Title:
Bluetooth applet (OBEX send/browse) does not work since Natty (after
  bluetoothd 4.84 exactly)

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Expired
Status in gnome-bluetooth package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have Ubuntu Natty 11.04 and a Nokia N81 (Symbian S60v3.1). In Ubuntu
10.04 (Lucid) and 10.10 (Maverick) bluetooth file transfers do work
fast and stable on my hardware. Since Natty it stopped working all
  together!

UPDATE 26-2-2012: everything works again if the executable
/usr/sbin/bluetoothd (4.91 in Natty) is replaced with 4.84 or earlier.
I verified this workaround on several machines and with the Live-CD of
Natty. Precise alpha 2 is affected too. (see also my comment 30 below)

The attachment shows the output of "sudo hcidump -XYt" when browsing
  fails (bluetooth-applet - menu - - Browse files...)

Running " bluetooth-applet -d" in a terminal and trying to browse and send
files shows this:

Title:
Nec/Renasas 27xxx2 May also need Quirk in 17.04, no problem in 16.04?
  Logitech C920 Webcam/Zoneminder/Startech

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In trying to build a zoneminder server, I think I stumbled on a kernel
bug. It seems to have snuck in sometime between 16.04 desktop
promoted to server, and 17.04 server promoted to desktop.

The suggestion is that the very popular Nec/Renasas 27xxx2 may need
  "quirk" in the kernel.

  Timeline:

  (Scene 1)

  Loaded 16.04 Ubuntu Desktop
  Promoted Desktop to Studio
  Promoted Desktop to Server
  Added Zoneminder
Needed more cams, added Startech PEXUSB3S44V NEC/Renesasa 27XXX2 based card
for more USB channels.
Everything worked quite well. Some errors in ZM but no DMESG as far as I
recall.

  (Scene 2)
  Wiped the drive.
  Loaded 17.04 Server
Now getting messages in DMESG complaining of thousands of errors:
  [96415.044917] handle_tx_event: 516 callbacks suppressed
[96415.044924] xhci_hcd :0c:00.0: WARN Successful completion on short TX:
needs XHCI_TRUST_TX_LENGTH quirk?

Messages suggest "quirk" is the solution.
  a)Researched usb 3.0 "quirk'
  b)Noticed it's really a "thing"
c)Couldn't find recipe for patching kernel for NEC/Renases "quirk" fix.

  (Scene 3)
Anecdotes suggest Nec/Renasas firmware is to blame.
  a) Kernel indicates 2024 firmaware
  b) Startech website has 2026 firmware.
  c) VERY IMPORTANT! WindowCentric GUI instructions do not translate between
ASCII and HEX. So if your Startech is on channels 9, 10, 11, and 12 from
perspective of Windows, you must translate into 09, 0A, 0B, and 0C when editing
runfile for effective firmware update of all 4 controllers. Yes, for the 4
channel controller, count them: 4.
  d) Firmware updated.

  (Scene 4)
Rebooted with new Startech/Nec/Renases 2026 firmware.
  SAME OLD PLETHORA OF ERRORS

  (Scene 5)
  I give up.

It may well be worth noting that there are no errors from DMESG until some
seconds after the first webcam is attached to the Startech.

And I can't overemphasize the fact that I don't think I had any DMESG errors
under Desktop 16.04

I think the file attached represents DMESG immediately before the
errors start going nuts. My theory is that ZM does lazy polls on
missing cams but once it gets 'hold if the cam and sucking data the
  quirk bug surfaces.

2017-08-13 Thread Alan Reynolds
I am having the same Issue with my wireless card and it is very
frustrating. it will just disconnect me randomly and the only fix seems
to be ti reboot. under windows it worked flawlessly, for some reason
under latest ubuntu build, its random. doesnt mean im going back to
windows as 20 quick linux reboots is still faster than one windows
reboot, it is annoying and wish there was a fix. any help would be
greatly appreciated.

  I have a gigabyte P57 laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.8.x. My
brightness control keys (fn+F3, fn+F4) are not getting detected. After
reading about how keypresses are handled by the Linux kernel, I used
showkey to check the scancodes of these keys. I did not get any
output. Similarly no output from xev, evtest and acpi_listen.

