[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1705900] Re: Lenovo e73 USB webcam problems
Is the webcam in question Microsoft® LifeCam HD-3000? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705900 Title: Lenovo e73 USB webcam problems Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm experiencing problems with USB webcam on Lenovo e73 with Ubuntu 16.04.2 Xenial 32bit. Originally with 4.4 connecting the camera often resulted in complete hang of the system (apparently not even SysRq worked, though I did not test that personally since it is a system I'm administering remotely for a family member). There was always a null pointer dereference just before the hang, so I suspect that is the culprit (see the attached kernel log). After some updates the system no longer hangs. I suspect this was fixed by going from linux 4.4 to 4.8. However, the webcam still often doesn't work and most application just return error. This is usually fixed after several tries, but sometimes it is necessary to reboot computer. Updating BIOS didn't help. The kernel logs still contain the same null pointer dereference with exactly the same stack trace for both 4.8 and 4.10. --- ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.10 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC2: user 1852 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: user 1852 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: user 1852 F pulseaudio DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=de34a223-a620-435a-974a-e29dad30f1ac InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-05-05 (85 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Release i386 (20151021) IwConfig: tun0 no wireless extensions. enp2s0no wireless extensions. lono wireless extensions. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1685442] Re: Errors: flip_done timed out during boot-up; slow boot
This bug affected me with Ubuntu 17.04 on a Dell D630 laptop as well. I applied the workaround that was suggested on the mentioned Arch forum thread (disabling S-video). Add "video=SVIDEO-1:d" to the kernel boot options in /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=SVIDEO-1:d" Then run "sudo update-grub" and reboot. It cut my boot time from two minutes to 40 seconds. I have no S-video connector anyway, so this works for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1685442 Title: Errors: flip_done timed out during boot-up; slow boot Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I had been running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on many laptop computers (especially Dell D620, D630, E6400) with no problem. I created a Live USB with Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS and tried it on a Dell D630. It was very slow to boot up (about 90 seconds) as opposed to the 30-45 seconds it usually takes. For a few seconds there were error messages that included the phrase "flip_done timed out". When the Ubuntu desktop appeared, the mouse cursor hung for a while, but then came back to life. I didn't do much testing from there. I did a Live session with the 16.04.2 LTS on a different D630 laptop, and the same problem occureed. I Googled the problem, and found several hits. - On an Arch forum, someone reported the problem on a Dell D630, like mine. It also occured on other laptops: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=218581 The suggestion was that the bug was related to kernel version 4.8.x and the 965GM chipset, which is what the D630 has. So I tried Ubuntu Mate 16.04.2 on a Dell D620 (with a 945GM chipset) and the problem DID NOT occur. --- For a similar boot-up problem, Ubuntu Forum suggested going back to an earlier version of Ubuntu. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2348892 I tried Ubuntu Mate 16.04.1 (with the 4.4.0-31-generic kernel), and the problem did NOT occur. LY- 2017-05-22 08:40:16 == ---Problem Description--- - Issue 1: ibmveth doesn't support largesend and checksum offload features when configured as "Trunk". Driver has explicit checks to prevent enabling these offloads. - Issue 2: SYN packet drops seen at destination VM. When the packet originates, it has CHECKSUM_PARTIAL flag set and as it gets delivered to IO server's inbound Trunk ibmveth, on validating "checksum good" bits in ibmveth receive routine, SKB's ip_summed field is set with CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY flag. This packet is then bridged by OVS (or Linux Bridge) and delivered to outbound Trunk ibmveth. At this point the outbound ibmveth transmit routine will not set "no checksum" and "checksum good" bits in transmit buffer descriptor, as it does so only when the ip_summed field is CHECKSUM_PARTIAL. When this packet gets delivered to destination VM, TCP layer receives the