[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1885663] Re: RTL8822BE [10ec:b822] Subsystem [103c:831b] wifi regression
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885663 Title: RTL8822BE [10ec:b822] Subsystem [103c:831b] wifi regression Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: This wireless adapter worked well under 18.04.4 (kernel 5.3) but has poor range after installing 20.04 (kernel 5.4). This is testing a 2.4GHz connection. While the received signal strength appears to be the same with either kernel, the transmitted signal is much weaker under the 5.4 kernel (as assessed from the wifi access point running OpenWrt): the 5.4 kernel yields ~10-20 lower dBm than the 5.3 kernel. This greatly reduces the usable wifi range. To summarize testing: 5.3.0-28-generic (Booting off a 18.04.4 live USB) shows good signal. 5.4.0-39-generic (latest supported on 20.04) is problematic 5.6.0-1011-oem (installed from standard repos) is problematic mainline kernel 5.8.0-050800-generic shows good signal. Ideas to further narrow down this regression? I have also tested this using kernel version 5.3, and that seems to «suspend», however, the fan spins like crazy while suspended, and the computer seems to come back instantly when the lid is opened, which seems to indicate it didn´t actually do anything. I have also tested this with 5.7-rc3, both the prebuilt Ubuntu package and compiling from kernel.org sources, and that seems to yield similar results as 5.4. I think the computer recognizes the lid switch correctly, but I wanted to eliminate any possible desktop environment configuration issues which is why I used the command above. More information about this system and issue can be found at https://github.com/MrChromebox/firmware/issues/176 . [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1894407] Missing required logs.
This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'. This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894407 Title: linux-tools: can perf be linked against libbfd, maybe statically? Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The perf tool has an optional dependency on libbfd. Per Debian policy, and due to some situation involving parallel installations of this library, no packages should link dynamically against libbfd. In the past, bugs have been filed to link perf statically against libbfd in bug 783660 (from 2011) and then to just not link against it at all in bug 1748922 (from 2018) and bug 1828234 (from 2019). The argument was made that perf does not need this dependency, as perf can use libiberty as an alternative to demangle C++ names. However, that is not the only thing perf is using libbfd for: the other is to implement an inlined version of addr2line. This was part of an important patchset from 2013 that strove to improve the performance of perf. In my case, I ran my program for all of 30 seconds, generating a 163M large trace, and have been waiting almost an hour for the events to process... and it is only a third of the way done; what I see it doing is spawning, over and over and over again, addr2line, which it wouldn't do if linked against libbfd. https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/patch/413455/ Is it possible to link perf statically against libbfd, in order to let it use the in-process implementation of addr2line? That is the solution that I've understood for other packages, such as oprofile in bug 426614 and bug 588033. Doing a quick grep of the code of perf for HAVE_LIBBFD_SUPPORT, it seems like bpf disassembly support is also dependent on libbfd (and so while it is great that Ubuntu's build of perf has been compiled against libbpf, it seems like that functionality is being hampered by the lack of linking libbfd). That includes the current 4.15 hwe-edge and some of the custom and cloud kernels as well. [Test Case] Install the broadcom-sta package with the 4.15 hwe-edge kernel. The package installation should proceed without any errors. [Regression Potential] Although new patches were added, the regression risk is very low since the new changes are conditionally compiled based on the kernel version. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1894407] [NEW] linux-tools: can perf be linked against libbfd, maybe statically?
