I removed the duplicates, that seemed to work. Using akonadi means slow startup. I still gets duplicated entries for my distribution lists (which was lost in the migration process, so I had to recreate them). Is it because I have two addressbook resources? (Hm, I could try adding one more, and see if I get tripled distlists :p). Initially, I could not create distlists using akonadi resources. I was asked to select a "destination folder" from an empty list. So I thought that I could move all the people in my list to the same resource, as a work around. Kaddressbook does btw not provide any obvious way to do that. Cutting and pasting the contact will work, though. After moving one contact to another resourse, all members of the list (minus the newly moved contact) was displayed. I readded the moved contact, and restarted kontact to see if magic saved me from moving/readding everybody. But no, after restart only people in one resource was displayed (I wonder how that resource is selected - maybe the one containing the first list member?) But at least this will save me for now. I just hope that the arkonadi-based version of kaddressbook will make this issue go away. (And what about a better UI for creating distribution lists? No, my list was not saved.
