I had some other issues with that version as well, probably it was connected. I could swipe only "a couple of times" (maybe 1-8x) and reproduce the behaviour, but not always after X swipings. I tested swiping between 5 messages wiping backward and forward several times and then swiping backward and forward randomly between the 5 messages. Also did not know of that feature (i tested with previous releases though and it did not work). The feature itself could be improved (hint that its possible, animation, some sort of orientation (e.g. "<- mail 5 / 100 ->" ... etc).
