[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1644919] Re: [fn] plus F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F10, F11, F12 not responding - Fresh Install

2017-03-11 Thread jamso
Sorry about the above post. Let me try again

I've been having the same problems on a gigabyte p57 xcf3. Bug #1665530
also reports this. Currently I am running the latest bios for this
laptop, Ubuntu 16.10 and kernel 4.10.1-041001-generic.

Initially I did not have the "i8042.nomux=1" parameter. Adding this
parameter to just stop the touchpad working for me, but it seems very
hit-and-miss whether the touchpad decides to work in general.

Another thing not mentioned, the keyboard backlight keys (fn + space)
does not work. However, if I switch on the backllight in windows, it
will stay switched on on the first boot of linux, but switches off for
the second boot.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1669620] Re: Reboot when resume from suspend

2017-03-11 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Can you make persistent log by
$ sudo mkdir -p /var/log/journal
$ sudo systemd-tmpfiles --create --prefix /var/log/journal

Then reboot the system, and add "drm.debug=0x0e" to kernel parameter?
After the resume failed, attach the output of `journalctl -b -1`, thanks!

  Reboot when resume from suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  When I resume my computer from suspend2ram, after about 2 seconds it
  shutdowns and after about 3 seconds swithces on, and system starts to
  boot from GRUB as it was poweroff.

  But if I resume my computer right away after it was suspended, it
  resumes properly. I occur this problem if some amount of time passed
  between suspend and resume.

  And I didn't reproduce this problem when lightdm was stopped (but the
  screen is black after resume, but I can login via SSH). But with
  launched X Server the problem occurs both with nouveau and Nvidia
  proprietary driver.

  There is not this problem on Ubuntu 14.04 (it is installed on this

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1596469] Re: [Bug]tpm initialization fails on x86

2017-03-11 Thread Alpha
I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.2 with kernel 4.8.0-41-generic on ASUS ux330ua
(Skylake i7-6500). The problem is still there. So the fix doesn't seem

Bug description:
  When trying to test TPM with Ubuntu 16.04 on Intel x86_64 platform, there's
tpm initialization failure found in kernel log:

  which leads to tpm device missing under /dev:
  root@SKLU1-leg:~# ls -l /dev/tpm*
  ls: cannot access '/dev/tpm*': No such file or directory

  This error has been fixed with patch below, but not yet merged to upstream
kernel:

http://git.infradead.org/users/jjs/linux-tpmdd.git/commit/0af6e0a2da2e4fedaa274da438d3b879192b

  Patch 0af6e0a has dependency to this patch:

http://git.infradead.org/users/jjs/linux-tpmdd.git/commit/3f944075e75e28c9cf1af8f82798398b
  So 0af6e0a has to be applied upon 3f94407, otherwise patch apply fails.

  I've verified with kernel 4.7-rc4 that above 2 patches can fix this TPM issue.
  So please Ubuntu team help on backporting these 2 patches into the kernel of
their next release.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-03-11 Thread monteleo
It is several months that this bug has been confirmed and still no fix
is available. This is the typical bug that prevent people to switch to
linux as desktop. This is not a minor bug, a lot of people use bluetooth
audio with laptop/desktop. Who cares of new features if people still has
to fight with these basic things!!

  Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  In 16.04 when a bluetooth audio device is connected it freezes video
  playback and also no sound comes from online audio only streams. Issue
  does not exist with a wired headset.

  This issue does not exist with 15.10. All updates have been installed
  on 16.04 including backports but they have not fixed the issue.

  It is not browser specific and not website specific.

  It is not hardware specific as it affects my laptop with an intel 7260
  card and my pc with an intel 8260 card.

  The issue exists on both ubuntu and kubuntu 16.04.

  I have reported it on the ubuntu support forums and after
  investigation a moderator noticed changed in the kernel from 4.4 and
  4.2 that may becausing the issue and asked me to file a bug report.

Bug description:
  I have a Dell XPS 13 9350 with a Broadcom wifi adapter. Wifi connects
  fine, but dies for around 5-10s (the signal dies completely, tools

  dmesg logs the same brcmfmac errors every minute or so: "brcmfmac:
  brcmf_cfg80211_reg_notifier: not a ISO3166 code (0x30 0x30)".

  network-manager's icon doesn't change however (remains as if the
  adapter was connected).

