[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1193639] Re: [Fujitsu Siemens Amilo a1650g] randomly freeze of sysem during use a battery
regards I suspect I have a very similar problem. have Lubuntu 14.04 x64 installed on a Amilo A1650G and experience regular full freeze of the system. running with power suply or battery makes no difference. the freeze always takes place between 10 and 30 minutes. the whole system is paralyzed. open a virtual console does not work. REISUB also does not work. need to shut down per power button. have installed the linux-crashdump package but need further instructions. which informations / files you need? is /var/crash/_usr_bin_lxsession.1000.crash the right one? i'm total beginner but ready to learn and follow every order. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1425803] Re: Driver problem with USB chipset VIA VL812-B2
In scouring the internet I have found references to similar matter with bsd. Seems maybe the xhci driver folks maybe haven't quite got around to supporting non-root USB 3.0 hubs. http://netbsd.2816.n7.nabble.com/Help-USB-3-0-xHCI-driver-does-not-support-non-root-hub-td308329.html -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425803 Title: Driver problem with USB chipset VIA VL812-B2 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Presuming the system info you need is in the automatically generated collection from ubuntu-bug. Ubuntu 14.10, fully updated. Kernel 3.16.0-31-generic. The problem described also exists in earlier kernels although I cannot say when it first appeared. I have a HooToo HT-UH005 4-Port USB 3.0 hub (VIA VL812-B2 chipset) . I'm using it with a HP Pavilion 17-e049wm laptop. This computer has two USB 3.0 ports. When the computer is quiescent the CPU consumed is normally 0% to 1%. That's the same whether there are USB 2.0 or 3.0 devices plugged into its onboard USB 3.0 ports, or not. As soon as I plug the HT-UH005 hub into one of those USB 3.0 ports, a system process khubd appears and it takes about 7% of CPU. Also, several "kworker" and "ksoftirqd" threads appear which between them consume another 18% of CPU, for a total of 25% CPU load. That's just because the HT-UH005 was plugged in. No peripherals attached to the HT-UH005. Stranger still, when I unplug the HT-UH005 the khubd, kworker, and ksoftirqd threads *continue* to consume 25% CPU. That's with the HT- UH005 disconnected after it was previously connected. This goes on indefinitely. The only way I can get things back to normal is to reboot or to manually stop and restart (unbind and then bind) the xhci_hcd driver that's servicing the internal hub that runs the computer's two USB 3.0 ports. The listing from dmesg shows no apparent problems when the HT-UH005 is connected or disconnected. Listing from lsusb shows the HT-UH005 successfully connected to a port on the internal USB 3.0 hub using driver xhci_hcd. This could be caused by some sort of incompatibility between the AMD internal hub and the VIA external hub. But, that the condition persists after the HT- UH005 is disconnected suggests it is almost surely a linux driver problem. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1425803] Re: Driver problem with USB chipset VIA VL812-B2
This bug occurs with more than just one chipset. For chuckles I picked up a 7-port USB 3.0 hub that uses GenesysLogic 3520 (maybe 3521) chipsets. *SAME PROBLEM*. I can confirm that this problem occurs with more than just the VIA VL812-B2 chipset. How many different chipsets, who knows. The VIA and GenesysLogic chipsets are the most popularly used for external hubs. It may well be the case that the xhci_hcd does not well handle the situation of USB 3.0 external hubs plugged into USB 3.0 internal hubs on a wide level. Probably the title of this bug report should be changed. It smells like when an external USB 3.0 hub is plugged into the port of an internal USB 3.0 hub, the khubd process goes into spinlock and never comes out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425803 Title: Driver problem with USB chipset VIA VL812-B2 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Presuming the system info you need is in the automatically generated collection from ubuntu-bug. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1348688] Re: kernel does not support limiting swap usage (memory.memsw.limit_in_bytes missing)
I had enconntered this same issue. I am not quite sure if it's CONFIG_* option not enabled or else however I was able to remedy the issue by adding 'swapaccount=1' to the kernel line. That in turn enabled memory.memsw.* options in cgroups. Hope this helps you. Sincerely yours, LH -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1348688 Title: kernel does not support limiting swap usage (memory.memsw.limit_in_bytes missing) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: (Sorry I'm not sure exactly what package to report this against - kernel perhaps? libvirt is what I was using to replicate the problem) Host platform: ubuntu 14.04 amd64, Mac Mini, 16GB RAM. Short version: create an LXC domain with memtune > swap_hard_limit set in the XML: gold-lxc-20140717 b2a02d49-bb1e-4aec-81d1-58910892780e 327680 327680 131072 ... If the guest exceeds this it can still use as much swap space as it likes, and is therefore effectively unlimited (and can happily DoS the swap disk). Long version: I created an ubuntu 14.04 i386 VM image using python-vmbuilder, loopback-mounted it with qemu-nbd, and rsync'd it to create a root filesystem for an LXC guest. Then defined a guest using libvirt XML and started it using "virsh -c lxc: start " (as per XML at end but without the section). It starts successfully, networking is fine, I can get a console etc. Now, the libvirt XML description says the guest's memory limit is 320MB: 327680 327680 and indeed the cgroups setting has been set: $ cat /sys/fs/cgroup/memory/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc/memory.limit_in_bytes 335544320 However inside the guest I can happily allocate as much memory as I like, up to just under 4GB, which is the limit for a 32-bit guest. Here's the test program I ran in the guest (usemem.c): #include #include #include int main(void) { char *p; int i,j; int ok=0, fail=0; for (i=0; i<4096; i++) { p = malloc(1024*1024); if (p) { ok++; for (j=0; j<1024*1024; j++) p[j] = rand(); } else fail++; } fprintf(stderr, "Done: %d ok, %d fail\n", ok, fail); sleep(600); return fail ? 