[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1678184] Re: APST quirk needed for Samsung 512GB NVMe drive

2017-06-04 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
@François
Add "nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0" to kernel parameter to see if
disable APST completely helps.

@Marco
Add "nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=5500" to kernel parameter to see if
disable deepest power state helps.

APST quirk needed for Samsung 512GB NVMe drive

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in linux source package in Yakkety:

Status in linux source package in Zesty:

Bug description:
APST support just landed in the latest Zesty kernel (4.10.0-14.16) as
  part of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1664602.
That patch has a quirk for certain 256GB Samsung drives found in Dell
laptops that do not behave well when APST is enabled. I am
experiencing the same symptoms with the same model laptop except with
a 512GB Samsung. Prior to manually disabling APST the drive would die
and system would go down in flames with I/O errors within 20 to 40
  minutes of boot.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1359803] Re: External mic not being used in combo port

External mic not being used in combo port

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 on my Asus 1015E that only has a combo audio
port which accepts smartphone type "headsets" (3.5mm TRRS headphones
with mic on the same wire).

Ubuntu does not deactivate the built-in mic when I connect my headset.
It doesn't even use the headset mic and instead keeps picking up audio
signal from the integrated microphone (that's on my laptop bezel).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1694090] Re: ZoL: wrong import order prevents boot

2017-06-04 Thread Jens Elkner
It might be also a result of the bogus mount.zfs, which requires POSIX
incorrect arguments but honors POSIXLY_CORRECT env var!

Had a similar zfs mount order problem with a rpool/local/home/{A,B,C}
tree (was created using -p option) ...

Bug description:
  Hello Everybody,

since last update from ubuntu 16.04.2, last night, my servers are
randomly not able to read and write from shared folders. I got this
  message:

lsof: WARNING: can't stat() cifs file system /mnt/record
    Output information may be incomplete.
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() cifs file system /mnt/record
    Output information may be incomplete.
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() cifs file system /mnt/record
    Output information may be incomplete.
  ...
rsync: ERROR: cannot stat destination "/mnt/record/": Host is down (112)
rsync error: errors selecting input/output files, dirs (code 3) at
main.c(652) [Receiver=3.1.1]

This comes from my cron script.

When I type df -h it takes sometimes very long to get the list. And it
also can be that the mounted share is disconnected and I have to mount
-a (what also takes long) again.

  My fstab have this command:

  //address /mnt/storage cifs

auto,nofail,iocharset=utf8,rw,credentials=/path/.smb,uid=1000,gid=1000,file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770

I had to remove the latest kernel update, after that it works.

I had the same problem with my Aorus X370, changed for a ASUS prime,
everything is working, even the overclock.

System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)

Status in Linux:

Status in linux source package in Zesty:

Status in linux source package in Artful:

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Gigabyte AM4 boards users cannot boot Ubuntu successfully.
  Commit linux-gpio/fixes babdc22b0ccf4ef5a3075ce6e4afc26b7a279faf
"pinctrl/amd: Use regular interrupt instead of chained" can fix the issue.

  [Test Case]
All Gigabyte AM4 boards can reproduce the issue.
With the patch, the issue is resolved, per comment #170.

  [Regression Potential]
Regression Potential is low. It limits to rather new AMD platform which has
pinctrl-amd.
As the commit log says, use chained interrupt is not a good idea. Use regular
interrupt is the correct way.

I also test the patch on an AMD laptop, where its touchpad depends on
  pinctrl-amd. No regression found.

  Original bug report:
I'm trying to run ubuntu on Ryzen 1700x with Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3
motherboard,
and it has a load of problems, starting with not being able to boot normally.

During normal boot, on 16.10 as well as 17.04 beta:
system doesn't boot normally, hangs with a lot of "unexpected irq trap at
vector 07"
  messages displayed.

Following advice from various places, I've tried:disable cpu freq
governor and cpu handling in acpi settings

  1. add "acpi=off" to boot params

That helps, allowing me to boot into recovery mode, though it leaves
me with system seeing only one core, is really slow and still only
  boots in recovery mode.

  2. Compile own kernel using 4.11.rc1 and disabling cpu freq governor
and cpu handling in acpi settings. Boot with "quiet loglevel=3"
  option.

That gets me even further - system sees all cores now. Still only recovery
mode though,
but its enough to get info for this bug report.

