 Fortunately I've never experienced mail loss with KMail. I see you were using
 some KDE 4.1 pre-release. As far as I know some dIMAP related mail loss
 problems have been solved since then. Could you please retry with the latest
 release to see if the problem is still there? (possibly using a test-account)
 
 I think c#5 is completely unrelated and caused by a faulty spam filter
 configuration (not faulty due to the user but due to KMail).

I had the same problem with KDE 4.2.1 and I think I found the reason why it
happened (I never tried to reproduce it).
It was a quite huge mail I received (something like 6 MB) and I stoped kMail
from downloading it before it was in my box. But instead of leaving the mail on
the server it totally deleted the mail.

When I receive a bigger mail with about 4MB or more (don't know exactly when it
gets critical) kmail notifies me that I received a new mail but as soon as I
open the IMAP-folder of my mail server it just won't open and I have to close
kmail during the attempt to open the inbox of the server. After closing kmail
the received mail is lost and not any more on the server. Neither kmail nor the
webinterface of my provider can retrieve it.