  This issue started to affect me when using kernel 4.8 on Ubuntu 16.04.
  I previously used kernel 4.7 and did not experience this bug.

  I booted the 16.10 daily build and experienced exactly the same
  errors.

Title:
  Intel AC7260 wireless (iwlwifi) stops working after computer
  sleep/wakeup

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Since about the beginning of 2017 the Intel AC7260 wireless card on my Asus
UX501 stops working correctly when the computer suspends to RAM and wakes up
again (laptop lid closed and opened).
  The message is:

  [ 7679.281856] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

  The only way to come around this problem is to re-insert the iwlwifi
  module:

  sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi; sudo modprobe iwlwifi

  To be more precise what it means stops working: The wifi does not see
  the networks correctly. nm-applet reports only one of many networks in
  my area. My network is not there and it does not connect.

  I used to have the problem rarely in the past. However it happened only
occasionally and I could live with the above workaround. Since about the
beginning of 2017 it happens __always__. Not sure, which update exactly caused
it, but you can imagine how annoying it is.
  I would appreciate if it could be fixed. Thanks!

  Here is the relevant dmesg log:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1599306] Re: [HP Pavilion dv2910us Entertainment Notebook PC] i8042 need to start early after grub

2017-03-11 Thread Federico Leoni
i8042.kbdreset=1, i8042.reset and i8042.nomux=1 with no luck.
I don't remember if I've tested atkbd, but I can give a new spin of boot
options tomorrow just to be sure.

Title:
  [HP Pavilion dv2910us Entertainment Notebook PC] i8042 need to start
  early after grub

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  The kernel module i8042 need to start early after grub selection. I've
upgrade my notebook (HP dv2700 series, model dv2910us) with an SSD and now I
need to wait 15 seconds after LightDM show up before I can use the internal
keyboard.On bios and on GRUB the keyboard works fine but stops working the
exact moment the kernel starts to load.
  An USB external keyboard works fine with no delay at all (different module, I
know).
  It's not related to the SSD because even on recovery mode I can reproduce the
issue with an old mechanical disk.

  Here's a video showing a full cycle of boots with Ubuntu 16.04:

  https://youtu.be/yseDPvqWNw4

  And here a video of the recovery mode where the delay is much evident:

  https://youtu.be/vbsD9tb-Dn8

  Here is my xinput configuration:

  ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
  ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
  ⎜ ↳ AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint id=11[slave pointer (2)]
  ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
  ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
  ↳ Power Button id=6   [slave keyboard (3)]
  ↳ Video Bus id=7  [slave keyboard (3)]
  ↳ Sleep Button id=8   [slave keyboard (3)]
  ↳ HP Webcam id=9  [slave keyboard (3)]
  ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
  ↳ HP WMI hotkeys id=12[slave keyboard (3)]

  Keyboard on id 10.

  Would be nice have it working at the same time of the USB module.

  Tested with Ubuntu/Xubuntu 14.04, 14.10, 15.04, 15.10 and the latest 16.04.
  Thanks.

Have you tried various quirks on i8042 and atkbd? Like i8042.kbdreset=1
or atkbd.reset=1?

Bug description:

need to wait 15 seconds after LightDM show up before I can use the internal
keyboard.On bios and on GRUB the keyboard works fine but stops working the
exact moment the kernel starts to load.
  An USB external keyboard works fine with no delay at all (different module, I
know).
  It's not related to the SSD because even on recovery mode I can reproduce the
issue with an old mechanical disk.

  Here's a video showing a full cycle of boots with Ubuntu 16.04:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on AMD Ryzen / Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3

2017-03-11 Thread Maciej Dziardziel
> Maciej, do you have any suggestions if there is no previous OS
installed?

You may try to boot with those options:

acpi=off quiet loglevel=3

(just acpi=off might be enough). That should get you through
installation.

Title:
  System doesn't boot properly on AMD Ryzen / Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I'm trying to run ubuntu on Ryzen 1700x with Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3
motherboard,
  and it has a load of problems, starting with not being able to boot normally.

