[kmail] [Bug 116212] KMail composer doesn't let the user select which account to send the email from

Created attachment 169789

identity versus from

The "identity" drop down is an actual selection of what email you want to send
from.

The "From" is just a input box you would need to type.

This doesn't make sense.

The drop down for identities takes up the same space as a single input slot so
what you are saying doesn't make sense to me.

Again, this is your point of view. Most users only have one identity set up and
showing this dropdown menu by default would waste space for them.

What is missing however is the selection of aliases addresses when they exist.
This is already reported (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400851)

Can we please address the fact that when writing a new email a new user using
Kmail won't be able to see which email they can use to send an email with.

It is normal in pretty much every single email client I have ever used that you
have a drop down.

Kmail does in fact have this "identity" drop down you just have to enable it.

Currently it has a input box rather than a drop down.

All I am saying is switch it around and people would be far less confused.

This is for sure a usability bug at the very least.

I don't see any need to reopen a 18 years old bug because kmail doesn't work
the way *you* want.

It seems like Kmail has so many things like this. It has the actual
functionality in it, but it is just kinda strange how it does things and not
very intuitive.

The "from" input should just be the "identity" drop down. Do people usually
just write whatever from email they want? I don't think I have ever needed to
do that.
