[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1186569] Re: Imon LCD device number changes each boot
So this used to (At least as recently as 12.04) stably sit on /dev/lcd0, and now, as this bug indicates, it seems to pick randomly between /dev/lcd0 and /dev/lcd2. Is the kernel responsible for that? lcdproc is a pretty simple, and rather unmaintained program. Getting it to automatically detect which device is on what dev node seems rather out of its scope, particularly when I only have one lcd device, as I imagine most people with an lcd device do. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]
I was able to build and install the driver Xprogrammer found, but it does not work for me at all. It can get an address via DHCP but after that I can't even ping the default gateway. There were several warnings produced during the build, lots of dmesg output, and a stack dump triggered in net/mac80211/rate.c:518 (a comment in rate.c indicates "RC is busted". I can send along all of that if it's useful to anyone, but unless you have access to hardware documentation I doubt you'll be able to fix the driver. Based on the volume of the dmesg output, it appears to be an internal or alpha driver that escaped rather than something that's intended for production. I will contact the driver authors to see if they have a newer version (the version Xprogrammer found dates from October 22). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1239578 Title: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b] Status in HWE Next Project: Incomplete Status in HWE Next trusty series: Confirmed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Open this bug to trace device driver RTL8192EE. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1185927] Re: 8086:0046 [Dell XPS 15 L501x] Unable to change backlight by default
I'm experiencing the same behavior as above. I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 and the 3.13 mainline kernel. I was able to find a workaround that let me control the backlight brightness through the applet. Create /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf with the following: Section "Device" Identifier "HD 4000" Driver "Intel" Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight" EndSection However, the brightness keys are still broken. I am able to change the brightness with them, but it will only go down to about 90%. I suspect this has something to do with the dell_backlight having max_brightness 15 and the intel_backlight having max_brightness ~4600. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1185927 Title: 8086:0046 [Dell XPS 15 L501x] Unable to change backlight by default Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: While I disabled my nvidia card in BIOS, I am unable to change the backlight by default. WORKAROUND: Use both kernel parameters: acpi_backlight=vendor dell_laptop.backlight=0 Having just 'acpi_backlight=vendor' means that if I quickly and repeatedly press the key to change brightness, it eventually lowers, but sometimes the down key makes it higher and visa versa, making it difficult to change. Adding 'dell_laptop.backlight=0' makes the controls work perfectly normally. But when I boot, I get the message: dell_laptop: '0' invalid parameter for 'backlight', at which my computer then continues to boot and works normally, with the brightness control working. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1227833] Re: No Driver - SIIG USB 2.0 to VGA Pro
In Ubuntu 14.04 (alpha), I'm now able to achieve these resolutions: 1440 x 900 - Laptop's Native Monitor 1920 x 1080 - Laptop's HDMI Port's External Monitor 1024 x 768 - SIIG USB 2.0 to VGA Pro Monitor If I go any higher with the SIIG, it will corrupt one of the other monitors ability to display correctly and trying higher resolutions crashes unity-control-center freezing my desktop. This happens AFTER telling it to restore the previous settings. Another issue I'm having is mouse flickering: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-control-center/+bug/1278223 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1227833 Title: No Driver - SIIG USB 2.0 to VGA Pro Status in The Linux Kernel: Unknown Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: My laptop is a Dell Studio 1737/0P792H, BIOS A09 04/14/2011. With the goal of extending my laptop to support two external monitors (instead of one), today I purchased a USB to VGA adapter: SIIG USB 2.0 to VGA PRO (JU-VG0012-S1) http://www.siig.com/usb-2-0-to-vga-pro.html This USB VGA adapter doesn't seem to work at all. Right now, it is plugged into a monitor that is powered on and I have the USB cable connected to both the device and my laptop, but the Laptop is acting like the device isn't there and Ubuntu's Display-Setting-Confg-Utility is unable to detect the external monitor. This issue persists reboots. A Little Background (reason for purchasing): You'd think this laptop alone would already support two monitors, because it has both HDMI and VGA ports. However, I've confirmed that its built-in video card (and driver) only have the ability to display to one of these ports at a time; they're mutually exclusive. Ubuntu's Display settings utility does show the two monitors when I have both ports plugged up, but any attempts to display, to both, fails with a dialogs that weirdly flows down my screen while Ubuntu tries to automatically attempt to make it work at numerous resolutions. This is why I purchased the SIIG USB 2.0 