[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1728244] Re: Touchpad stops working after reboot on Apollo Lake

2017-11-18 Thread iBART
So... we have to wait for this 4.15 kernel in mainline. For now, my
touchpad does not work. I bought a wireless mouse. I'll use this, until
this problem is solved. But I don't think we are gonna solve this :p

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1729337] Re: CIFS errors on 4.4.0-98, but not on 4.4.0-97 with same config

2017-11-18 Thread FedeX
Hi @jsalisbury,

Sorry been flat out with work!

Sure can help with that, just to double check please, do I need to
download and install all 8 deb packages in?:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1729337

Because I don't think I've ever used/installed the cloud-tools in any of
my servers though, they are all running in VMWare hypervisor if that
helps

Cheers
FedeX

  == SRU Justification ==
The bug reporter stated they have a cluster of servers that applied Xenial
updates
and then were unable to mount CIFS shares after upgrading to 4.4.0-98. The
same machines on 4.4.0-97 do not hit the regression. It was found that the
regression is fixed by mainline commit:
4587eee04e2a ("SMB3: Validate negotiate request must always be signed").

This fix is required in all Ubuntu supported releases. Commit 4587eee04e2a
landed in mailine as of 4.14-rc7. It was also cc'd to upstream stable,
but it has not landed in any stable releases yet, which is the reason for
  this SRU.

  == Fix ==
  commit 4587eee04e2ac7ac3ac9fa2bc164fb6e548f99cd
  Author: Steve French
  Date: Wed Oct 25 15:58:31 2017 -0500
SMB3: Validate negotiate request must always be signed

  == Regression Potential ==
This patch is to fix a regression. It was also cc'd to upstream stable, so
  it received addition review upstream.

We have a cluster of servers that applied a security update overnight
and were unable to mount CIFS shares after upgrading to 4.4.0-98. The
same machines on 4.4.0-97 were fine the night before, and are fine
after downgrading. The only error message CIFS would report, even on
  verbose, was:

[ 257.089876] CIFS VFS: validate protocol negotiate failed: -11
  [ 257.089964] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -5

Rebooting did not help. Nor did attempting to mount the share
  manually using mount -t cifs.

Here's the offending line from our /etc/fstab (with hostnames
  sanitized):

  //server/share /mnt/share cifs
rw,user,credentials=/etc/samba/credentials.share,uid=33,gid=33,file_mode=0770,dir_mode=0770
  ,exec,soft,noserverino,vers=3.0 0 0

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1733070] Re: ntp apparmor profile problem

2017-11-18 Thread Paul M
I will try collecting the log again. It's easy enough to undo the fix.

I can verify this bug. 4.10.0-38-generic didn't work but
4.10.0-28-lowlatency did.

Title:
USb-Ethernet ASIX A88772 stops working after kernel 4.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have an USB-Ethernet dongle ASIX AX88772 USB 2.0 Ethernet, which
uses the asix.ko module. I just updated from Ubuntu 16.04 to 16.10
then 17.04. When I updated to 17.04 it just stopped initializing the
dongle; in ethtool and mii-tool it shows no link detected, although it
is connected and works in dual-booted Windows. I ruled out
networkmanager idiosyncrasies of "managed" and "not managed" because I
configured it both ways and tried also with ifupdown and directly with
ifconfig up and dhclient. And then I changed the model to another
ethernet USB adapter and it worked.

This is the dmesg entry for the ASIX adapter:
  [ 31.137223] usb 1-6: New USB device found, idVendor=0b95, idProduct=772a
  [ 31.137225] usb 1-6: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,
SerialNumber=3
  [ 31.137226] usb 1-6: Product: AX88x72A
[ 31.137227] usb 1-6: Manufacturer: ASIX Elec. Corp.
  [ 31.137228] usb 1-6: SerialNumber: 02

Model no: KY-AX88772ALF on the side of the device.

I am currently reporting this bug without the adapter connected, because I
would have no network. So if you need additional data from it just say what you
need, I am using Ubuntu 17.04 64 bits.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-11-18 Thread stark
Still Happens in 4.10.0-38-generic.

I love ubuntu so much that I have installed as second operating system
in my macbook pro. In MacOs I used to connect to Bluetooth speaker with
out any problem and audio plays without any stuck or anyting.

Here in Ubuntu its not even connecting properly in native bluetooth. I
have installed Blueman and able to connect after many tries and even
after that I am not able to play anything properly.

Ubuntu team please fix this issue. I cant able to full use Ubuntu as my
primary machine.

Dont make me hate ubuntu.

This issue does not exist with 15.10. All updates have been installed
on 16.04 including backports but they have not fixed the issue.

It is not browser specific and not website specific.

