Title:
[arm64] Kernel panic while running coreutils testsuite

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in linux source package in Trusty:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
The kernel crashes when building coreutils on arm64, impacting the Ubuntu
buildds. Also maybe considered a local DoS, as it can be used by a local
non-privileged user to crash a system.

  [Test Case]
Build the Ubuntu coreutils package w/ tests enabled (the default) on an arm64
system.

  [Regression Risk]
I'm no expert in this code, but it is an obviously missing part of the
backport, and looks identical to what was used in other upstream stable trees
(3.12.y in particular). So, though I don't feel like I can properly assess the
regression risk - at least we should have some interest from upstream to help
fix regressions that do pop up.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1473655] [NEW] wl driver cause kernel oops

2015-07-11 Thread zebul666
Public bug reported:

As far as I can go in the log ie. 201504 when I installed vivid, I can
find traces of kernel oops regarding wl driver.

I never noticed it. Until recently when I got freeze, kernel panic (caps
lock led blinking), when deactivating the BCM43142 wifi card in nm
applet. Or that card failing to asociate to an AP.

Or even no network traffic even though I am connected to the AP.

So I began to believe of an hardware problem with the card until I found
all these kernel oops. There are more frequent recently.

Bug description:
All of a sudden, the volume keys from the keyboard have stopped
  working.

The volume control on the top right corner of the screen does work if
  used with the mouse.

I have both an external usb keyboard with dedicated volume + and -
keys, and the builtin laptop keyboard where the volume +/-keys are the
combination of the Fn key plus the up/down arrows.

All these used to work up to a few minutes ago. Now none of them works.
I think they stopped working with the last reboot.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1255428] Re: 8086:0116 [Lenovo IdeaPad Z570] LCD brightness control keys and widget do not work on Intel Graphics

2015-07-11 Thread Shriramana Sharma
Confirmed on 4.2-RC1. Same workarounds still work. BTW I also checked on
Fedora 22 which has kernel 4.0.4 (admittedly lesser version but) which
means it's not Ubuntu specific anyhow.

8086:0116 [Lenovo IdeaPad Z570] LCD brightness control keys and widget
do not work on Intel Graphics

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading to Saucy, on my Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 with Intel HD
Graphics 3000, it is no longer possible to control the LCD brightness
using the hardware brightness control keys. Likewise for the KDE power
management settings or the battery icon on my Kubuntu Plasma tray. (I
don't use GNOME/Unity.) Until Raring I did not have this problem.

  WORKAROUND: At a terminal:
  echo 150 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

where 150 is on the scale of 0 to whatever is given within
  /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness. Based on this I
wrote a GUI which however needs to be run using sudo/kdesudo/gksudo. I
  have attached it.

Title:
  wl driver cause kernel oops

Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
As far as I can go in the log ie. 201504 when I installed vivid, I can
find traces of kernel oops regarding wl driver.

I never noticed it. Until recently when I got freeze, kernel panic
(caps lock led blinking), when deactivating the BCM43142 wifi card in
nm applet. Or that card failing to asociate to an AP.

Or even no network traffic even though I am connected to the AP.

So I began to believe of an hardware problem with the card until I
found all these kernel oops. There are more frequent recently.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1397885] Re: [Atheros AR9462] Bluetooth looks activated but cannot be used

2015-07-11 Thread Raphaël Jakse
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1394368 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1394368

Hello !

The patch in comment #7 seems to consider my bluetooth adapter as a AR3012 ship.
According to https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath3k, it seems
to be a AR3011 ship:

How to tell AR3011 and AR3012

You can use lsusb -v to check the device descriptor. If it's AR3011,
the iProduct value is 0. If it's AR3012 the iProduct value is 2.

The iProduct of by device seems to be 0, so my device seems to be a
AR3011 ship.

According to the same page, if I got it correct, the firmware to use for
AR3011 is ath3k-1.fw, not AthrBT_*.dfu and ramps_0x*_40.dfu.

Do you know how to tell ath3k to consider my device as a AR3011 ship?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1458470] Re: no uevent after ejecting CD-ROM

2015-07-11 Thread Sworddragon
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

I'm using user-defined udev rules which I have noticed stopped working
shortly before I have created this ticket. Based on these rules I have
created the testcase in the startpost so yes, this was working not much
time before I have created this ticket.

file /tmp/test.txt on booting but if I'm then deleting the file and
ejecting /dev/sr0 the file isn't created anymore.