  During normal boot, on 16.10 as well as 17.04 beta:
  system doesn't boot normally, hangs with a lot of "unexpected irq trap at
vector 07"
  messages displayed.

  Following advice from various places, I've tried:disable cpu freq governor
and cpu handling in acpi settings

  1. add "acpi=off" to boot params

  That helps, allowing me to boot into recovery mode, though it leaves
  me with system seeing only one core, is really slow and still only
  boots in recovery mode.

  2. Compile own kernel using 4.11.rc1 and disabling cpu freq governor
  and cpu handling in acpi settings. Boot with "quiet loglevel=3"
  option.

  That gets me even further - system sees all cores now. Still only recovery
mode though,
  but its enough to get info for this bug report.

  Some observed problems:

  1. dmesg reports *a lot* of messages like this all the time:

  [  163.362068] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
  [  163.362081] bad_chained_irq+0x0/0x40
  [  163.362089] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
  [  163.362090] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200
  [  163.362090] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20,
  [  163.362090] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120
  [  163.362090] ->action(): 884601c0
  [  163.362091]IRQ_NOPROBE set
  [  163.362099] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
  [  163.362099] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200
  [  163.362100] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20,
  [  163.362100] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120
  [  163.362101] ->action(): 884601c0

  I've tried to redirect dmesg to a file, stopped after a short while,
  it generated 400M of those.

  2. Systemd cannot start journald. Perhaps because it cannot cope with
  amount of kernel logs?

  3. Looking at pci, I've noticed something called AMDI0040
  (/sys/bus/acpi/devices/AMDI0040, path=_SB_.EMMC), among AMDI0010,
  AMDI0020, AMDI0030. Those however are mentioned in kernel source,
  kernel and google are completely silent about AMDI0040.

  Phoronix tested ryzen using different motherboard, and it worked better
(though not well),
  so I suspect it is an issue with motherboard.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1415880] Re: 14e4:4365 bcmwl-kernel source: fix for null pointer crash

2017-03-11 Thread Brian Burch
Sorry to say this fix arrived much too late. The system affected is
running xenial and doesn't experience these symptoms.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * bcmwl does not compile on new kernels (or HWE kernels)
   * bcmwl suffers from null reference bug

  [Test Case]

   * public PPA provided to community and feedback
   * based on patch available to other distros
   * comment #42

  [Regression Potential]

   * for changes on kernel support it may not compile (tested with 3.2, 3.13,
3.18 and 4.2)
   * for the null reference change -> proved to fix problem for community based
on feedback

  [Other Info]

  Original bug description:

  The bcmwl package as of now misses one patch for a bug that occurs
  with BCM43142 and possibly other broadcom chipsets that will look like
  random disconnects, poor wifi signal and kernel warnings, See also
  #1379524.

  Adding the patch is a fairly simple process:

  * put the patch file in /usr/src/bcmwl-6.30.223.248+bdcom/patches
  * add the following line to /usr/src/bcmwl-6.30.223.248+bdcom/dkms.conf
  PATCH[7]="0014-null-pointer-crash.patch"
  * run: /usr/lib/dkms/common.postinst bcmwl 6.30.223.248+bdcom
/usr/share/bcmwl x86_64 $(uname -r)

  This has fixed the issue for me. Edit: I just wanted to add that I did
  not write the patch; I merely downloaded it from a paste that was
  linked from the respective AUR package.

Bug description:
  A system being certified hangs hard when a VGA monitor is plugged in.
  The machine has a built-in DP MST bridge, but the driver has no
  support for MST. Upstream recently added a patch to add support for
  it, and it improves the situation that there's no hang anymore.
  Monitor still stays blank but that'll need another SRU once a patch
  for it is available.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1653009] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot from Sandisk usb stick with latest kernels

2017-03-11 Thread Daro
Hello Joseph,

unfortunately the issue persits on my new laptop (Dell Latitude E5470):
the working version is 4.4.0-59.80 but with 4.4.0-62.83 and next the
problem comes back. I will post a separate bug for it.

  and booting process fails resuming to BusyBox

  process goes further
