[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1760545] Re: [18.04] GLK hang after a while
Hi Guys, This might be a very noob question but, if I'm running Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, how do I install this fix? I noted that the fix is done in linux- oem package but a "sudo apt list --installed" seems to suggest this isn't currently an installed package on my installation? Is it simply a case of either (A) running "sudo apt-get install linux- oem" or (B) Waiting for this to be fixed in 18.04.1 LTS and available via the standard apt-get update / apt-get upgrade mechanism? If this is still to be fixed/released in 18.04.1 LTS, is there a timeline for when the fix would be available? Thanks! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-oem in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1760545 Title: [18.04] GLK hang after a while Status in linux package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in linux-oem package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in linux-oem source package in Bionic: Fix Released Bug description: SRU Justification [Impact] i915 lacks information about the glk_dmc_ver1_04.bin firmware file in modinfo, so it is not included in the initrd along with the i915 driver. Thus the firmware does not get loaded. Loading the firmware is said to prevent a hang. In addition to that, this also causes GLK's HDMI audio codec stops working after S3. [Fix] Add a MODULE_FIRMWARE statement for the firmware. This information is required to let initramfs-tools includes the firmware. [Test Case] Without the firmware there will be a "Direct firmware load for i915/glk_dmc_ver1_04.bin failed with error -2" line in dmesg. With the firmware there is no such message. I can confirm the GLK HDMI audio issue is gone when firmware is loaded. [Regression Potential] Minimal. Will only be loaded by i915 for specific hardware, and loading the firmware is known to fix a hang. --- Description: Platform information: Label: GLK02SDP Processor: Silver N5000 Bios: GELKRVPA.X64.0083.B30.1801162142 OS: Ubuntu 18.04 Kernel: 4.15.0-10-generic Details: Power on, and enter into the system; After a period, sometimes about 20 minutes, sometimes 1 hour, the machine will hang. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1780103] Re: Network namespaces support for non-IP suddenly missing
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780103 Title: Network namespaces support for non-IP suddenly missing Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I run 16.04, and I keep daily track of all dist-upgrades. Yesterday (3 july 2018) there was an upgrade, and it must have been a kernel upgrade, because my machine had rebooted (which I make it do automatically if needed). From today, the system tests on my project have stopped working (C development). These system tests do the following: using the 'ip' command, they set up several network namespaces, in which I run several executables concurrently, that exchange network messages with each other. The namespaces that use IP have kept on working, while the ones that don't (I'm implementing an ethernet network packet structure of my own) have stopped working. I've done the same tests on my laptop, which is also a 16.04, on which I haven't done the upgrade (and I'm very hesitant to do so now, because this is my bread and butter), and there they work still. --- ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.18 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: kees 1919 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/seq:timidity 1084 F timidity DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=3ed19ff5-7945-42ac-a22a-9136402798d8 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-02-06 (148 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release i386 (20160420.1) IwConfig: lono wireless extensions. enp1s0no wireless extensions. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1790861] Re: amdgpu.dc dual monitor issues when trying to sleep / power off the monitors
Same problem here with kernel 4.19 and 4.18, rx580 and vega 8 (ryzen 2200G). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1790861 Title: amdgpu.dc dual monitor issues when trying to sleep / power off the monitors Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a problem with my dual monitor setup on an AMD RX 580: when I lock the screen and Gnome try to power off both monitors the following happens: 1) the second monitor goes to sleep before the first one, this is normal and expected because the first monitor has a longer time to sleep 2) after some seconds the second monitor turn on back again and prevents the first one to sleep at all 3) gnome detects inactivity on the lock screen for some time and try to power off the monitors again 4) step 1 all over again in an infinite loop When I login back from the lock screen the windows inside my Gnome session can sometimes be rearranged from one screen to the other. After discovering this behavior I tried to power off the monitors manually with `xset dpms force off` and I can confirm that the same happens: the monitors wont really power off because the second one turns back on and prevents the first one to sleep. My guess was that somehow when the second monitor was turning off it delivered some kind of "monitors changed, you should reset" message to the GPU which in order did some kind of "reset everything and power on the monitors back again" action. Searching for a fix to this problem I tried to upgrade my amdgpu mesa drivers using the oibaf/graphics-drivers ppa and after this I tried to upgrade my whole distribution too, moving from bionic to cosmic. Nothing worked. In the end I discovered the existence of amdgpu.dc and tried to disable it with `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="amdgpu.dc=0"`, this did the trick but it is still a workaround. I'm not sure this is the right place to report this kind of issues but as the issue is somehow critical (the first I entered the power on/off loop I didn't notice it and my monitor cycled power for two hours) I hope this will help other people. --- ProblemType: Bug AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k4.17.0-9-generic. apport information ** Description changed: Hi there folks sorry if it's inappropriate to report a bug in an upstream release candidate kernel, but as a suggested test / fix for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1796743 I was told to install an upstream kernel, which I did. When I run with that kernel for any length of time, or do anything involving high CPU (like run Firefox for instance) the system fan begins to whine and the system slows down to the point where it finally hangs. I tried to run 'ubuntu-bug linux' from the terminal, but when I do I get the error seen in the screenshot (attached). I'll go back to running 4.18 for now because not being able to sleep the laptop isn't a show stopper, but it's definitely something I consider important for a fully fledged operating system / work environment :) Thanks and please let me know if there's anything I can do to provide more data / help with testing / etc. