Bug description:
  Installed fresh Bionic, everything works. After a few hours,
  bluetooth stops working on Qualcomm QCA6714, Lenovo Yoga 920.
  Duplicated it twice.

  From CLI, it indicates that everything is unblocked and operational.
  From GUI, can't get BT switch to turn on BT. Nothing I found online
  could fix BT. Requested driver from Qualcomm. No help.

Bug description:
  Hi.

  I'm running Ubuntu MATE 16.04 running kernel `4.4.0-128-generic`.

  Since applying updates this morning I'm now unable to shut my machine
  down cleanly. If I shut down or restart, the error
  `snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: unable to sync register` is output
  3 times and the machine doesn't power down. I have to finish the
  shutdown manually by holding the power button.

  Wasn't sure which debug steps to follow for this error, but this is
  the corresponding extract from `/var/log/kern.log`:

  ```
  I made the report using `ubuntu-bug linux` so hopefully this will
  provide the necessary debug info. If I need to post more info, let me
Title:
  CPU/GPU Fans suddenly go 100% RPM on Asus ROG G752VT
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Bug description:
  After upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04, I've noticed that CPU and
  GPU fans suddenly go full throttle. It doesn't seem to depend on
  temperature, could happen when 32 °C reported, sometimes the laptop
  can work for day or two without this issue, but eventually it happens.
  The only way to stop fans is to power off the laptop, power on (fans
  go 100% at this point again), power off during BIOS splash screen and
  power on again. Seems to happen more often after waking up from a
  sleep.
  Things tried:
  Upgrading BIOS to latest available on ASUS site to the date of
  writing. No change.
  asus-fan kernel module (https://github.com/daringer/asus-fan). Detects
  both fans and shows correct speed in /sys/class/hwmon/*/fan{1,2}*, but
  does not seem to control it and does not prevent going full throttle.
  4.17.0 kernel from Ubuntu mainline builds. Doesn't seem to affect the
  issue.
  Userspace fan control software (https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc).
  Can control speed of both fans to the point where they go full
  throttle, after that has no effect on them.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1775717] Re: CPU/GPU Fans suddenly go 100% RPM on Asus ROG G752VT
2018-08-25 Thread whl2
To my utter disappointment, it happens in both 4.18.5 and 4.4.5. Last
one is really weird - I'm 100% sure that it didn't happen in Ubuntu
16.04. Now I'm going to downgrade the whole distro to 16.04 LTS and see.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1730331] Re: ath10k_pci: firmware crashed!
2018-08-25 Thread royden
For those on Bionic and who recently met the trouble, try down-grading
linux-firmware to 1.73 from 1.73.1. Test.
I have a different wifi chipset and met problems wifi with the update solved by
the downgrading.
 Of course, YMMV. If this helps, then a new bug report must be filed for each
chipset and v1.73.1.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1785171] Re: Intel I219-V Ethernet Interface on Ubuntu Linux Using e1000e Driver keeps Dropping Internet Connection
2018-08-25 Thread og11
Here is the syslog file from Aug. 21 the last time the ethernet
connectivity on the i219-v onboard NIC disappeared and I had to manually
disable and re-enable the network interface.
Let me know if you need anything else.
Title:
  Intel I219-V Ethernet Interface on Ubuntu Linux Using e1000e Driver
  keeps Dropping Internet Connection
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in linux source package in Bionic:
  Incomplete
Bug description:
  I've turned up many, many new server and workstation systems over the
  years on both Linux and Windows. Never seen anything like this
  behaviour I'm witnessing on Ubuntu Server 18.04 before where I simply
  lose Internet connectivity while using a browser.  Ethernet interfaces
  usually either work or they don't work.
  I've configured the Intel I219-V Ethernet interface (wired Ethernet
  connection, there is no wifi on this system) using the e1000e driver
  for Ubuntu.  The Ethernet connection is configured to use
  NetworkManager via Netplan on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Server version.  ASRock
  Z370m Pro4 motherboard.
  The Ethernet interface will drop the Internet connectivity when I'm
  using either the Firefox or Chrome browser.  It usually happens when
  I'm using the search features of the browser. I can't figure out what
  would cause this type of behaviour.  When the Internet connection
  drops, the only way to get back Internet connectivity is to disconnect
  the wired connection using the Ubuntu features and then re-connect
  (this restarts the NetworkManager service I notice).
  In the NetworkManager logs I do notice an "auth" error about a file or
  directory not found. I've never seen that before.
  Note:  The auth error does not coincide with the loss of Internet
  connectivity, but it does proceed it.  Often there can be many hours
  between the auth error and the actual loss of Internet connectivity.
  After I reconnect the connection (via re-starting the NetworkManager
  service) all will be fine for up to a day or so, but then I stress
  test it with a bunch of searches using the browser and usually I can
  get the Internet connectivity to drop again.  Repeat the disconnect
  and reconnect process again (aka re-start NetworkManager) and the
  Internet connectivity will be fine again.  The longest I've seen it go
  without an "Internet connectivity drop" issue is about 36 hours.
  I notice that the e1000e driver does not list the I219-V as a
  supported Ethernet interface in the Intel documentation for the Linux
  version of the driver.  I'm not sure why that is.  The I219-V is
  supposed to used another driver, but it's not clear there's a Linux
  version for of the driver for the I219-V.
  I'm really disappointed that I've run into this issue with Ubuntu
  Server LTS 18.04 on this motherboard.  I had CentOS Server 7.4 (my
  standard server OS, a great Linux distro) on this same motherboard for