  Some observed problems:

  1. dmesg reports *a lot* of messages like this all the time:

  [  163.362068] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
  [ 163.362081] bad_chained_irq+0x0/0x40
  [  163.362089] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
  [ 163.362090] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200
  [  163.362090] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20,
  [ 163.362090] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120
  [  163.362090] ->action(): 884601c0
  [ 163.362091]IRQ_NOPROBE set
  [  163.362099] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
  [ 163.362099] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200
  [  163.362100] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20,
  [ 163.362100] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120
  [  163.362101] ->action(): 884601c0

I've tried to redirect dmesg to a file, stopped after a short while,
  it generated 400M of those.

  2. Systemd cannot start journald. Perhaps because it cannot cope with
  amount of kernel logs?

  3. Looking at pci, I've noticed something called AMDI0040
  (/sys/bus/acpi/devices/AMDI0040, path=_SB_.EMMC), among AMDI0010,
AMDI0020, AMDI0030. Those however are mentioned in kernel source,
  kernel and goog

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1550779] Re: [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun - Xorg glitches

2017-06-04 Thread Chris
I see the same issue on 17.04 running kernel 4.10.0-21

Firefox seems perfectly stable, but running other apps like Gnome-
Terminal, VLC and others I see black boxes, flashes and bars across the
screen. Often they come and go in a flash, but sometimes the whole
screen goes and the laptop shuts down (not gracefully - nothing in the
logs, seems like a sudden power cut).

dmesg shows a message about under run each time the graphical glitches
are seen:

"[10126.284724] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU
pipe A FIFO underrun
[28144.138412] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU

[68998.747340] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU

"

I am happy to troubleshoot this, please someone make suggestions!!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-06-04 Thread Bram Biesbrouck
Please don't nag about the stability of an operating system in a small
bugthread about a bluetooth issue over and over again. If you feel like
being a member of the community and you care about contributing to the
solution, please do, but this is hardly the place to start complaining
about Linux as a whole.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-06-04 Thread Andy Schultheis
As others have stated on this thread, this is a major bug, and just
another reason not to use Linux. It's a great OS in general terms but
has never been ready for prime time. It's a very small percentage of
the public willing to tinker with the OS on a fundamental level, and an
even smaller percentage willing to work in a command line to fix or
install programs. It's just not practical and takes a level of patience
and skill 99.99% of the population don't possess. Take the lead of
Windows and Mac. Click on something and have it install, and more
importantly, just work. This bluetooth bug is simply the tip of the
iceberg.

That being said, I like Linux and will continue to use it. Makes me
feel like a rebel!

Honestly though, it's never been an easy operating system to work with
with. It's buggy and complicated. It fights you continuously.

I run the latest Kubuntu, which I personally like the best, but have
tried dozens of iterations over the years.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-06-04 Thread Andy Schultheis
I did find a workaround, but it's not exactly convenient.

While connected to your bluetooth device...

1. Configure your audio profile to HSP/HFP and save it.

2. Disconnect bluetooth device.

3. Reconnect bluetooth device.

4. Configure your audio profile back to A2DP

Should hold during the session. I have to do it every reboot. could
probably script it.

Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
In 16.04 when a bluetooth audio device is connected it freezes video
playback and also no sound comes from online audio only streams. Issue
does not exist with a wired headset.

This issue does not exist with 15.10. All updates have been installed
on 16.04 including backports but they have not fixed the issue.

It is not browser specific and not website specific.

It is not hardware specific as it affects my laptop with an intel 7260
card and my pc with an intel 8260 card.

The issue exists on both ubuntu and kubuntu 16.04.

I have reported it on the ubuntu support forums and after
investigation a moderator noticed changed in the kernel from 4.4 and
4.2 that may becausing the issue and asked me to file a bug report.

The ubuntu forum thread can be found here.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1670041] Re: Poor performance of Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac (rev 32) (Killer Wireless 1535)

2017-06-04 Thread Dmitrii Shcherbakov
** Description changed:

+ Update (2017-05-20):
+ Kalle Valo suggested a hack which increased client -> AP TCP performance - so
it does not look like a firmware issue as I thought originally, rather an
ath10k driver issue:
+ https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/5784701/ (the hack is at the bottom)
+ Tested here:
+
Update: added some forensics in the paste (a long read):
  http://paste.ubuntu.com/24118478/

- TL;DR with a bit of intuition:
- We need a new firmware-5.bin from Qualcomm Atheros for this rev 32 card in
order to make it work well - if anybody has contacts there it would be nice to
ask them to upload this to the upstream linux-firmware tree.

