accepting a certificate from our hosting company - we don't use our own
certificate, and kontact has trouble believing we really intend to trust it.

[Bug 288816] After configuring Kmail - using Gmail.Error pop-up at the Rt.Lower corner stating Google mail :Unknown error - unable to append item flags.

--- Comment #6 from  bosyber hotmail com  2012-01-02 09:19:49 ---
Steve's workaround led me to look at my akonadiserver configuration again too.
Apparently my backup hadn't added the right config files, so I returned them to
the correct config file ~/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc:

[%General]
Driver=QMYSQL

[QMYSQL]
Name=akonadi
Host=localhost
Options=MYSQL_OPT_RECONNECT=1
ServerPath=/usr/sbin/mysqld
StartServer=false
snip username,password

This cured the issue for me.

However, given comment #5 by Steve, it might just be due to changing the
configuration.

That's especially as he uses a default setting while I use the already running
mysqld (the OPT_RECONNECT=1 to avoid errors with timouts) on my system now.

I tried returning to the previous configuration, but now my gmail imap folders
are up to date, so the error doesn't return. I'd have to remove the current db,
at least, but I don't have time to do that today.

I have the same problem - KDE 4.7.4 from the kubuntu ppa, with Kontact 4.7.3.

I have now set Kontact to log errors when retrieving mail to a file, hopefully
that will give some more useful messages (or even a clear response kontact gets
from the gmail imap server on what is failing?). Is there another way to get
these messages to be a bit more verbose and useful for debugging? I have
kdepim-dbg installed.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

akonadi_imap_resource (4.7) on KDE Platform 4.7.4 (4.7.4) using Qt 4.7.4

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
waiting for kmail to update my LogistiQ IMAP mail, I click on accept
cetificate forever (does it never take hold?), crash.

- Custom settings of the application:
The certificate is from banan.cz; my email is found at imap.logist-iq.eu. But
that's a site hosted by banan.cz (including email), without a separate
certificate as of yet, and thus akonadi justly asks if it should be trusted,
but it seems to fail to
accept to do that permanently.

I also encountered this problem, with an an external to akonadi mysql (my
ubuntu 11.10 had issues with starting the akondi-mysql as admin root, and I
have myqsl running anyway).

The workaround Mark Gannon mentions in comment #7 works for me.

I do have a question: why is it, for an external mysql, not a very good final
solution? The timeout is there so that connections don't remain spuriously
open; in my view, when nothing is using a db-connection/Anakonda, it should
just stop and reconnect when activity starts again. Am I misunderstanding
something?