Title:
arecord -d never completes and creates hundreds of files

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
in Ubuntu 15.04 arecord seems not to work as expected:

  arecord -d5 -Dhw:1 -twav -r44100 -fS32_LE -c2 /tmp/msplaysweep.wav

this is supposed to stop after 5 seconds but instead runs forever creaeting
continously new files in /tmp. This is 100% reproducible for me on 2 sound

continously new files in /tmp. This is 100% reproducible for me on 2 sound
hardwares (internal sound card and USB sound card).

Title:
arecord -d never completes and creates hundreds of files

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
in Ubuntu 15.04 arecord seems not to work as expected:

  arecord -d5 -Dhw:1 -twav -r44100 -fS32_LE -c2 /tmp/msplaysweep.wav

this is supposed to stop after 5 seconds but instead runs forever creaeting
continously new files in /tmp. This is 100% reproducible for me on 2 sound

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1473664] [NEW] package linux-image-extra-3.13.0-57-generic 3.13.0-57.95 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-07-11 Thread Larry Fahnoe
Public bug reported:

Just doing a normal update and got errors (hopefully automatically
included). The only thing that comes to mind to mention is that last
update there was a new /etc/default/grub which differed slightly (only a
comment line), otherwise this system normally receives updates without
issue. Thanks.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1454158] Re: When SCSI bus hangs SES driver indefinitely block any process accessing LED status for devices

Title:
When SCSI bus hangs SES driver indefinitely block any process
  accessing LED status for devices

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 14.04, 3.13.0-40-generic

  Configuration:

SCSI (mpt2sas, 16.100.00.00) with few enclosures with SATA disks.

  Situation:
One of enclosures is hung and do not reply to any requests (including reset).
All sg_* command to any device behind hanged enclosure, including enclosure
itself, are stuck in the 'D' state.

  Problem:
Access to sysfs place processes in 'D' state:

  cat /sys/class/enclosure/5\:0\:46\:0/Slot\ 01/locate

  root 588 0.0 0.0 7152 612 pts/6D+ 08:40 0:00 cat
  /sys/class/enclosure/5:0:46:0/Slot 01/locate

Proposed solution: Add timeout to ses devices independent of HBA
  driver.

Rationale: Accessing to sysfs do not expect to be 'real IO' with
chances to hung in 'D' forever.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1404409] Re: [regression] Intel 10Gb NIC Crashes

I reinstalled Trusty from scratch and I still can't reproduce it. It's
always been somewhat intermittent.

  [regression] Intel 10Gb NIC Crashes

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I posted this to net...@vger.kernel.org as well:
  http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg309110.html

I think the next step is to try to bisect this down to a specific commit. I'm
starting to look at the instructions here:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection

  Previous history of this thread:
  http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network/326672

On 2014-11-04 22:57:19, Tom Herbert wrote:
Using vlan and bonding? vlan_dev_hard_start_xmit called. A possible
cause is that bonding interface is out of sync with slave interface
w.r.t. GSO features. Do we know if this worked in 3.14, 3.15?

  I'm seeing the same sort of crash/warning (skb_war_bad_offload). It's
happening on Intel 10 Gig NICs using the ixgbe driver. I'm using bridges
(for virtual machines) on top of VLANs on top of 802.3ad bonding. I'm
using an MTU of 9000 on the bond0 interface, but 1500 everywhere else.

I'm always bonding two ports: one one system, I'm bonding two ports on
identical one-port NICs; on another system, I'm bonding two ports on a
single two-port NIC. Both systems exhibit the same behavior.

Everything has worked fine for a couple years on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise
(Linux 3.2.0). It immediately broke when I upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04
Trusty (Linux 3.13.0). I can also reproduce this using the packaged
version of Linux 3.16.0 on Trusty.

In contrast to other reports of this bug, disabling scatter gather on
the physical interfaces (e.g. eth0) does *not* stop the crashes
  (assuming I disabled it correctly).

I currently have two systems (one with Precise, one with Trusty)
available to do any testing that you'd find helpful.

Here's a first pass at getting some debugging data.

The broken system (Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty):

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1457369] Re: kernel 3.19.0-18 breaks HDMI audio for snd_hda_intel

2015-07-11 Thread Kenneth W Parker
Update from prior message: I fixed sound, using Pulseaudio. I had to
apt-get install pavucontrol, and then issue alsa -force-reload. But
now, sound works with vmlinuz-3.19.0-22-generic. Thanks everyone!