to VGA Pro. I thought it would have its own little video card built-in, and give me what my laptop's own video card lacked. I realize that USB will be slower, but that's not a concern for the simple business application that I intend to display on a 3rd monitor. Helpful bug reporting tips: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102318 Title: Slow system after resume from suspend Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Hello, For quite some time I've been experiencing problems with Ubuntu after resume from suspend. I have an Asus M70SR notebook with ATI Radeon Mobility HD3470 and using the open-source driver for it (from Quantal official repository). Currently I have Ubuntu 12.10 installed, but the same was happening before with 12.04. It doesn't matter if I use Unity, Gnome-Shell or Gnome Classic - the slow down is always there. My /etc/X11/xorg-conf looks like this: Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Radeon 3470HD" Driver "ati" Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" Option "AccelDFS" "true" Option "EnablePageFlip" "true" Option "SwapbuffersWait" "off" Option "ColorTiling" "on" Option "ColorTiling2D" "on" EndSection To give you some picture about it: Glxgears BEFORE suspend: ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment. ATTENTION: option value of option vblank_mode ignored. 4007 frames in 5.0 seconds = 801.315 FPS 3867 frames in 5.0 seconds = 773.359 FPS 3918 frames in 5.0 seconds = 782.475 FPS 3879 frames in 5.0 seconds = 774.902 FPS 3859 frames in 5.0 seconds = 771.025 FPS Glxgears AFTER resume from suspend: ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment. ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment. The workaround is to kill the X server (Ctrl-Alt- Backspace) and login again, the problem is gone then. However, it's quite annoying to have to close all open apps and then reopen them again. As you can see, I use vblank_mode=0 option and in Compiz the Vsync is turned off. The measuring was done from Gnome Classic session, but I can experience the same slowdown in Unity and in Gnome Shell as well. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 525959] Re: 093a:2460 Webcam (Pixart PAC207BCA) - inverted LED logic
Yuri Glushkov, would you need a backport to a release prior to Trusty, or may this be closed as Status Invalid? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525959 Title: 093a:2460 Webcam (Pixart PAC207BCA) - inverted LED logic Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi all, Problem: The LED on this webcam is always turned on when connected to USB, unless some application uses it - the behavior that is opposite to what is expected. It was tested on Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit, kernel 2.6.31-19-generic. lsusb shows the webcam information as follows: ID 093a:2460 Pixart Imaging, Inc. Q-TEC WEBCAM 100 Suggested solution: The driver for this camera is gspca_pac207 (located at /lib/modules/2.6.31-19-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video/gspca). In the driver source file pac207.c it can be seen that the bit 1 of the register at 0x41 controls the LED. Looks like it was assumed that '0' at this bit turns the light off, when actually '1' does that. After I've changed the value of this register to the opposite, the re-compiled driver works correctly and the LED is on only when the camera is in use. I've attached the modified pac207.c. The diff of the changed file vs. original is below: 272c272 change: pac207_write_reg(gspca_dev, 0x41, 0x00); to: pac207_write_reg(gspca_dev, 0x41, 0x02); 308c308 change: mode = 0x02; /* Image Format (Bit 0), LED (1), Compr. test mode (2) */ to: mode = 0x00; /* Image Format (Bit 0), LED (1), Compr. test mode (2) */ 331c331 change: pac207_write_reg(gspca_dev, 0x41, 0x00); /* Turn of LED */ to: pac207_write_reg(gspca_dev, 0x41, 0x02); /* Turn off LED */ AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1273652] Re: "apply" of multi-monitor setting results in crash
I'm having the same problem too. This is recent, so I suspected an update may be the culprit. I have tried reverting to a previous version of nvidia driver, but that made no difference. Error message is substantially the same- ERROR: Error querying target relations The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'. (Details: serial 82 error_code 1 request_code 154 minor_code 29) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273652 Title: "apply" of multi-monitor setting results in crash Status in “nvidia-settings” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After the recent update of nvidia settings, I am not able to apply new monitor setting via nvidia settings anymore. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1270084] Re: Buttons are displayed incorrectly
