That doesn't actually change the Fedora config, and it removes the need for
you to add the config disables in RHEL so it's the most straight forward thing
TBH

Maybe say something like "Clean up EM28XX options that are masked behind
EM28XX"

I'm not sure what this actually fixes, they're disabled in RHEL because the
root device is disabled. I'm guessing you're trying to clean up because
they're set in common because Fedora enables the base driver. The more correct
fix here would be "git mv common/generic/CONFIG_VIDEO_EM28XX_* fedora/generic/
" which I suspect will achieve the cleanup you desire

[OS-BUILD PATCH] rhel: disable DELL_RBU and cleanup related deps

2024-10-22 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)
From: Peter Robinson

rhel: disable DELL_RBU and cleanup related deps

Disable DELL_RBU on RHEL, it already is on Fedora, and also
FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER as only it and LEDS_LP55XX_COMMON, which
nothing enables, uses the FW user help interface. The Dell
Remote BIOS Update dates back to HW from 20 odd years ago.

[OS-BUILD PATCHv4 5/5] generic: enable RPMB for all configs that enable MMC

2024-10-22 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)
From: Peter Robinson

generic: enable RPMB for all configs that enable MMC

The RPMB (Replay Protected Memory Block) is part of a number of
storage technologies (eMMC/UFS/NVME), this was previously part
of the eMMC stack and has now been split out but is potentially
already in use by users of eMMC which is supported on all OSes.

[OS-BUILD PATCHv4 2/5] fedora: aarch64: Stop overriding CONFIG_MMC defaults

2024-10-22 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)
From: Peter Robinson

fedora: aarch64: Stop overriding CONFIG_MMC defaults

Going back a long time we used to build in MMC for arm,
we stopped this for block some time ago but somehow the
base MMC was missed, move to the defaults as it should be.

part of the MMC stack, it's been split out to a different subsystem because
it's also used on NVME/UFS

You should be able to run `make dist-configs-check` to check the config and
you should diff prior configs to ensure you end up with the changes you expect
rather than just disabling things.

[OS-BUILD PATCH 0/0] redhat/kernel.spec.template: Fix cross compiling

The scripts_gdb build option is arch specific so we need to specify
that as part of the make command else we break cross compiling the
kernel.

Re: [OS-BUILD PATCH] [redhat] configs: Disable CONFIG_XFS_SUPPORT_V4

I think it should be fine, I think we should at least get something into
release notes so people are aware, we can always turn it back on if there are
complaints.

I think my big request is primarily documentation :)

To partially answer my own question it seems v5 became default with xfsprogs
4.9 which landed in Fedora 26 in 2017.

When was this last default for XFS filesystem creation? How will users know if
they're affected? How can they upgrade/migrate to a newer version of XFS?

[OS-BUILD PATCHv12 0/0] all: cleanup a bunch of configs

2024-01-07 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)

This cleans up a bunch of removed configs as well as configs
that are now appropriately gated behind other options. There
is no functional change from this.

[OS-BUILD PATCHv5 0/0] all: cleanup a bunch of configs

2024-01-01 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)
From: pbrobinson on gitlab.com
Merge Request: https://gitlab.com/cki-project/kernel-ark/-/merge_requests/2840
NOTE: Truncated patchset due to missing public @redhat.com email
address on your GitLab profile at https://gitlab.com/-/profile.
Once that is fixed, close and reopen the merge request to
  retrigger sending the emails.

This cleans up a bunch of removed configs as well as configs
that are now appropriately gated behind other options. There
is no functional change from this.

[OS-BUILD PATCH 0/0] General cleanups

2023-08-25 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)
From: pbrobinson on gitlab.com
Merge Request: https://gitlab.com/cki-project/kernel-ark/-/merge_requests/2652
NOTE: Truncated patchset due to missing public @redhat.com email
address on your GitLab profile at https://gitlab.com/-/profile.
Once that is fixed, close and reopen the merge request to
  retrigger sending the emails.

This is a clean up of various config options. There's no actual change in
kernel build although in some cases some disabled options disappear from the
configs altogether as they don't actually get enabled on those arches.

than investigating and fixing it properly. You stated it was disabled because

That is because by default if there's no default specified for the Kconfig
it's default=n and with common/generic/CONFIG_HSA_AMD_SVM =y which has a
"depends on: CONFIG_HSA_AMD && CONFIG_DEVICE_PRIVATE" it will turn it on which
is the oppose of what the config states because it's undefined. If you "sed -i
's/# CONFIG_DEVICE_PRIVATE is not set/CONFIG_DEVICE_PRIVATE=y/g'
redhat/configs/common/generic/arm/aarch64/CONFIG_DEVICE_PRIVATE" like Fedora's
aarch64 or common x86/powerpc you will find that it works just fine.

[OS-BUILD PATCH 0/0] fedora: bluetooth: enable AOSP extensions

2023-07-10 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)

NOTE: Truncated patchset due to missing public @redhat.com email

The ASOP has some bluetooth extensions that some devices
support so it's useful to have it on in Fedora just like
the MS extensions we already enable.

[OS-BUILD PATCH 0/0] common: properly disable PCCARD subsystem

RHEL, and all Fedora except x86 already disables PCMCIA, all
these options are actually wrapped in the PCCARD option and
that is still enabled so disable that too so it gets all options.

[OS-BUILD PATCH 0/0] fedora: wifi: Cleanups of the final WEXT based drivers

2023-04-20 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)

NOTE: Truncated patchset due to missing public @redhat.com email
address on your GitLab profile at https://gitlab.com/-/profile.
Once that is fixed, close and reopen the merge request to

We retired the userspace wireless extensions, and in theory the kernel
interfaces, in Fedora 36 but there was one driver that people actively used
(the r8188eu in staging) but the rtl8xxxu driver now has support for all those
devices and in 6.3 that staging driver was removed from upstream. We can now
properly remove WEXT in the Fedora kernel. This is some minor cleanups and in
reality we only lose the ancient 802.11b hermes drivers which are unlikely to
be used by Fedora users now PowerMac and 32 bit x86 is long gone.

[OS-BUILD PATCHv2 0/0] fedora: enable STACKPROTECTOR on arm platforms

It's enabled on all other Fedora architectures and there's
no reason arm architectures should be any different here.
It was likely an oversight. Minor config cleanup while at it.

[OS-BUILD PATCH 0/0] fedora: enable STACKPROTECTOR on arm platforms

2023-01-25 Thread pbrobinson (via Email Bridge)
From: pbrobinson on gitlab.com
Merge Request: https://gitlab.com/cki-project/kernel-ark/-/merge_requests/2268
NOTE: Truncated patchset due to missing public @redhat.com email
address on your GitLab profile at https://gitlab.com/-/profile.
Once that is fixed, close and reopen the merge request to
  retrigger sending the emails.

It's enabled on all other Fedora architectures and there's
no reason arm architectures should be any different here.
It was likely an oversight. Minor config cleanup while at it.