  I experience a very poor 802.11ac performance of a QCA6174 Wireless card

Testing wireless speed with RT-87U 802.11ac router shows that the speed
is only 27.3 megabits per second which is very low for an 802.11ac card:

  iperf -c rtr

Client connecting to rtr, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)

  [ 3] local 10.10.10.78 port 48930 connected with 10.10.10.1 port 5001
  [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
  [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 32.6 MBytes 27.3 Mbits/sec

For comparison, on the same network (from the same distance to the
router) I have the following result with an Intel's card (on a 4.8
  kernel, different laptop):

  UX32LN:~$ lspci | grep 7260
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev bb)

  UX32LN:~$ iperf -c rtr

Client connecting to rtr, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)

  [ 3] local 10.10.10.208 port 37196 connected with 10.10.10.1 port 5001

  [ 3] 0.0-10.1 sec 237 MBytes 198 Mbits/sec
  administrator@UX32LN:~$ lsp

  200 Mbps is much better.

randomly after connecting USB devices directly or via a hub. Random USB
crashes occur more frequently than with Ubuntu 16.10, but less often
than with < 16.10.

This might be related to Firefox UI freezing and becoming unresponsive
(while the process state is sleeping and the `rtsx_usb_ms_1`
process/kernel thread is unresponsive constantly).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1670041] Re: Poor performance of Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac (rev 32) (Killer Wireless 1535)

2017-06-04 Thread Michael Wisniewski
Just adding that I have the same problem on a Dell XPS13 9630 with the
same wifi card. Interesting though that iperf will show poor
performance (10Mbit/s) but web based speedtest pages show 150Mbps.
Windows will also show about 100Mbit/s with iperf running while Ubuntu
will show just 10Mbit/s.

Poor performance of Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac (rev 32) (Killer Wireless

TL;DR with a bit of intuition:
We need a new firmware-5.bin from Qualcomm Atheros for this rev 32 card in
order to make it work well - if anybody has contacts there it would be nice to
ask them to upload this to the upstream linux-firmware tree.

  I experience a very poor 802.11ac performance of a QCA6174 Wireless card
(Killer Wireless 1535).

This is a dev version of Zesty with a recently released 4.10 kernel:

Testing wireless speed with RT-87U 802.11ac router shows that the
speed is only 27.3 megabits per second which is very low for an
  802.11ac card:

  iperf -c rtr

Client connecting to rtr, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)

  [ 3] local 10.10.10.78 port 48930 connected with 10.10.10.1 port 5001
  [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
  [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 32.6 MBytes 27.3 Mbits/sec

For comparison, on the same network (from the same distance to the
router) I have the following result with an Intel's card (on a 4.8
  kernel, different laptop):

  UX32LN:~$ lspci | grep 7260
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev bb)

  UX32LN:~$ iperf -c rtr

Client connecting to rtr, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.0 KByte (default)

  [ 3] local 10.10.10.208 port 37196 connected with 10.10.10.1 port 5001
  [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
  [ 3] 0.0-10.1 sec 237 MBytes 198 Mbits/sec
  administrator@UX32LN:~$ lsp
  lspci lspcmcia lspgpot

  200 Mbps is much better.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1227996] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13] ubuntu doesn't know about Yoga screen rotation keycodes: atkbd serio0: Use 'setkeycodes e03e ' to make it known.

2017-06-04 Thread Ariel Tankus
Same bug affects me (Linux phg 4.9.0-3-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.25-1
(2017-05-02) x86_64 GNU/Linux).

As a simple bypass, add Donn's suggestion to /etc/rc.local :
/usr/bin/setkeycodes e03e 255

After reboot, no more messages of this type in the log files.

As can be seen, this occurs frequently. It might be related, but at
times, the keyboard freezes for a few seconds and then starts sending
a repeating character while no keys are pressed. This behavior is not
stopped unless a key (any key) is pressed.

The character that is output is a special character, but I don't know
  what combination it is specifically.

This might be related to the fact that this is a lenovo yoga 13
  ideapad.