packet with checksum value of 0 and with no checksum related flags in ip_summed field. This leads to packet drops. So, TCP connections never goes through fine. - Issue 3: First packet of a TCP connection will be dropped, if there is no OVS flow cached in datapath. OVS while trying to identify the flow, computes the checksum. The computed checksum will be invalid at the receiving end, as ibmveth transmit routine zeroes out the pseudo checksum value in the packet. This leads to packet drop. - Issue 4: ibmveth driver doesn't have support for SKB's with frag_list. When Physical NIC has GRO enabled and when OVS bridges these packets, OVS vport send code will end up calling dev_queue_xmit, which in turn calls validate_xmit_skb. In validate_xmit_skb routine, the larger packets will get segmented into MSS sized segments, if SKB has a frag_list and if the driver to which they are delivered to doesn't support NETIF_F_FRAGLIST feature. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1707487] [NEW] Bluetooth speaker only plays as mono
Public bug reported: When I connect my Sony SRS-X1 Bluetooth speaker to Ubuntu, it only plays back as "mono" and refuses to use "hi fidelity". I have Windows 10 installed on the same laptop and when I've used the Bluetooth speaker in Ubuntu, Windows will "forget" the speaker on its Bluetooth list. I have to hold in the "reset" button on the speaker itself and re-add the speaker to Windows 10. Using this kernel, the Oracle Java browser plugin always crashes during stack-related actions on initialization. This means, the plugin completely stopped working. It works perfectly fine in linux-image-4.4.0-79-generic (vurlerable to CVE-2017-1000364) as well as linux-image-4.11.6-041106-generic, which also contains a fix for CVE-2017-1000364. uname -a: > Linux Zweiblum 4.4.0-81-generic #104-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 14 08:17:06 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I tested Oracle Java 1.8 u131 as well as 1.6 u64 in Firefox 51.0.1 as well as Iceweasel / Firefox/3.5.16 in a chroot. Using linux-image-4.4.0-81-generic it crashes in all combinations while with both other kernels it works. I was not able to obtain any detailed crash information from Firefox 51.0.1, but Iceweasel 3.5.16 crashed completely, allowing me to obtain a stack trace which shows the relation to stack operations performed by the plugin, even without proper debug symbols: > (gdb) bt full > #0 0x7fa06d805307 in _expand_stack_to(unsigned char*) () from /opt/java-8-oracle/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so > No symbol table info available. > #1 0x7fa06d8053ae in os::Linux::manually_expand_stack(JavaThread*, unsigned char*) () >from /opt/java-8-oracle/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so > No symbol table info available. > #2 0x7fa06d80cf0b in JVM_handle_linux_signal () from /opt/java-8-oracle/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so > No symbol table info available. > #3 0x7fa06d802e13 in signalHandler(int, siginfo*, void*) () from /opt/java-8-oracle/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so > No symbol table info available. > #4 I first assumed a bug in the Java plugin, but it works fine in Linux 4.11.6. The crash will be triggered by any applet, for example the test applet at: * https://java.com/en/download/installed8.jsp I'm running the Ubuntu 16.04 based KDE Neon distribution which somehow apparently does not allow me to use apport to report this bug: > $ LANG= apport-cli linux-image-4.4.0-81-generic > > *** Collecting problem information > > The collected information can be sent to the developers to improve the > application. Please remove any third party package and try again. If someone can tell me how to get apport working for this package, I can use it to collect additional information, but (unfortunately?) the problem should be fairly easy to reproduce... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1700657] Re: Touchpad not detected in Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB
I have managed to get my Yoga 720 15"'s touchpad working in Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu) It's a fairly straightforward issue + patch (missing PCI ID) Need to re-compile intel-lpss-pci module On this line: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/mfd /intel-lpss-pci.c#L224 Add "{ PCI_VDEVICE(INTEL, 0xa162), (kernel_ulong_t)_uart_info }," Recompile and install the new intel-lpss-pci module and touchpad will work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700657 Title: Touchpad not detected in Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB Status in Linux: Unknown Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Touchpad is not automatically detected in 14.04, 16.04 or 17.04.
