[kmail2] [Bug 350219] Kmail can't create IMAP top level folders

2015-09-11 Thread Timothy Murphy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350219

--- Comment #5 from Timothy Murphy <gayle...@eircom.net> ---
I don't understand why the same bug was marked as FIXED, and now a new bug
report has been opened concerning exactly the same problem.
The statement that the bug was FIXED is manifestly false, since there are
reports virtually every month since January 2012 confirming the problem.
Also if the problem cannot be solved, the akonadi console workaround should be
made available to KMail users, eg by adding it to the KMail Handbook.

2015-09-10 Thread Timothy Murphy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=292418

--- Comment #52 from Timothy Murphy <gayle...@eircom.net> ---
I agree emphatically.
Who is able to change the status of this bug to or from FIXED?
Whoever that is apparently never reads bug reports.
How old is this bug? I see from comment 1 in January 2012 that it was already
old hat then.
Why is the bug so difficult to remedy? Since it can be got around by going to
akonadi console it cannot be beyond human ingenuity.

2015-06-01 Thread Timothy Murphy

On Monday 01 June 2015 22:27:25 you wrote:

I can create a top level folder through Akonadi console but not through
 Kmail.

How does one do that, as a matter of interest?

Actually, the last time I tried to create a top-level folder
with KMail on my Fedora-21 laptop I was able to.
That was a few weeks ago,
with dovecot running on a Centos-7 server

Before CentOS-7 came out I was able to do this on the server,
with KMail, but KMail does not seem to run under CentOS-7.
It would be useful to know how to do it with Akonadi.

I don't understand why this bug is described as RESOLVED, FIXED, since it
seems to me to be in the same unfixed state that it has been in for at least 2
years.
Neither of the 2 solutions suggested - using kio IMAP and throug akonadi

2013-08-12 Thread Timothy Murphy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=292418

--- Comment #33 from Timothy Murphy gayle...@eircom.net ---
No thank you.
I am running Fedora-19/KDE on my laptop rose,
and CentOS-6.4 on my server alfred.
I am running a dovecot/IMAP server on alfred,
with email coming from various sources.

I find that now I can create a top-level KMail folder on alfred,
which is visible on rose (after re-booting).
This fulfils all my needs.

However, there are problems trying to create
a top-level KMail folder on my laptop.
I am apparently allowed to do this,
and if I do the folder is visible on my server,
but not on my laptop.
I receive repeated messages on my laptop
that it is unable to create a resource.
I have to delete the new folder on my server
to stop these messages.

However, as I said this is not a problem for me,
as there is a viable alternative.

I'm still having what I assume is the same problem with KMail: 4.10.4
I'm running KMail on my Fedora-19/KDE laptop,
collecting email from a dovecot server on a CentOS-6.4 machine.
When I try to create a top-level folder Spam on my laptop
I get the message from the server (ie dovecot machine)
alfred: Could not create collection Spam:resourceId: 13
I see that a maildir folder ~/Maildir/.Spam/[cur,new,tmp]
is actually created on the server,
but it is not visible on the laptop KMail menu.
If I right-click on the account alfred on the laptop
and choose Serverside subscriptions
I do see the folder Spam listed, and ticked.
The new folder is visible with KMail on the server,
and I am able to transfer email to the folder in KMail
(always running on the server).
So the only problems are
(1) the folder is not visible on the laptop in KMail
(2) I get regular messages on my laptop as stated above
alfred: Could not create collection Spam:resourceId: 13

I was slightly in error in the above comment.
The message
alfred: Could not create collection Spam:resourceId: 13
did not come from my server (alfred) but from my laptop;
the alfred in the message referred to the KMail account name
and resulting resource name.

[Bug 308440] New: I cannot see contacts in Search window or in KMail

2012-10-15 Thread Timothy Murphy

Bug ID: 308440
  Severity: normal
   Version: 4.9
  Priority: NOR

  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: I cannot see contacts in Search window or in KMail
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: gayle...@eircom.net
  Hardware: Fedora RPMs
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: general
   Product: kaddressbook

I open Kaddressbook from KMail=Tools.
I have a number of contacts saved in Kaddressbook, as seen if I export the
contacts in CSV format.
But 1. I don't see anything if I enter one of the contact names in the Search
window at the top of the Kaddressbook page; and
2. I don't see any of the addresses listed in Kmail=New, if I enter some or
all of the name in the To window.
In other words, Kaddressbook appears to be completely non-functional.

According to System Settings=Desktop Search, Nepomuk Semantic Desktop and
Nepomuk File Indexer are both enabled.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to KMail=Tools=Address Book
2. Type contact name in Search window
or
1. Go to KMail=New
2. Enter part of name in To space
Actual Results:
Nothing appears in either case

Expected Results:
In both cases, I expect the contact name to appear

I have the same problem with Fedora-16 (kdepim-4.8.2-1.fc16.i686).
This makes the group facility completely useless.
I note that when a contact is added to a group, the entry in
~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/distlists
is modified by the addition of a cipher;
but this cipher is not the same as the contact UID.

OK, I've taken the action you suggested, namely to install KDE 4.8. but it did
not have the slightest effect on the issue I raised.
(I'm running Fedora-16, and upgraded from Rex Dieter's fedora-kde48.repo.)

So may I ask you in return if you would mind reading my original query, and
letting me know, (a) If KMail=Tools=Find Messages is meant to work in the way
I supposed, and (b) If it does work in this way for you.

To save you time, these were my original queries:
-
As I recall, KMail=Tools=Find Messages
used to search through the currently opened folder (eg Inbox)

Now it seems to search through all folders,
which in my case means tens of thousands of emails.

Also, it says at the bottom 0 matches in Last Search
even though it has found dozens of matches.

Also, most of the searches (eg From) do not seem to work properly.

I don't know what you mean by nepomuk working;
nepomuk_server is running, as well as 7 other nepomuk services
and 3 akonadi_nepomuk services.

Incidentally, if KMail2 depends on Nepomuk working,
wouldn't it be better for KMail2 to check that,
and tell the user if it is not working?

Does KMail=Tools=Find Messages work well for you?
Can you search through a single folder?
Does it report 0 matches in Last Search after the search?

   Version: 1.11.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: gayle...@eircom.net

Version: 1.11.3 (using KDE 4.2.3)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Fedora RPMs

I'm running a dovecot/IMAP server under CentOS-5.3 on my desktop,
reading the mail with KMail on my laptop.

I have what seems a venerable and well-documented problem/bug;
when I click on Check Mail I get an error message
Error while getting folder information ...
Actually, this doesn't appear to have the slightest effect
on kmail, which works perfectly if one just presses Continue.

But I have worked out that the cause of the problem
is that there exists a kind of ghost folder, uidvalidity,
which is listed among the folders on the kmail page
but does not in fact seem to exist in my maildir on the server.

Deleting the folder under kmail has no permanent effect;
it simply re-appears when I re-start kmail.

This bug/feature seems to have been present for years,
which I suppose is par for KDE.
To make it as difficult as possible to diagnose,
the error message on the kmail page is incomplete,
even when expanded to the whole screen.
In particular it does not specify (on the visible part)
what folder is causing the problem.
Nor is the error listed with other dovecot information
in /var/log/messages .