1 : 0; } Result from running: Done: 4076 ok, 20 fail View from the host: nsrc@kit1:~/workshop-kit$ ps auxwww | grep usemem | grep -v grep nsrc 10506 96.1 1.3 4192152 224776 ? S+ 14:41 0:55 ./usemem $ cat /sys/fs/cgroup/memory/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc/memory.limit_in_bytes 335544320 $ cat /sys/fs/cgroup/memory/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc/memory.max_usage_in_bytes 335544320 $ cat /sys/fs/cgroup/memory/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc/memory.usage_in_bytes 292331520 You can see there's definitely 4GB in use by this process, and yet the cgroup thinks less than 280MB is in use, which is below the 320MB limit. However if you look at swap usage in the host while the memory suck program is running: $ free total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 163383003066952 13271348 1684 1355121489268 -/+ buffers/cache:1442172 14896128 Swap: 166789083971248 12707660 and after it has terminated: $ free total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 163383002774440 13563860 1684 1355441489188 -/+ buffers/cache:1149708 15188592 Swap: 16678908 5484 16673424 i.e. the LXC guest used nearly 4GB of swap, and then gave it up when it terminated. Additional info: cgroup view from inside the guest: $ cat /proc/self/cgroup 11:name=systemd:/ 10:hugetlb:/ 9:perf_event:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc 8:blkio:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc 7:freezer:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc 6:devices:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc 5:memory:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc 4:cpuacct:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc 3:cpu:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc 2:cpuset:/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc cgroup settings visible in the host: $ ls /sys/fs/cgroup/memory/machine/gold-lxc-20140717.libvirt-lxc/ cgroup.clone_children memory.limit_in_bytes cgrou

This feature adds the necessary support to exploit the dump capture capability provided by Power firmware. With this feature support, the production kernel will register for firmware-assisted dump using RTAS (Runtime Abstraction Service) calls and builds required ELF header which then gets exported through '/proc/vmcore' in the second kernel after crash. This feature improves Power serviceability by making it more robust compared to current kdump mechanism on Linux. Ubuntu 15.04 kernel already includes the necessary code for fadump. The only kernel change needed is to enable CONFIG_FA_DUMP in the kernel configuration. In addition, an update is needed for a script in kdump-tools package. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1384342] Re: kernel messages intel_crtc_wait_for_pending_flips correlate to compiz hang
14.10 is a development release of Ubuntu that is only supported for another 4 or so months - imho it is unlikely to see any kernel backport efforts in that time frame. There isn't really any point in being on an old development release of Ubuntu, if you aren't going LTS then you might as well just run the latest active development release, 15.04 will have linux 3.19. Linux 3.19 from PPA should work fine, if it doesn't then file a bug here or at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1384342 Title: kernel messages intel_crtc_wait_for_pending_flips correlate to compiz hang Status in The Linux Kernel: Unknown Status in System76: New Status in X.org xf86-video-intel: Fix Released Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in linux package in Debian: New Status in linux package in Fedora: Unknown Status in linux package in openSUSE: Unknown Bug description: I am fairly frequently (maybe once every 2 days) seeing screen lockups. Any estimates on if/when this fix will be backported to 14.10? Is installing 3.19 from the kernel ppa the recommended course of action until then? Ok, nevermind. This seems to be another issue. Namely for some reason /home fails to mount at boot for some reason: "The disk drive for /home is not ready yet or not present. I got the error report by a phone call by a non-technical non-English-speaking user, on whos machine I installed Kubuntu. After a while I got him to boot into the recovery prompt and enable me SSH access so I could downgrade these packages. After downgrading the system restarted well and came up. The user reported that the boot process was stuck at a "Starting configuring network connections" prompt or something. I'm not entirely sure, but I might have heard him muttering something about some cgroup messages. Anyway I still have SSH access, but I can't do on-site debugging until February 7 or restart via SSH and risk having to contact the user to recover from a broken boot. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1411361] Re: kernel 3.13.0-44 doesn't poweroff (shutdown) with WoL enabled
I have the same problem with 3.13.0-46. The P9D-X mobo simply does not power off if WoL is enabled. I tried to go back to 0-45 and 0-44 but they all show the problem. The last working kernel is 3.13.0-43. We are now 3 kernel later and the problem is still there. My lsb_release -rd shows: Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Release:14.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-lts-trusty in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1411361 Title: kernel 3.13.0-44 doesn't poweroff (shutdown) with WoL enabled Status in linux-lts-trusty package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This bug is similar to Bug #1346269. I successfully used to use WoL (wake on lan) since Sep. 2014 with Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS on my ASUS P9D-X Server. After I updated to kernel 3.13.0-44 this feature broke and my server always restarted when I issued a 'poweroff'. I disabled WoL for PCI and PCIe in the APM settings in BIOS and poweroff worked as it should, but then Wake on LAN is gone which is not a nice setting for a server in a closet. So I reverted to 3.13.0-43 and the problem was gone. Thus something in kernel -44 must have changed to the worse. Please check what has happened and fix this issue again in upcoming kernel releases. #lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Release:14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-trusty/+bug/1411361/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