Just for your reference, other keys like volume up (fn+F9) are working
alright.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1579748] Re: rtsx_usb module for Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5129 Card Reader Controller: mmc errors and read data corruption

2017-08-13 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Please try kernel in http://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/lp1579748/

svasiljev, can you also try it? Hopefully it didn't bring any regression
to the "new" RTS5129.

Title:
rtsx_usb module for Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5129 Card Reader
Controller: mmc errors and read data corruption

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
RTS5129 Card Reader has issues with rtsx_usb module on kernels >=3.16
(since kmod-staging rts5129 module replaced with rtsx).

Copying files from FAT32 SDHC memory card produces error messages in syslog:
  May 9 05:39:15 dev-laptop kernel: [ 134.762713] mmcblk0: error -110 sending
stop command, original cmd response 0x900, card status 0x900
  May 9 05:39:15 dev-laptop kernel: [ 135.427035] mmcblk0: error -110 sending
stop command, original cmd response 0x900, card status 0x900
  May 9 05:39:16 dev-laptop kernel: [ 136.030041] mmcblk0: error -110 sending
stop command, original cmd response 0x900, card status 0x900

Also these errors indicate that copied files are corrupted - md5sum
shows different checksums for copied file after each "insert card/copy
file/check md5sum/eject card" cycle (actually you can skip "copy file"
step and run "check md5sum" step directly with file on mounted memory
  card filesystem).

Running sudo badblocks -n /dev/mmcblk0 produces same error messages
and prints a lot of random block numbers.

  Hardware:
   - dell inspiron 7720 laptop (a few different RAM modules and HDD drives used
for testing);
   - Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5129 Card Reader (ID 0bda:0129);
   - Transcend 32Gb SDHC Memory card Class 10 UHS-I.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1708043] Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen5 fails to resume

2017-08-13 Thread AaronMa
Got feedback from Lenovo:

We received positive feedback from our firmware team about this issue,
can you ask the user to try it?

//

We've seen a similar issue. This issue happened when BIOS setup Wake on LAN is
disabled.
We will release new ECFW to solve this issue, but you may avoid this issue by
enable Wake on LAN so far.

on Amlogic S912 and install Mate desktop, the kernel I use is 4.9.26. But when
I move the window there is a big lag, the window can not follow my mouse. But I
run Ubuntu 16.04 with the same kernel 4.9.26 on Amlogic S912, it works well.

Yo!

I've just found that stuff on the internet and completely fell in

From: Bug 315762 [mailto:315...@bugs.launchpad.net]
Sent: Sunday, August 13, 2017 7:33 AM
To: oscurosp...@yahoo.com
Subject: Leave their church.

I agree with you on the point that a 16GB device is a slight ripoff,
but I don't agree that a lawsuit is required. This lawsuit is silly.
My first smartphone was a 8GB Motorola device. Once set up, I had
3.3GB left. Would I sue over this? No, because it's silly. If we
started lawsuits over advertised storage, Android would have one
against them a long time ago.

Title:
Crash after startup with connected USB-Hub

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Using Ubuntu Gnome 17.4, 4.10.0-32-generic.
  Connected device:
USB-C Hub (BQEEL-HUB-GN30E-Gray-EU) witch has several USB ports, HDMI,
Ethernet and SD-Card readers.

On startup with the USB-hub connected, right after login the system freezes
or jumps back to splash screen and then freeze or black screen. System is not
responding anymore, only option is to reset.
It does not matter if any device is connected to the usb-hub, the result is
always the same. The hub itself works as expected if I connect it after
startup, no crashes.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1708043] Re: Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen5 fails to resume

2017-08-13 Thread AaronMa
I did change all the setting in security level when I uploaded in comment #28.
It didn't make any differences on tbt or suspend.
Anyway I upload dmesg again.