  a week with no issues, so I know the motherboard and the I219-V
  Ethernet interface are 100% good hardware wise and can work properly.
  CentOS 7.4 uses NetworkManager as the default for managing the
  Ethernet interface.
  The only reason I'm using Ubuntu Server 18.04 on this motherboard is
  because of a specific package that Ubuntu has a newer packaged version
  than CentOS. CentOS is extremely stable when it comes to basic server
  functionality.
  Hopefully, this bug with the I219-V Ethernet interface using the
  e1000e drive for Linux can be verified and a fix rolled out.
  After upgrading from 4.4.0 to 4.15.0 system doesn't boot - ACPI issue
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  I'm using Xubuntu in an old system, I'm concerned because other users
  looking for a light OS for their old PC wouldn't be able to install or
  boot the 18.04 version and above.
  With kernel 4.4.0 the system boots without problem (xubuntu 16.04),
  after upgrading to kernel 4.15 the system doesn't boot anymore
  (18.04). This issue was present when testing kernel 4.13 too.
  The install crashes with an error: BIOS bug:8254 timer not connected
  to io-apic error on.
  Adding any of these commands to the boot allows the system to load
  properly:
  -acpi=off
  -pci=noacpi
  -acpi=noirq
  I attach the info related.
Title:
  rtl8723be wifi does not work under linux-modules-
  extra-4.15.0-33-generic
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  When starting Xubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on a laptop HP 1S-af023ng with
  kernel 4.15.0-32.35 amd64, wifi via rtl8723be works OK.
  Using actual 4.15.0-33.36 amd64 instead, rtl8723be doesn't find any
  wifi networks and thus there is no connection. Changing the antenna
  setup in /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be_options.conf doesn't help either;
  as a workaround an external wifi device (Gigaset USB Adapter 108)
  works.
  The expectation is that wifi through rtl8723be will still work under
4.15.0-33.36 as it did previously.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1788997] Re: rtl8723be wifi does not work under linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-33-generic
2018-08-25 Thread a
The above diagnosis was performed having started the computer with
4.15.0-33.36 amd64; as a result there was no network connection. To
obtain network connection for submitting the data, a Gigaset USB Adapter
108 has been plugged in prior to running apport-collect 1788997.
Title:
  rtl8723be wifi does not work under linux-modules-
  extra-4.15.0-33-generic
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  When starting Xubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on a laptop HP 1S-af023ng with
  kernel 4.15.0-32.35 amd64, wifi via rtl8723be works OK.
  Using actual 4.15.0-33.36 amd64 instead, rtl8723be doesn't find any
  wifi networks and thus there is no connection. Changing the antenna
  setup in /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be_options.conf doesn't help either;
  as a workaround an external wifi device (Gigaset USB Adapter 108)
  works.
  The expectation is that wifi through rtl8723be will still work under
4.15.0-33.36 as it did previously.
Title:
  rtl8723be wifi does not work under linux-modules-
  extra-4.15.0-33-generic
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  When starting Xubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on a laptop HP 1S-af023ng with
  kernel 4.15.0-32.35 amd64, wifi via rtl8723be works OK.
  Using actual 4.15.0-33.36 amd64 instead, rtl8723be doesn't find any
  wifi networks and thus there is no connection. Changing the antenna
  setup in /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be_options.conf doesn't help either;
  as a workaround an external wifi device (Gigaset USB Adapter 108)
  works.
  The expectation is that wifi through rtl8723be will still work under
4.15.0-33.36 as it did previously.
Title:
  rtl8723be wifi does not work under linux-modules-
  extra-4.15.0-33-generic
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  When starting Xubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on a laptop HP 1S-af023ng with
  kernel 4.15.0-32.35 amd64, wifi via rtl8723be works OK.
  Using actual 4.15.0-33.36 amd64 instead, rtl8723be doesn't find any
  wifi networks and thus there is no connection. Changing the antenna
  setup in /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be_options.conf doesn't help either;
  as a workaround an external wifi device (Gigaset USB Adapter 108)
  works.
  The expectation is that wifi through rtl8723be will still work under
4.15.0-33.36 as it did previously.
Bug description:
  I have the following problem with my Bluetooth module on my new Dell
  XPS 13 (9370) with Ubuntu preinstalled.
  The bluetooth module gets disabled for some reason. The bluetooth
  devices (keyboard and mouse) just stop working in the middle of the
  work, the Bluetooth indicator goes away and the module is also gone in
  the rfkill list.
  To get it back working I need to reboot the machine, start the BIOS,
  disable the Bluetooth module and re-enable it or I have to turn the
  machine completely off and on again. After that, the bluetooth module
  is available again. That's pretty annoying.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1690085]
2018-08-25 Thread zankuro
I have an Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC notebook with Ryzen 7 1700 + Radeon
RX580, and I have soft lockups too. The computer completly freeze when
idle. My system is an Ubuntu 18.04.1. Kernel parameters like
"idle=nomwait" and "rcu_nocbs=0-15" don't fix my problem. Now, I'm using
my computer "without lockups" with cpu governor setted in "performance".
My BIOS, updated to 305, does not have the option "Typical Idle Current"
or similar.
  Depending on the kernel version, we've got NMI watchdog errors related to CPU
stuck (mentioning the CPU core id, which is random).
  Crash is happening randomly, but in general after some hours (3-4h).
  Now, we've installed kernel 4.11.0-041100-generic #201705041534 this morning
and waiting for crash...
  For now, the machine is not "used", at least, it's not CPU stressed...
  Thanks
