTW 2, I don't have the exact SQL query right now and ATM I can't suspend my
laptop but I'll update this bug report as soon as I can (later today o tomorrow
morning).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. With akonadi running, put the laptop to sleep
2. Wake up the laptop and monitor akonadi's mysql processes list (e.g.
mysqladmin --socket=/run/user/$(id -u)/akonadi/mysql.socket processlist)

OBSERVED RESULT
There's a SELECT query which never ends and is unkillable

EXPECTED RESULT
No extraneous SELECT and akonadi/kmail working properly

This happens to me too since the last upgrade of kmail: kmail2 5.21.0 (22.08.0)

I don't have Google contacts, only local contacts (kaddressbook).

I only ever get autocompletion from recent addresses, never from kaddressbook.

Also, I guess becouse of this, mails from my contacts which should be displayed
as HTML are displayed as text only.

A couple days ago I received an update to mariadb version:

$ mysql -V
mysql  Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.6.10-MariaDB, for Linux (x86_64) using readline 5.1

So far I haven't noticed any more stuck queries fomr akonadi (cross my fingers,
knock on wood, etc).

akonadi was also updated e few days erlier but I think the maruadb upgrade is
what fixed this:

$ akonadictl -v
akonadictl 5.21.1 (22.08.1)

I'll monitor it for a few more days but let's hope this issue has been
resolved.

I believe this has been fixed in the repo already, it just hasn't been released
yet.

Unfortuantely I'm not well versed in iCal format so I don't yhink I'll be able
to spot the error.

Unfortunately, this bug is still present on akregator 5.3.0 (applications
16.08.2) if you have Check feeds on startup enabled.

Feeds also get updated if you use Ctr+L to update all the feeds, even the feeds
configured to never update.

For me this started to happen without restarting kmail, just switching between
folders can make columns resize weirdly.

It's getting very annoying, having to resize kmail's columns 5/6 times a day :(

Akregator with "Show system tray icon" enabled fails to hide to the system tray
when clicking on its icon, and afterwards fails to show up when clicking it
again, you need to run akregator e.g. from krunner for it to show up.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Akregator previously configured with "Show system tray icon" enabled
2. Click on its system tray icon to hide it, nothing happens
3. Close the window with e.g. F4, it goes to the system tray
4. Click on its system tray icon to show it, nothing happens

This still happens with Kmail 6.0.2 (24.02.2).

Sometimes columns also resize during a filtering operation, but this happened
in Plamsa 5's version of Kmail as well.

FWIW, I recently switched to Wayland, which made no diference.

Hi, I have seen a similar issue with kmail on KDE SC 4.8.x (the version we're
currently stuck with at work).

My workaround is to open a konsole and run 'akonadictl stop' and 'akonadictl
status' till everything is stopped (especially the mysql), then I do 'ps fxu |
grep mysql' and kill any instance of akonadi's mysql still running.

After that is a simple matter of running 'akonadictl start' and everything is
working properly again.

This bug is still present in KDE SC 4.11.4.
Unfortunately I can't code C++, but I have a spare laptop where I can try new