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-10-07 (14 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Beta amd64 (20180927) Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash Tags: cosmic Uname: Linux 4.19.0-041900rc8-generic x86_64 UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13 + Architecture: amd64 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-10-07 (20 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Beta amd64 (20180927) + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm-256color + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + Tags: cosmic + Uname: Linux 4.19.0-041900-generic x86_64 + UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: + + _MarkForUpload: True ** Attachment added: "ProcCpuinfoMinimal.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799180/+attachment/5206407/+files/ProcCpuinfoMinimal.txt ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799180 Title: Ubuntu 18.10 / Linux 4.19 -rc7/8/Final - System slows / stops Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi there folks sorry if it's inappropriate to report a bug in an upstream release candidate kernel, but as a suggested test / fix for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1796743 I was told to install an upstream kernel, which I did. I'll bet dollars for donuts this is the nouveau driver. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1799875] Re: Kernel Crash - consisten when shutting down the system
Last evening I posted the tail end of the currentDmesg.txt (attached to this ticket) to the linux kernel mailing list. I received back the following [0] The newer kernels (like 4.18) have checks regarding copies to userspace for unwanted kernel memory exposure. The check fails here. This particular copy was initiated by the binary nvidia driver, so unfortunately we cannot help here. So either ask Nvidia for a fix or (if that driver was installed with the Ubuntu software updater) Canonical. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1800238] Re: TechnoTrend TT-TVStick CT2-4400 (v2) stopped working with kernel 4.18
Yes, tried an unsigned kernel of [0] (linux-image- unsigned-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb with linux- modules-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb) and it shows exactly the same behaviour as cosmic's default kernel. Forgot to mention: w_scan closes with error message "ERROR: Sorry - i couldn't get any working frequency/transponder Nothing to scan!!" Unfortunately the Debian installation where everything went fine was on the same SSD I installed Ubuntu, now. So, I can't verify if the firmware I used there was exactly the same. On the other hand, 4.15 (kind of) works with ubuntu cosmic, so, IMHO and speaking as a layman this looks like a regression to me… -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800238 Title: TechnoTrend TT-TVStick CT2-4400 (v2) stopped working with kernel 4.18 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Dear developer(s), I used a vdr-installation on Debian testing, before. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1767614] Re: 18.04 system with nvidia-driver-390 freezes when returning from console
I am also experiencing random system freezes with nvidia-390. Sometimes after just a few minutes, other times after hours of operation. The graphics will start freezing for a few seconds at first. Keyboard and Mouse input starts lagging too. If I don't restart immediately at that point the freezes will continue to become longer and happen in shorter intervals until the GUI doesn't respond at all. If that happens I am also unable to switch to any tty and have to hard reset. The system keeps running underneath though as audio calls continued working despite full graphics freeze. This only happens with nvidia-390. I am unable to test nvidia-396 and above as support for Fermi was dropped. The only thing noticeable are some NVRM messages in the syslog: [3.629809] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 390.77 Tue Jul 10 18:28:52 PDT 2018 (using threaded interrupts) [ 47.315063] NVRM: GPU at PCI::01:00: GPU-58038d8c-f108-4415-84ad-1b98a60c3344 [ 47.315089] NVRM: Xid (PCI::01:00): 16, Head 0001 Count 09f8 [ 55.564951] NVRM: Xid (PCI::01:00): 16, Head 0001 Count 09f9 [ 63.776270] NVRM: Xid (PCI::01:00): 16, Head 0001 Count 09fa These messages also appear randomly on screen when switching to a tty. Interestingly the messages are gone when I boot into recovery mode and then select 'resume normal boot' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767614 Title: 18.04 system with nvidia-driver-390 freezes when returning from console Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Expected behaviour on exiting any console session: 1) the system keeps displaying the console until I manually select a different tty (ALT + F key) 2) I can log in on that tty (text or GUI) without any problem Actual (and consistent) behaviour with nvidia-390 installed: 1) as soon as I enter "exit" on any console, I get kicked out and directed to GDM 2) GDM is completely frozen: the mouse pointer is stuck and most keyboard keys are dead 3) I can enter ALT + Print Screen, but that only makes the screen turn black 4) I need to push the reset button One more detail: the bug is effectively triggered by the act of exiting - as long as all console sessions are kept open, the system behaves as expected. I estimate that this problem is caused by the nvidia driver because: a) I am seeing the same problem on a second computer that has different hardware but that is also using nvidia 390 b) the problem disappears as soon as I switch back to nouveau Unfortunately, dmesg, Xorg.0.log and kern.log do not appear to offer any pointers that might shed more light on this bug. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1795763] Re: xhci_hcd ERROR unknown event type 15
I use: sudo echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:02\:00.0/remove To remove only the affected PCIe card (mine is a PCIe USB 3.1 controller card), and echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/rescan To get it back online. Though it only gets it back temporarily until the event is fired again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1795763 Title: xhci_hcd ERROR unknown event type 15 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: i keep losing connection to USB hub plugged in via PCI express usb 3.0 card. dmesg shows the following error.
