1) are you using a remote IMAP or a local mail dir?
2) what do you mean with a lot? 100, 1000, 1, 10... ?

P.S: I've just moved about 2000 emails on a remote IMAP folder, it needs some
time, but kmail (from KDE 4 trunk) doesn't freeze :-)
