[Bug 304641] New: Composer should not have a simple shortcut to send out the e-mail.

2012-08-05 Thread Szymon Stefanek
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304641

Bug ID: 304641
  Severity: minor
   Version: 4.8.4
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: Composer should not have a simple shortcut to send out
the e-mail.
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: pra...@kvirc.net
  Hardware: Ubuntu Packages
Status: NEW
 Component: composer
   Product: kmail2

CTRL+Return is a combination of keys too easy to be hit by accident
(typing fast CTRL+V followed by Return, for example).
Sending an unfinished e-mail is an action that can't be reverted.

The shortcut for sending out the composed e-mail should be either
very hard to hit by accident (say ALT+Shift+SomeLetter)... or maybe
a confirmation dialog... or maybe even no shortcut at all...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Compose a new mail
2. Hit CTRL+Return by accident
Actual Results:
Unfinished mail is sent without confirmation

Expected Results:
The shortcut for sending out the composed e-mail should be either
very hard to hit by accident (say ALT+Shift+SomeLetter)... or maybe
a confirmation dialog... or maybe even no shortcut at all...

Another bit of information.
The Content-Type header is NOT broken by the spamc executable.
I have written a wrapper for it that saves the input and the output
on disk. In both I find the correct Content-Type.

A snippet from the filter log relevant to a message received with broken
Content-Type header. The [...] part that I have removed is a sequence of filter
rules identical to the previous ones (only From e-mail addresses change).

I have selected the message immediately after it appeared in the folder and the
contents were correct. Then the mail viewer automatically updated the contents
(as they were written to disk, I supposes) with the broken ones.

[Bug 293211] New: Accepting an invitation moves mail to trash

2012-02-03 Thread Szymon Stefanek
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293211

Summary: Accepting an invitation moves mail to trash
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.8
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: pra...@kvirc.net

Version: 4.8
OS:Linux

When I click Accept on an invitation the automatic reply is sent and the mail
disappears from the viewer in that it was currently open and from its folder.
It turns out that for some reason it's moved to the trash folder.

So I decided to move the message back manually from trash to the right folder.
After some time (minutes?) the original messages seems to have reappeared and
now I have two copies of the invitation in the original folder.

I suppose that it's some trick related to the invitation reply being sent and
the modification of the message body. But this behavior first suggests data
loss and then (when the lost mail is found) turns out to be very confusing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Click "Accept" on an invitation e-mail.

Actual Results:
Invitation moved to trash.
(Then reappears (?))

Expected Results:
Invitation in it's original folder.

I experience this problem in 4.7.90 (4.8 beta2).

If a mail just downloaded is moved by a filter to a different folder then there
is a good chance that it will re-appear again in the original folder at the
next update

It does not happen with all the accounts or all the filtered messages. However
if a message is affected then it's 100% reproduceable: it will be duplicated at
every folder update (forever?).

[Bug 289901] New: Conflict Resolution Dialog is hard to understand and to get rid of

2011-12-26 Thread Szymon Stefanek

Summary: Conflict Resolution Dialog is hard to understand and

   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.8

  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR

AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: pra...@kvirc.net

Version: 4.8 (using Devel)
OS:Linux

For a "common" user the conflict resolution dialog is senseless and rather
scary. I myself (not a newbie) have no clue on which modification should be
choosen each time and in fact I pick totally at random. In real non-developer
world conflicts should either be impossibile or be resolved automatically.

With large modifications (like apply all filters to a large set of messages)
the dialog may pop up several times: there should eventually be a "always pick
this choice and don't ask me again" option.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Apply a large set of filters to a large number of messages. Browse around while
the filtering agent is doing his job. Apply other filters, delete messages
etc... the conflict resolution dialog will eventually popup.

Actual Results:
Conflict Resolution Dialog appears.

Expected Results:
No conflict... or conflict automatically resolved.

This bug persists also in the 4.8 packages (kubuntu).
KMail doesn't show message contents at all: it just sits there with "Retrieving
folder contents". In akonadiconsole there is moderate traffic and
mysql+akonadi+resources are taking an average of 200% of CPU (two cores of a
quadcore system).

In general, the whole akonadi+mysqld+resources+kmail subsystem takes huge
amounts of CPU. For instance now I have:

 2397 ... 384m 138m 3088 S 118 ... mysqld
 3048 ... 405m 133m 10m R 99 ... akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource
 3060 ... 618m 185m 10m S 51 ... akonadi_nepomuk_email_feeder

Where 118+99+51 = 268% is the CPU usage (on a quad-core system) and
138+133+185=456 is the resident (non shared) memory usage.
And this is with nepomuk disabled (why the email feeder is running?).

This doesn't happen only when checking mail. It happens also when a random
folder is opened or even when kmail doesn't seem to do anything useful (or it's
not even running).

If I look at akonadiconsole while the CPU usage is high I see that there is a
very huge traffic between the components. Sometimes it seems to rescan some of
my folders.

--- Comment #29 from Szymon Stefanek 2011-12-12 06:46:41 ---
I've managed to view some of the emails by killing the mixedmail resource and
(re)starting it manually in the console several times.

>From this I've figured out that the mixedmail resource gets stuck on something.