It is not hardware specific as it affects my laptop with an intel 7260

The issue exists on both ubuntu and kubuntu 16.04.

I have reported it on the ubuntu support forums and after
investigation a moderator noticed changed in the kernel from 4.4 and
4.2 that may becausing the issue and asked me to file a bug report.

indigocat, it will help immensely if you use the computer the problem is
reproducible with, file a new report with Ubuntu by first ensuring the package
xdiagnose is installed, click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging
information after running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

[Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13] Stuck keys

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
On the Lenovo Yoga 13 some keys, when being held down, are not
released (e.g. pagedn, up arrow, etc.). Once this happens, the mouse
cursor also starts scrolling in some or other direction (it can be
moved with the track-pad, but keeps moving in that direction).

Using an external keyboard fixes the problem.

At startup, the keyboard complains about unknown key events, but I
  silence those using

  sudo setkeycodes e03e 255
  sudo setkeycodes e060 255

The behavior described here happens irrespective of whether these
  commands were executed.

My temporary work-around is to put the machine to sleep; after wakeup
  the keyboard works fine again.

  https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-FX553VD/HelpDesk_BIOS/ )

  Kernel : 4.14.0-041400-generic x86_64

I can't control keyboard LED backlight level with it's dedicated FN
keys or anything else. FN keys are recognized by Linux Mint 18.2 and
Ubuntu 16.04 but pressing them have no effect.

Kernels from 4.10 to 4.14 are the same on that regard.

And also i have these errors on "inxi -F && dmesg | grep -i error"

[0.031175] ACPI Error: [PRT0] Namespace lookup failure, AE_ALREADY_EXISTS
(20170728/dswload-378)
[0.040665] ACPI Error: 1 table load failures, 10 successful
(20170728/tbxfload-246)
[0.506425] acpi PNP0A08:00: _OSC failed (AE_ERROR); disabling ASPM
[1.694527] RAS: Correctable Errors collector initialized.
  [9.833145] EXT4-fs (sda2): re-mounted. Opts: errors=remount-ro

I'm not a developer but only a user. So if i opened that issue to the
wrong place can you point me the correct place to open it?

  Thanks.

Desktop (screen) corrupted after upgrade to 17.10

Status in ubuntu-mate:
  Invalid
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I upgraded my NC10 netbook from Ubuntu Mate 16.04 to 17.04 (which worked
okay) and then to 17.10. When starting up and automatically logging in I can
see the right hand quarter of the screen but the left three quarters are mostly
black with multicolour icons repeated across the top 3mm, a light grey bar
below this 8mm high with a darker grey interruption just over half way across
and two small horizontal white lines directly below this. The mouse pointer is
displayed where ever it is positioned and the right hand menus work as
expected. The computer is unusable in this condition.
Dropping to a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1 has the same screen corruption and
the prompt is spread across multiple lines as a series of dots and dashes -
completely unreadable. It seems the video driver is not working for this
machine in this release. The previous release showed it was using the standard
Intel open source drivers. Issue persists when PC rebooted. Power up shows
Samsung boot screen then light grey screen with small dark grey border then the
corruption described above grey background and green pattern (probably the boot
image corrupted then clearing to corruption over black background then to the
state described, i.e. mostly black with a bit of desk top and some corrupted
stuff at top.

I can probably ssh in to this machine to grab logs as required so
please let me know what I can do to help debug and get my laptop back
  working.

Computer is a Samsung NP-NC10 with 1GB RAM and Intel Atom CPU.
(Sorry I didn't find time to test the beta!!!)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1728565] Re: Desktop (screen) corrupted after upgrade to 17.10

2017-11-18 Thread riban
Requested logs uploaded. Note: This was done after suspend / resume
cycle with the fault cleared because apport-collect requires web browser
confirmation, hence I needed to gain desktop access. I could re-run
apport-collect (now that permission has been granted to launchpad) from
ssh session if required. Previous comment instructed to set status to
confirmed but I don't think I have rights to do that.

Title:

Title:

2017-11-18 Thread riban
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected artful

** Description changed:

I can probably ssh in to this machine to grab logs as required so please
let me know what I can do to help debug and get my laptop back working.

Computer is a Samsung NP-NC10 with 1GB RAM and Intel Atom CPU.
(Sorry I didn't find time to test the beta!!!)

Ubuntu 17.10 uses linux kernel 4.13 witch has a problem with the fallback
cipher for CTR mode. The commit bellow fixes this problem by using the new
structure for the generic ciphers. Please add it to the kernel package.

Can you try 4.13 final? If it has the bug, we can "Reverse" bisect
between 4.13 final and 4.14-rc1.

4.13 final is available from:

The fact that 4.13.8 doesn't reproduce the bug might be another
indicator that the bug was introduced by a SAUCE patch.