** Changed in: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1270084 Title: Buttons are displayed incorrectly Status in “nvidia-settings” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 dev with nvidia-settings 331.20-0ubuntu7 and as seen in this screenshot (http://img4.picload.org/image/lgdpawp/2014_01_04_02_37.png) the 2 buttons "Save Changes"/Reload and "Update Rule"/Cancel are looking if they were merged. Basically the "Save Changes"/Reload buttons are the same as "Add Rule", "Delete Rule", etc. but with the difference that their background layer isn't horizontally stretched as above. So there are 3 possible solutions: Either the buttons should be the same like Help/Quit, the background layer could be stretched or simply all the these background layers could be removed (as they are even currently not shown in many themes - maybe they were simply an accident). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1275794]
I tried Agner's train delay patch (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=92883) with the recent linux-3.13.2 and had partial success with a HDMI connection. My rig includes T440s with a ThinkPad Ultra Dock. As noted by others, the display is not instantly turned on; it takes about ~30 seconds to light up. I say partial success because the display now has patterns with green dots all over. See the attached picture I took with my camera (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=93654). I green overlay is also present with Pichler's patch (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=91164), but I only observed it once. I observed the following in dmesg: root@iris:/home/totakura# dmesg | grep drm [ 17.327337] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810 [ 17.566302] [drm] Memory usable by graphics device = 2048M [ 17.607126] [drm] Supports vblank timestamp caching Rev 2 (21.10.2013). [ 1216.132500] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it. I could not get the GPU crash dump which is show in the dmesg as I rebooted immediately. Sorry :( Next, I combined Agner's (92882) and Pichler's(91164) patches into one (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=93653). With this patch, I was able to boot up while docked. The transition from GRUB to FB took a while but after that the external display is identical to that on the notebook display. Consequently, I was able to suspend/shutdown while docked. While waking up from suspend there is also a delay during which the system freezes, but its short. With this patch I do not see the DRM warning in dmesg anymore. This is the output now: totakura@iris:~$ dmesg | grep drm [ 19.758646] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810 [ 20.152088] [drm] Memory usable by graphics device = 2048M [ 20.192418] [drm] Supports vblank timestamp caching Rev 2 (21.10.2013). [ 20.192419] [drm] Driver supports precise vblank timestamp query. This display simply replicated the HDMI display. This should not be the case here as from the dock's manual, I should be able to drive three displays, of which one should be connected to the VGA port. I also observed that even though I connected to the HDMI port, the xrandr output still lists the external display under DP2 while showing HDMI2 as disconnected. I do not know if this is a bug or not. Here is the output: totakura@iris:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767 eDP1 connected 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 309mm x 175mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 59.9 1680x1050 60.0 59.9 1600x1024 60.2 1400x1050 60.0 1280x1024 60.0 1440x900 59.9 1280x960 60.0 1360x768 59.8 60.0 1152x864 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 56.2 640x48059.9 DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP2 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 598mm x 336mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 50.0 59.9 1920x1080i 60.1 50.0 60.0 1680x1050 60.0 1280x1024 75.0 60.0 1440x900 59.9 1280x960 60.0 1280x800 59.8 1152x864 75.0 1280x720 60.0 50.0 59.9 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x62474.6 800x60072.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 720x57650

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1186569] Re: Imon LCD device number changes each boot
Preferably lxcproc should stop using hardcoded names and detect devices it wants to talk to by their subsystem and properties. If it wants to it could ship some udev rules to help with identification or creating symlinks; but symlinks aren't supposed to help programs find devices, they are mostly a "human readable" thing. Thus wontfix in udev itself. ** Changed in: udev (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1186569 Title: Imon LCD device number changes each boot Status in “lcdproc” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “udev” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: LCD display does not output anything, only back light works. sudo LCDd -f -r 4 gives follow output: Server running in foreground Listening for queries on 127.0.0.1:13666 imonlcd: using Device /dev/lcd0 imonlcd: ERROR opening /dev/lcd0 (No such file or directory). imonlcd: Did you load the iMON kernel module? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1275116] Re: lowlatency-flavour crashes and locks up alot
Ubuntu is installed with lowlatency kernel and seems to work properly. I will tell you if something happens. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275116 Title: lowlatency-flavour crashes and locks up alot Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The 3.11 flavour that where upgraded to 3.13 today crashed 10 times this morning. I have the crashdums, but I figured that it might have been solved in 3.13. Unfortunatly it seems like it is not. I will add crashdumps when I get crashes that do not just lockup the machine but currently I have only seem complete lockups with 3.13 So the essense is : 3.11-lowlatency crashed 10 time today most of the crashes reached the console so I could see the panic text. 3.13-lowlatency crash 1 time 10 minuttes after first boot. No VT swtich. During next reboot it also locked.
