  Commit:Powercap/intel_rapl driver enabling for Icelake

  Target Release: 19.10
  Target Kernel: 5.1

  SRU Justification
  [Impact]
New CPU is required to be listed in Intel RAPL (Running Average Power Limit)
driver.

  [Fix]
From Intel's suggestion, below 2 commits are required
ba6f3ec198d5 powercap/intel_rapl: add Ice Lake mobile
df7f8e00a50f powercap: intel_rapl: add support for Jacobsville

  [Test]
Boot up Intel ICL-Y SDP with the patched kernel, nothing abnormal, but I'm
unable to distinguish the difference.

  [Regression Potential]
Low, the 2 commits add new ID to the table, should affect new CPU only.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

2019-06-02 Thread HEMANTH KUMAR

r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

Status in Linux:

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in linux source package in Bionic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  ===SRU Justification===
  [Impact]
Ethernet r8169 stops working after system resumed from suspend.

  [Test]
User confirmed these patches fix the issue. r8169 continues to work
  after resume from suspend.

  [Regression Potential]
Medium. The fix is limited to one device, all patches are in mainline.
The WOL default change might cause regression for users that depend on
BIOS settings. We can advice them to use userspace tool (systemd,
  ethtool, etc.) instead.

  ===Original Bug Report===
I have noticed that the network stopped working on my desktop after I've
suspended the system and woke it up. On dmesg there are messages like:

  [ 150.877998] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): enp1s0: link is not ready
  [ 150.944101] do_IRQ: 3.37 No irq handler for vector
  [ 150.944105] r8169 :01:00.0 enp1s0: link down
  [ 150.944180] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): enp1s0: link is not ready

When using Xenial (from a different install), this problem is not
happening. This is happening on Bionic.

There are only two ways to restore connectivity:
  1) Reboot the system;
  2) Remove the r8169 module and reinsert it with modprobe.

The motherboard is a AsRock H55M-LE and the Ethernet controller is:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 03)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1823972] Re: bionic, xenial/hwe: misses "fuse: fix initial parallel dirops" patch

2019-06-02 Thread Kirill Smelkov
Thanks for fixing this issue. We confirm that the problem is gone with
updated kernel.

Title:
bionic, xenial/hwe: misses "fuse: fix initial parallel dirops" patch

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux source package in Bionic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  SRU Justification:

  [Impact]

   * Enabling parallel dirops in fuse (FUSE_PARALLEL_DIROPS) may cause a
race condition that leave fuse inode's mutex held, triggering a
  deadlock

   * The problem is that the lock and unlock paths are relying on
get_fuse_conn(inode)->parallel_dirops to decide if the mutex needs to
be acquired/released, but its value might be set in the lock path and
unset in the unlock path (leaving the mutex held)

  [Test Case]

   * A test case that triggers the bug almost immediately can be found
  here https://github.com/hanwen/go-fuse/pull/288

  [Fix]

   * Instead of relying on get_fuse_conn(inode)->parallel_dirops both in
fuse_lock_inode() and fuse_unlock_inode(), only check this flag in the
locking path and pass a variable to fuse_unlock_inode() to determine
if the mutex was acquired or not

  [Regression Potential]

   * Fix has been tested on the affected platform. It is an upstream fix
that seems to affect only 4.7+ kernels, more exactly in our case only
Bionic kernels (and derived) are affected. Cosmic and above already
include this fix. So regression potential is minimal.

  [Original bug report]

  Hello up there,

We were reported about a deadlock in the kernel while using a FUSE-based
filesystem on Ubuntu.
The kernel in question is Ubuntu-hwe-4.15.0-47.50~16.04.1 from Xenial/HWE. We
tracked this bug to the fact that 4.15.x kernel in Ubuntu does not include the
following patch, in despite the patch being marked as needed for v4.7+ stable
kernels:

  https://git.kernel.org/linus/63576c13bd

Please see the following go-fuse issue for full details:

  https://github.com/hanwen/go-fuse/issues/281#issuecomment-480008562

The bug is potentially applicable to libfuse users too since libfuse
by default enables parallel dirops whenever kernel claims support for
  it, which libfuse maintained confirmed:

  https://github.com/hanwen/go-fuse/issues/281#issuecomment-480013202
  https://github.com/hanwen/go-fuse/issues/281#issuecomment-480510381

We tested that cherry-picking 63576c13bd into 4.15.x series makes the
  problem go away:

  https://github.com/hanwen/go-fuse/issues/281#issuecomment-480499969

So please include https://git.kernel.org/linus/63576c13bd into Ubuntu
4.15.x kernel series which are bionic/master and xenial/hwe, and which
  currently don't have this patch.

Here is a full list of FUSE patches marked to be needed in stable
  kernels starting from v4.15:

  kirr@deco:~/src/linux/linux$ git log --oneline v4.15..v5.1-rc3

8a301eb16d99 fuse: fix congested state leak on aborted connections
df0e91d48827 fuse: atomic_o_trunc should truncate pagecache

Among those only 8a3177db59cd and 2d84a2d19b61 should not be applied
to 4.15.x becuase they cure a problem introduced in a later kernel
(please see got log without --oneline for stable@ details)

However both bionic and xenial/hwe has much less fuse patches applied:

  kirr@deco:~/src/linux/linux$ git log --oneline v4.15..bionic/master --

e992e3521885 fuse: fix control dir setup and teardown

Title:
Suspend fails on Ubuntu 18.04 when mobile network connected and no
  WiFi connection.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Status in modem-manager-gui package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Suspend fails on Ubuntu 18.04 when mobile network connected and no
  WiFi connection.

Ubuntu 18.04, Thinkpad X240, Sierra modem
Reproduced on 4.15 and 4.18 kernel.
The bug is triggered only when there is no WiFi connection. After waking
laptop from suspend ModemManager stops working and after that I cannot suspend
anymore. When it happens mmcli -L gives:

  Found 1 modems:
  /org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/9 [Sierra] MBIM [1199:A001]

  And mmcli -m 9:

Status | lock: 'none'
 | unlock retries: 'sim-pin (3)'
 | state: 'registered'
 |power state: 'on'
 |access tech: 'gprs, lte'
 | signal quality: '0' (cached)

After a few attempts to restart ModemManager and suspend it starts
working. But only for one suspend. After one suspend I need to do the
  whole procedure again.

  Similar to:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1084698/ubuntu-18-04-em7455-works-only-after-suspend
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1774950?comments=all
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1801743

On Ubuntu 16.04 suspend and ModemManager used to work flawlessly.

Bug description:
  Hi,

The current configuration of the linux kernel in Ubuntu is not secure enough.
A simple test [1] of kernel in Ubuntu Disco clearly indicates 53 errors...

Can we discuss possible options to activate by default?

Enable the GCC_PLUGINS* would be for me the bare minimum.

  Thanks. Best regards,

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1713017] Re: Enable MIDI support

2019-06-02 Thread korakios
I tried the latest version (5.50) from

https://launchpad.net/~bluetooth/+archive/ubuntu/bluez

without success. Is bluetooth midi completely disabled on Ubuntu?

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel

Title:
  Enable MIDI support

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Now that bluez has landed with 5.46-0ubuntu2, it would be nice to
enable Bluetooth MIDI support. This did not seem to be enabled by
  default in the build from
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/5.46-0ubuntu2 (it found BLE
MIDI devices, gatttool could talk to them, but no MIDI device was
made; also ldd showed no linkage to libasound.so.2).

After recompiling it with libasound2-dev installed and --enable-midi
  in debian/rules, it worked.

Suggestion: add libasound2-dev to bluez dependencies, add --enable-
  midi to rules.
