[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1439361] Re: USB to Ethernet adapter not working on USB 3 port but OK on USB 2 port
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1439361 Title: USB to Ethernet adapter not working on USB 3 port but OK on USB 2 port Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Hello, my new laptop is a Dell XPS 11, with no ethernet port. So I bought an USB to Ethernet adapter. It also has two more USB 3 ports. When connected on my laptop, I'm unable to acquire an IP through my DHCP, but a new network interface is automatically raised. I tried to set manually an IP, but I cannot ping any system which normally honors ping requests. The surprising point is that when I connect the same adapter on an old laptop (Dell E4300), running the same version of Ubuntu 14.04 (both systems are fully up-to-date), it perfectly works ! The only difference I can see is that my old laptop has only USB 2 ports... Additionally, the USB hub works on both computers, and I connected the adapter to 2 desktop computers : - one with an additional USB 3 card : it works ; - one with embedded USB 3 port : same error as with the modern laptop. So it really seems to be a problem related to the way USB 3 is handled by Ubuntu 14.04, but perhaps only with some specific chipsets. I cannot find what chipset is on the mainboard of my laptop (it is an Intel one, for sure, since the CPU is a Core i5-4210Y), but my desktop PC as an Intel Z97 chipset. Here is what I read tailing kern.log when connecting the adapter. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] not supported
Hey, I figured out my problem. Turns out that some of the header files and code were broken (had a padlock on the icon) or were missing altogether. I made new copies of the file with the same code and formatting. After that, there were no problems running the command: make -jX @Jane Doe, Isaiah: I found this thread that may address your concern. I originally had to answer the questions as well. But I ran the command make olddefconfig before running make -jX. Here's the thread in which your problem may be addressed. (Note, I used the second post) http://serverfault.com/questions/116299/automatically-answer-defaults-when-doing-make-oldconfig-on-a-kernel-tree My wireless card is working now. I would also rise priority, since the issue - makes it often impossible to shut down the machine cleanly, requiring a hard reset which may result in data loss; - I imagine that it can make it quite hard to install security updates from ubuntu as any update of the kernel package tends to result in the system hanging at the make initramfs phase, that probably queries all system drives. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451277 Title: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic->vivid upgrade with Iomega Zip drive (IDE) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: On Kubuntu, 64 bit AMD Phenom2 machine with 4 cores, and old (Geoforge 7025) Nvidia graphics. Sorry I cannot provide details with apport, but the machine has been switched off and I will not be able to take it up again before a few days from now. The symptom I am observing may also be a sign of failing hardware, so please leave the bug as unconfirmed until I make some more tests or someone provide details on similar issues. In the meantime I would like to see if others are experiencing a similar serious issue. Is there anything specific that has changed between utopic and vivid, I should look into? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] not supported
Hello everyone, I followed the steps in #150, and after entering the "make -jX" command, I get asked a lot of things I don't understand, it's the first time I am compiling a kernel. Is this how it should be? I just pressed enter on everything, since I guess this sets up the default values...? I'm running Ubuntu 15.04 on an Acer Aspire VN7-571G (dual-boot with Windows 8.1). I entered "make -j4", I have the Intel Core i7-5500U 2.4 which has 2 cores but is able to "behave like it had 4 cores". Should I've been entering "make -j2" instead? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1383184 Title: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] not supported Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Card detail: Qualcomm Atheros Device [168c:003e] (rev 20) Subsystem: Bigfoot Networks, Inc. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1446724] Re: server is stable under older kernel (3.2.0-29.46), but crashes under newer kernels
I already did these tests (that you call "bisect") between kernels 3.2.0-29 and 14.02.2. As far as I can tell, every kernel after 3.2.0-31.50 causes my PC to crash, and 3.2.0-32.51 is the first kernel release that causes this problem. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446724 Title: server is stable under older kernel (3.2.0-29.46), but crashes under newer kernels Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: My PC is stable running Ubuntu Server 12.04.5 LTS using the old kernel 3.2.0-29.46. But it crashes whenever I tried to update the kernel to 3.2.0-65.99 or higher (including 14.04.2 LTS). So somewhere between 3.2.0-29.46 and 3.2.0-65.99, changes to the kernel caused my PC to crash (note: I have not tried kernels older than 3.2.0-65.99, so I don't know the exact version that started to cause the crash). I think this is likely a hardware compatibility issue since I could not find any system logs regarding the crashes. My PC is very old (Compaq Evo D510 SFF/07E4h, BIOS 68602 v2.14 08/15/2002), so I am not sure if this bug is worth troubleshooting. In the meantime, I am happy with the performance of my PC running 3.2.0-29.46. But if anyone is interested in troubleshooting this bug, please let me know. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k3.13.0-32-generic. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 153768] Re: External SATA (eSATA) removable disk not auto mounted