The only failure in log is:

Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen5 fails to resume

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Last week it worked fine, this week however if I open the lid for it
to resume the power light flashes for a bit, then comes on solid, the
but screen stays blank and the machine is unresponsive. I have to
power it off / on again in order to use it. It might be related to the
APST issue with Samsung NVMe SSDs, I'm not sure.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1585434] Re: ecryptfs_decrypt_page: Error attempting to read lower page; rc = [-4]

2017-08-13 Thread peT
Archlinux user here, I get the same error message under 4.12.4-1-ARCH, so this
bug is not Ubuntu-specific.
Saw the message after a crashed session, but unfortunately I am not sure
whether there was a relation.

I dont' have this issue showing in dmesg when using 3.19 kernel, only
with later kernels. Is it related to selecting encrypted home on
  install or something?

I don't notice any issues with performance because of it or have any
other error messages. I am using default ubuntu xenial 16.04 with

Crash after startup with connected USB-Hub

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Title:
Crash after startup with connected USB-Hub

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Title:
Crash after startup with connected USB-Hub

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Title:
Crash after startup with connected USB-Hub

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1697567] Re: something prevents the cooler fan from spinning as fast as needed

2017-08-13 Thread teo1978
The importance of this bug should obviously be critical, not medium.
It meets all the criteria, plus it may even cause hardware damage.

Title:
something prevents the cooler fan from spinning as fast as needed

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Something in Ubuntu keeps my laptop's cooler fan from going at the
speed that would be needed to keep the temperature within its safe
  range.

The proof that something is wrong is that the computer overheats to
the point that, first, the CPU starts to slow down to protect itself
(you can tell the CPU has less power because trivial processes that
barely do any work suddenly are consuming great percentages of CPU)
and eventually even the computer shuts down (abruptly) to prevent
itself from burning **AND** the fan speed doesn't get even close to
its maximum speed while all this is happening.

Note: I keep thermald turned off because of issue 1600599. I also disabled
intel_powerclamp and intel_rapl to rule out that they were just kicking in
before it's actually necessary.
This has mitigated the issue, I'm pretty sure, but it has not solved it
completely.

Yes, my fan is full of dust and doesn't do its job very well, but if
that alone was the issue, the fan should reach its top speed well
before the CPU reaches critical temperature.

The definitive proof that the fan *can* go faster is that, when the
computer is overheating, if I restart it, at the grub screen, the fan
spins a lot faster. Then, as the OS boots, its speed drops. Then you
can also hear as the speed slowly diminishes, as if it was gradually
slowing down because it's managing to keep the temperature under
control. Except that the temperature keeps going up.

Even by just suspending and resuming, the fan speed gets a noticeable
boost (not as huge as by rebooting, for some reason), which is utter
nonsense, and then soon slows down again.

The huge increase in fan speed at restart just before boot (note: only
when the computer is hot) proves that not only the fan can spin faster
than the OS lets it, but also that the hardware "KNOWS" how fast it
should spin. Either the hardware, assuming that no driver has been
loaded yet when presented the grub screen, or some kind of more
primitive driver that is loaded together with grub, I don't know.
SOMETHING does know how to control the fan speed properly, and
something that is started during boot imposes a wrong, lower speed.

I assume that the fan speed is not regulated by a simple fixed map from
temperature values to fan speed values. That would completely explain the
behaviour (the fan is not as efficient as it is supposed to be, hence the
predetermined speed values function of temperature are not enough), but it
would be incredibly stupid. Please tell me that's not the case.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1627828] Re: iwl3945 crashes randomly

2017-08-13 Thread Sebastian Muniz
Hello,
I am adding some experience and a new dump.
Trying to get more data, I build my own kernel from ubuntu sources, leaving
JUST iwl3945, and enabling debugging.
I still have the issue.
However, I notice the ... crash? happens more often if I am far/low signal.
While I am near the AP, the occurrence is quite low.
I now read there is a suggestion to turn off power save, and I will do for
further tests.
In case it is relevant, here is my .config: https://pastebin.com/kJMrQSqr

Title:
Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen5 fails to resume

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Last week it worked fine, this week however if I open the lid for it
to resume the power light flashes for a bit, then comes on solid, the
but screen stays blank and the machine is unresponsive. I have to
power it off / on again in order to use it. It might be related to the
APST issue with Samsung NVMe SSDs, I'm not sure.