Once I start it kmail shows the messages. Then I browse around the folders to
display random messages: after several clicks it starts slowing down and after
a few more it gets stuck totally. From that point on no more messages are
viewable
(even the ones that were visible before can't be viewed).

When the bug is triggered (that is kmail displays the "Retrieving Folder
Contents" message for the first time) the resource stays quiet for some seconds
and then spits out a lot of messages similar to this one:

akonadi_mixedmaildir_resource_1(8900)/akonadiresource (maildir)
RetrieveItemsJob::Private::fetchChangedResult: Store fetch for changed item
"1323661243.R144.spyro" in collection -869 , "" did not return the expected

"1323661243.R175.spyro" in collection -869 , "" did not return the expected
item. error= 102 , "Given folder name is empty"

>From that point the resource is stuck. The error messages from a previous mail
suggest that it doesn't answer at all to DBUS queries.

I haven't found a clear and systematic way to reproduce the issue.
Earlier I've reproduced it by opening a specific folder and clicking an email
inside it. But then after a restart the same action didn't trigger the problem.

However it might be something related to timing. In particular I can trigger it
very easily shortly after the akonadi server and mysql have been restarted.
This is possibly because the caches are empty and take time to be filled. After
I kill and restart the mixedmail resource several times, however, the bug hits
less and less until I can
browse all my folders and view all my messages.

Weird.

More digging into this.

When I try to browse the e-mail tree with akonadiconsole I can't access
the contents of the folders (which should belong to a mixedmail resource).
In the debugger window I see:

The mixedmail resource is running idle (i've attached a gdb session to it and
it seems to be sitting mainly inside poll()).

I also have this bug.

When I click on a message in a folder it isn't displayed at all.

Earlier some of the messages were displayed after a long time
(minutes) and I also had a "KMail Folders: Aborting" progress item
stuck at 0% which won't go away when the "minus" sign was clicked.
(See the attached screenshot).

After I restarted kontact+akonadi the situation got worse an
no message is displayed anymore.

It seems that akonadi is doing something in the background (no clue
what since I did nothing really special except checking mail recently).
In the output I see a lot of error similar to:

Unfortunately I no longer have the devel source tree set up so I can't test/fix
it directly. However the problems is exactly the one described in comment #5 by
Sergio. Filters and disconnected-UI jobs don't go together.

I agree that it's a bit messy. The key point for disconnected-UI was
performance. I'm not sure if this is still really needed as the Qt model-view
implementation has probably improved in the meantime. Some testing would be
needed.

However.

Disconnecting the UI means "not telling the model-view framework that single
items are being inserted" and later (when UI is reconnected) declaring
layoutChanged() at once. Filters, however, use QTreeView::setRowHidden() so the
view must be "aware" of the items being inside it.

Disconnected UI jobs are usually very short but they can still be interrupted:
inside Model::viewItemJobStepInternal() there is a path that returns control to
the event loop with mModelForItemFunctions left to 0.

Two possible solutions:

- If a filter has to be applied when a disconnected UI job is running,
reconnect the UI (and remove the disconnected-UI flag from the job). This means
moving the UI reconnection code from Model::viewItemJobStepInternal() to its
own function and calling it in two places.

- Reconnect the UI as soon as a job with disconnected UI is interrupted (or
finishes, as it is now). This is simpler as it can be done entirely inside
Model::viewItemJobStepInternal() but it possibly reduces the performance a bit
(?).

SVN commit 1142448 by stefanek:

When a rowsRemoved() signal is received in the middle
of a fill job, and the removed rows cover the job entirely
don't delete the job but make it skip directly to pass 2.
Fixes some crashes related to dangling pointers left
in this particular case.

SVN commit 980061 by stefanek:

Possibly fix the issues with the folder being closed by
the compaction jobs (and thus various asserts triggering
in the StorageModel code).

Not totally sure that all the bugs I'm closing had exactly
the same cause (though the backtrace is exactly the same).
If you still can reproduce the bug please reopen ONE of
these.

[Bug 174839] kmail crashes while deleting single selected mails

2009-03-09 Thread Szymon Stefanek
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=174839

--- Comment #22 from Szymon Stefanek 2009-03-09 18:42:08 ---
I guess there has been some confusion on the fix of this bug.

The (real) fix has been committed to trunk on 3.3.2009 (rev 934415). It has
been backported to the 4.2 branch on 4.3.2009 (rev 935089).

The line nubmers reported in the backtrace don't seem to belong to current
trunk (for instance, line 3788 does NOT contain a call to qFatal()).

Specifically your line numbers seem to relate to revision 934328 which is
before 934415.

Is this the latest KDE svn trunk ?

If it is then the bug should be reopened.
If it isn't then the bug should stay closed :)

The "Installed: (none)" thing looks like an apt related problem.
You should ask on an ubuntu-specific forum.

[Bug 174839] kmail crashes while deleting single selected mails

2009-03-02 Thread Szymon Stefanek

--- Comment #14 from Szymon Stefanek 2009-03-03 02:09:11 ---
SVN commit 934415 by stefanek:

Possibly really fix the message deletion Q_ASSERT() bug.
Theory says that the assert shouldn't be possible and I
really want to enforce this (since if I don't, I'll start
loosing control over what happens).

It turns out that deleting at least three levels
of messages at once *could* lead to the assert to be
triggered when the deletes happened in a particular order.
Now it shouldn't be possible anymore.