One host that exhibits this behaviour was:

Linux klock 4.4.0-98-generic #121-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 10 14:24:03 UTC
  2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

  guest running:

    Linux version 4.13.0-16-generic (buildd@lcy01-02) (gcc version 7.2.0
  (Ubuntu 7.2.0-8ubuntu2)) #19-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 11 18:35:14 UTC 2017
  (Ubuntu 4.13.0-16.19-generic 4.13.4)

The affected cloud region is running the xenial/Ocata cloud archive,
so the version of qemu-kvm in there may also be relevant.

  Here's how I reproduced it in lcy01:

$ for n in {1..30}; do nova boot --flavor m1.small --image
ubuntu/ubuntu-artful-17.10-amd64-server-20171026.1-disk1.img --key-name
testbed-`hostname` --nic net-name=net_ues_proposed_migration laney-test${n};
done
    $  sudo reboot
    # wait a minute or so for the instances to all reboot
    $ for n in {1..30}; do echo "=== ${n} ==="; nova console-log laney-test${n}
| tail; done

On bad instances you'll see the "soft lockup" message - on good it'll
  reboot as normal.

We've seen good and bad instances on multiple compute hosts - it
doesn't feel to me like a host problem but rather a race condition
somewhere that's somehow either triggered or triggered much more often
by what lcy01 is running. I always saw this on the first reboot -
never on first boot, and never on n>1th boot. (But if it's a race then
  that might not mean much.)

I'll attach a bad and a good console-log for reference.

If you're at Canonical then see internal rt #107135 for some other
  details.

Title:
Touchpad doesn't work after wake from sleep on HP Pavilion x2
  Detachable

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After waking the laptop from screen, the touchpad does not work. It
does not react to single finger movement or tapping, nor to two finger
scroll, nor to pressing down the clickpad left or right. The laptop
has a detachable screen for use as a tablet. After detaching the
screen and reattaching the screen the touchpad works again as
  expected.

I've tried it now a few times and I can reliably reproduce the touchpad
problem as follows:
  - close the lid,
  - wait for the led to indicated sleeping.
  - Open the lid.
  - Hit enter (otherwise the screen stays dark).
  - Enter password to unlock using the keyboard.
  - Try keyboard and touchpad to see whether they work.
  - It they don't work
- Pull the screen off of the keyboard base with the integrated touchpad.
- Reconnect
- Try keyboard and touchpad again

A few attempts below with approximate times. Should be visible in the
  syslog for Nov 18

NB: In one of these tests the keyboard didn't work after
disconnect/reconnect. But that is not a persistent problem. I don't
remember having seen that before, nor was I able to reproduce it a
  second time.

Title:
XPS 13 9360 trackpad locks into scroll mode

Status in Dell Sputnik:
  Confirmed
Status in Linux:
  Unknown
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,

I'm running Linux on a Dell XPS 13 (9360) laptop.

I find that upwards of 10 times per day, my trackpad gets stuck in
"scrolling" mode. Moving the trackpad won't move the X windows
pointer, but will send scrolling events to the foreground window.

When the trackpad is locked in this mode, the touchscreen will still
let me move the mouse cursor, as will an external mouse.

On Ubuntu 16.04 freshly restored from the Dell recovery image, I find
that it's often difficult to get the trackpad to recover.

I do find that the issue happens less frequently on Dell's build of
Ubuntu 16.04 than on other linux distributions and versions, but it
still happens enough to significantly impact my ability to do
  productive work.

The issue does not occur when running Windows 10 on the same device.

I suspect that the issue may be related to palm detection or
misdetecting the user's palm as a gesture to enable scrolling mode,
but have no proof for this.

It seems that I'm often able to reproduce the issue by brushing the
  trackpad with my right palm.

On Ubuntu 16.10, with the latest shipped 4.8 kernel (Linux szx
  4.8.0-30-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Dec 2 03:43:27 UTC 2016 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux), with the extra xinput configuration below, I
am able to get the trackpad to recover, simply by clicking the
  trackpad:

  /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-libinput.conf:

  Section "InputClass"
  Identifier "libinput touchpad catchall"
  Driver "libinput"
  MatchIsTouchpad "on"
  MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
  Option "Tapping" "True"
  Option "DisableWhileTyping" "True"
  Option "NaturalScrolling" "False"
  Option "AccelProfile" "adaptive"
  Option "AccelSpeed" "0.05"
  Option "MiddleEmulation" "True"
  Option "ScrollMethod" "twofinger"
  # Option "ClickMethod" "clickfinger"
  Option "ClickMethod" "buttonareas"
  EndSection

In my experience, the problem manifests using both the Xorg synaptics driver
and the Xorg libinput driver.
