Random hangs and pauses after pressing add/remove/modify buttons but it did do it in the end. Ghosts are gone. Bulk operations (mark read / delete) that used to almost always causes ghosts now seem OK. It was sort of a pain, but I haven't seen the 'ghost' messages since. I think the problem is when the transfer from kmail -> kmail2. I am guessing the migration doesn't work as well as expected. In any case, In my experience just recreating your accounts should fix things. I can't use a mail client that is unable to delete messages.
