[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1817070] Re: Thunderbolt display not detected
@kaihengfeng Might this also be an USB issue? It seems to me that the root cause is somewhere in the order the USB-C to miniDP is detected. Does it make sense to post the issue there? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1817070 Title: Thunderbolt display not detected Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I am using a Dell XPS 13 (9370) connected to a Caldigit TS3 Plus thunderbolt dock. On this dock I have two monitors connected. One is connected to the display port of the dock, the second one is connected to an USB-C Thunderbolt port using an USB-C to mini DP adapter. The second monitor is only detected, when I _first_ plug in the adapter and _then_ plug in the the cable to the adapter. This also only works when the system has booted _and_ I am logged in. I already disabled thunderbolt security completely in UEFI. Once the monitor has been detected it is also working during boot, when I restart the system. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: max1628 F...m pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: max1628 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: max1628 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: X-Cinnamon DistroRelease: Linux Mint 19.1 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=e6ab437d-a79f-412f-bed4-1a80bbde0736 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-01-05 (47 days ago) InstallationMedia: Linux Mint 19.1 "Tessa" - Release amd64 20181217 MachineType: Dell Inc. Tracking upstream: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109750 ** Description changed: - To me a deal-breaker: I bought the Helix 2 as machine on the dock, and I also bought the one out of the three docks that doesn't need extra driver (so it says), the 4X10H04503. I stuck the tablet into it, with Windows, and the second display came up without any additional driver. - With kubuntu 18.04 I can't make it appear. xrandr doesn't show it. - Now I wonder, where else it might pop up? I mean, the dock works, I ran a unified Logitech receiver on it, and from the first second mouse and keyboard are available to my *buntu installation, of course the grub menu. + https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109750 - I am quite disheartened, since I don't feel like going back to Windows after some 20 years on *nix. - I am willing to help out as much as my very limited abilities allow me to. + --- + + To me a deal-breaker: I bought the Helix 2 as machine on the dock, and I also bought the one out of the three docks that doesn't need extra driver (so it says), the 4X10H04503. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1814481] Re: bluetooth keyboard not working
Thanks. You say 18.10 is broken but 19.04 works, however 'bluez' did not change between those versions. So this sounds more likely to be a kernel bug (which was fixed in later versions). Next step: On the 18.04 installation with the bug, please try some newer kernel versions: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D and try to identify the earliest version where the problem stops happening. ** Package changed: bluez (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Fix Released ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814481 Title: bluetooth keyboard not working Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Bionic: Incomplete Bug description: I recently got a nice mechanical bluetooth keyboard to use on my thinkpad. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1518457] Re: kswapd0 100% CPU usage
Recently got a new laptop with a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 and now updated to kernel 4.19.21-041921-generic. It still happens even with 16 GB of memory and 4GB more in swap on SSD. What is more dangerous is now that laptop has hyperthreading it goes absolutely crazy and heats up insanely. At that point, the system is so frozen no commands can fix it as one never gets to write them. Restarting the machine with a button is the only option. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1518457 Title: kswapd0 100% CPU usage Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Yakkety: Fix Released Bug description: As per bug 721896 and various others: I'm on an AWS t2.micro instance (Xeon E5-2670, 991MiB of memory). Occasionally (about once a day), kswapd0 falls into a busy loop and spins on 100% CPU usage indefinitely. This can be provoked by copying/writing large files (e.g. dding a 256MB file), but it happens occasionally otherwise. System memory usage (not including buffers/caches) currently sits at 36%, which is typical[1]. Initially I had no swap space configured; I've since tried enabling a 256MB swap file, but the problem continues to occur and no swap space is used. The system can be recovered with `echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches`. Happy to provide further information/take further debugging actions. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1654448] Re: Dell XPS 13 9350, 9360 and 9370 headphone audio hiss
You can use bug 1809856 for the 9370. ** Summary changed: - Dell XPS 13 9350, 9360 and 9370 headphone audio hiss + Dell XPS 13 9350/9360 headphone audio hiss -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1654448 Title: Dell XPS 13 9350/9360 headphone audio hiss Status in Dell Sputnik: Confirmed Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Pertaining to 16.04 on a dell XPS 13 9360 ii alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k4.4.0-57-generic. When headphones are plugged in, there is a clearly audible hiss (white noise). This is present as soon as the headphones are plugged in, whether 'headphones' or 'headset' are selected from the pop-up box. Using alsamixer to debug the issue reveals that it is related to "Headphone Mic Boost" - the default setting is: dB gain 0.00, 0.00. If this is changed to: 10.00, 10.00 (one notch up) the hiss disappears. 20.00, 20.00 cause a louder hiss and 30.00, 30.00 causes an even louder hiss with high frequency audio artifacts. When the headphones are removed and plugged back in the Headphone Mic Boost setting returns to dB gain 0 and the problem also returns. This (problem and workaround) has been reported in the wild: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13050843 and https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/4j1zz4/headphones_have_static_noise_with_ubuntu_1604_on/ for example To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1654448/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

At this point the system is getting stuck and nothing else can can be done than holding the power button in for a long enough time to turn it off. At the same time as the system get stuck, a red error light is lightening up on the server. This light is green until it reaches this "Starting Reboot" stage. The same happens if the server is shutdown, with the difference that the last message is "Starting Power-Off" instead of "Starting Reboot". The server is installed with a new clean 18.04 installation. This server was rebooting/shutting down without a problem with all releases between 16.04 and 17.10. @Kai-Heng seems to be working better (not 100%, but much better) using Wayland, but doesn't seem better on x11 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816269 Title: No image on KVM switch Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi all, I have a NUC7i7BNH with the latest BIOS (0062) running Ubuntu 18.04 (uname -r = 4.18.0-15-generic). I have the NUC connected via USB-C to a dual DisplayPort adapter, to an Avocent SV340D KVM. If I have the KVM on the switch for the NUC, everything works great. If I switch the KVM to another channel, and then switch back to the NUC, I only get black screens. The only solution is to hard reboot the NUC. Any help would be appreciated. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1816947] Re: [Dell XPS L321X] Touchpad not working after last apt-get upgrade
opensas, the next step is to fully commit bisect from 4.13.13 to 4.15. This will allow for a direct review of the offending commit for either reverting, or further improvements. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ? This article was written for folks who don't know anything about linux, so it's easy to follow. Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions, or providing a commit without testing it and reverting it is not fully commit bisecting. Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of bisecting. It is most helpful that after the bad commit (not kernel version) has been confirmed via testing, you then mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816947 Title: [Dell XPS L321X] Touchpad not working after last apt-get upgrade Status in libinput package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The touchpad doesn't work unless the cursor is moved slowly. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1815808] Re: Thunderbolt Ethernet high-traffic exception
It's helpful to know that after I lost the USB devices in the kernel exception, I moved the KVM to a builtin USB port. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1815808] Re: Thunderbolt Ethernet high-traffic exception
I got a good example of a v5.0-rc7 kernel exception attached. I can't reproduce them easily, although I could when I first filed my bug report. Now it takes a few hours of full bore Ethernet traffic. This crash I once again lost many/most of my usb devices.
