[Akonadi] [Bug 472118] New: Add a way to limit cached IMAP connections

2023-07-09 Thread Shmerl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472118

Bug ID: 472118
Summary: Add a way to limit cached IMAP connections
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: shtetl...@gmail.com
CC: c...@carlschwan.eu
  Target Milestone: ---

Recently my IMAP server started erroring out when using KMail with such error:

Login failed, server replied: A04 NO Too many open connections (50 of
50 for ...)

Support suggested to reduce the setting that limits cached server connections.
Thunderbird has something like that.
See: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1082511

I tried to find such setting in Kmail / Akonadi, but didn't find one. Is it
possible to configure and if not, can such setting be added?

My current setup:
* Kmail / Akonadi: 22.12.3

Thanks.

Hmm, since Qt Web Engine seems to be using Chromium, this might be the upstream
bug:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403752

I think I found the culprit:

apt depends kmail | rg libqt5webengine
  Depends: libqt5webenginecore5 (>= 5.15.2~)

apt depends libqt5webenginecore5 | rg libnss
  Depends: libnss3 (>= 2:3.22)

I can look into Qt Web Engine and how it uses libnss and file a bug there.

For some reason korganizer is using two locations:

$HOME/.local/share/korganizer
$HOME/.local/share/apps/korganizer - this one contains ics calendars.

Why are are two needed? It would be nicer to unify both.

For example use this one for calendars:

$HOME/.local/share/korganizer/calendars

Any news on this? I didn't realize it's such an old standing known bug. It is
pretty annoying visually.

Akonadi is consistently creating this file for me:

$HOME/.config/Unknown
Organization/akonadi_unifiedmailbox_agent.conf_changes.dat

I suppose it should go to $HOME/.config/akonadi instead.

OS: Debian testing.
Akonadi: 21.12.3.

I'll try to narrow it down to some dependency, but it's certainly being created

Currently, Kmail while using libnss creates $HOME/.pki/nssdb directory. Libnss
now supports XDG base directory spec. Clients which use it though need to
explicitly enable that.

See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=818686#c15

Please do it in Kmail to avoid cluttering $HOME.

I have this problem on a newly set up system, and older system with same Kmail
that was setup in in the past with exactly same settings works just fine. I
*don't* have two factor authentication enabled.

Really weird, and it seems to be a bug in Kmail account setup itself, since
older installation works fine.

Currently there is no way to use up / down to navigate Kmail message list and
message body depending on the current panel focus. It's pretty counter
intuitive. Current configuration doesn't allow assigning it to both, and only
one action can be configured.

Can you please enable that depending on what is focused at the moment?

Thanks!

I was bitten by this because Debian testing is still using Kmail 16.04.3. I can
confirm, that setting SieveSupport=false manually in config file for the
corresponding resource helped to work around it.

I support enabling it. For instance, there is no obvious way to select fallback
fonts in the UI editor, and editing HTML could be a feasible workaround.

It it still planned for any future version?