I have Ubuntu 12.04 desktop, and my newly external drive(ext4) connected to the computer through eSATA interface, is not automatically mounted when I turn it on. Manual mounting works ok. Would be nice to have it automatically mounted when turned on! I am planning to install the latest desktop LTS... i hope it will be auto mounted there! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153768 Title: External SATA (eSATA) removable disk not auto mounted Status in Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL): Fix Released Status in The Linux Kernel: Invalid Status in OEM Priority Project: Won't Fix Status in OEM Priority Project oneiric series: Won't Fix Status in hal package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in udisks2 package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: eSATA disks are are not auto mounted when plugged in. This is because udisks uses a heuristic to decide if it should auto mount a drive. The heuristic is motivated by the desire to not auto mount internal disks/partitions that belong to other operating systems. The heuristic currently makes the assumption that disks connected via a usb bus are external, and disks connected with other buses ( sata, scsi ) are internal, and thus does not mount them. This heuristic is inherently unreliable as usb disks can potentially be internal, and sas/sata disks can be external. Thus, the heuristic needs to be disabled, and all unknown disks need to be auto mounted. Disks detected but left unconfigured at install time should have entries in /etc/fstab set to noauto to prevent their being auto mounted. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1461738] Re: iwl3945 on X61T crashes with Error sending C_POWER_TBL: time out after 500ms
Edward Z. Yang, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1461986] Re: can't change usb_charge attribute in /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop
Black, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds ? Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-r0230da ** Tags added: latest-bios-r0230da ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Medium ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1461986 Title: can't change usb_charge attribute in /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I am on a Sony VAIO svf43142sn. My laptop has the ability to leave a USB port powered on even after shutdown to charge other devices. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1446724] Re: server is stable under older kernel (3.2.0-29.46), but crashes under newer kernels
Tang Dahong, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.2.0-29.46 to 3.2.0-65.99 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting. Thank you for your understanding. Helpful bug reporting tips: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs ** Tags added: trusty ** Tags added: needs-bisect regression-update ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446724 Title: server is stable under older kernel (3.2.0-29.46), but crashes under newer kernels Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: My PC is stable running Ubuntu Server 12.04.5 LTS using the old kernel 3.2.0-29.46. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1450396] Re: Gigabyte P35-DS3: does not stay suspended
Some progress: After I failed to identify the responsible hook by running them before 'systemctl suspend' I had the idea to test vice versa if I would be able to reproduce the undesired wakeups with pm- suspend by successively disabling its hooks (=moving the files in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d to another directoy). And I was successfull: The hook that seems to be responsible for correct suspend on my system is 00powersave. If all other hooks are enabled except this one, the bug also appears with pm-suspend. And on the other hand if 00powersave is enabled (even if it is the only hook enabled), I was not able to reproduce the bug with pm-suspend. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450396 Title: Gigabyte P35-DS3: does not stay suspended Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hello, using Suspend-to-RAM on my system has stopped working reliably on Vivid when booting with Systemd. When I try to suspend my PC the following happens: - PC turns off - PC unwantedly wakes up (turns on) by itself again. This time span until it turns on again can reach from a second (almost immediately) until two or three minutes. - In a few cases (<25%), the PC stays suspended properly. A way to workaround this problem is to boot my PC with Upstart instead of Systemd, then this problem never happens (and has never happened in any of the previous Ubuntu versions since 2008). Thus it seems to be a bug somehow related to Systemd. Other steps I have tried to solve the problem (without any success): - Checking BIOS settings, all options are set that way that the PC should never wake up by any event other than pressing the power button. - Checking by running "cat /proc/acpi/wakeup | grep enabled" if any device could cause wake up events. This lists my USB controller, but deactivating it (with commands like "echo USB0 > /proc/acpi/wakeup") had no success on the problem. Also suspend while running Upstart works fine despite the USB controller listed as "enabled". In the system logs I could see no hint what causes the undesired wake- ups. Allthough there is one factor which seems to have a certain influence: If I close programs like Pidgin, Skype or Firefox that cause continuous network traffic, the chance is higher that my PC will stay suspened (while runinng Systemd).