Public bug reported: The perf tool has an optional dependency on libbfd. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894407 Title: linux-tools: can perf be linked against libbfd, maybe statically? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1874464] Re: NETDEV WATCHDOG: enp5s0 (r8169): transmit queue 0 timed out
Hi! I'm using a really old kernel with this same error: v3.13.170 with Ubuntu 14.04.6. I could circumvent the issue by reduce the speed of the ethernet interface from 1Gb to 100Mb using ethtool. ethtool –s eth3 speed 100 duplex full autoneg on Maybe it helps to operate until the fix is implemented and released. When I clicked it again to reenable it, my networking did not return. After unsuccessfully poking at it for a while, I rebooted and saw the below (and still no networking). `rmmod r8169; modprobe r8169` had no (apparent) effect, nor did further reboots. I rebooted onto two different kernels, both exhibited the same behaviour: 5.4.0-21-generic, 5.4.0-26-generic. I was finally only able to restore networking by _rebooting into Windows_ and then rebooting back into Ubuntu. (My supposition is that NetworkManager/the kernel set *waves hands* something on the network card that persists across boots when it was disabled, and that wasn't correctly unset when I reenabled networking (or on following boots), but Windows _does_ correctly handle that case on boot, and reset it to a working state.) [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1889114] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Update Breaks KVM Wireless Mouse
Sorry for the delay in responding. We were helping a relative pack and move. The history log had already been moved to a .gz file. The file is attached. It covers the dates from 1 Jul to 22 Jul. ** Attachment added: "history.log.2.gz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1889114/+attachment/5407897/+files/history.log.2.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1889114 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 Update Breaks KVM Wireless Mouse Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I installed Ubuntu 18.04 updates on July 21st. This was a relatively small update with kernel related files from what I remember when installing the update. Since the update, my KVM connected Logitech G305 wireless mouse functionality is broken. The KVM keyboard and display still function correctly. I have 2 computers (desktop and laptop) connected to a KVM switch. The 2 computers are dual boot Ubuntu 18.04 and Windows 7 Pro. This KVM setup has worked since 2015 with versions of Linux Mint 17.x, Ubuntu 18.04, and Windows 7 Pro. The KVM (ConnectPro 14+) • Has a video cable from each computer to the KVM • Has a USB control cable from each computer to the KVM • Has a video cable from the KVM to the display • Has a USB-to-PS/2 adapter connecting the KVM keyboard output to the PS/2 keyboard • Has a KVM USB extension cable with the Logitech G305 wireless mouse receiver plugged into the USB connector. The extension cable is used to locate the receiver in proximity to the wireless mouse. I updated Ubuntu on the desktop on July 21st. Since the update, I have lost wireless mouse functionality to the desktop. But, I still have functionality with Win 7 Pro, and with the Ubuntu 18.04 laptop that was not updated. KVM Wireless Mouse function matrix (see attached image) I replaced the mouse battery, so that is not the problem. I verified that a wired mouse and the wireless Logitech G305 mouse both work properly when plugged directly into a USB port on the M83 desktop. I replaced the wireless mouse with a wired mouse on the KVM mouse input, and the 4 configurations above worked OK (including the desktop with the July updates). So, I think that the July 21st update broke some function(s) in the handling of the wireless mouse USB controls signals between the desktop computer and the KVM switch. 1. Can I provide any additional configuration information, and, if so, what terminal commands should I run? 2. How do I recover from this problem? 3. Can I back-out the update? If so, how will this impact future updates? 4. What else can I try to restore the wireless mouse functionality? Thank you in advance for your assistance. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1894378] Re: Cannot boot after updating kernel to version 5.4.0-45
** Description changed: After the kernel update from version 5.4.0-42 to version 5.4.0-45 a few days ago, the boot process is ending in a BusyBox shell. Apparently it cannot properly identify my M.2 NMVe SSD device where my root partition is. Indeed, it is not listed in /dev. For now, I'm solving this problem by booting the previous kernel, 5.4.0-42. This works fine. Also, an earlier attempt ended in a different shell that presented the error message "Gave up on waiting for root file system device". The UUID it indicated as missing is the correct UUID of my root partition, which also appears on /etc/fstab. I tried to re-build initrd.img-5.4.0-45-generic, but to no avail. Let me also mention that in another computer with a non-M.2 SSD, kernel - 5.4.0-45 boot properly. + 5.4.0-45 boots properly. Let me also mention that in another computer with a non-M.2 SSD, kernel 5.4.0-45 boot properly. Hi, attached the etl tracefile. I could not get the pdb files from the Microsoft symbol server to view it in TraceView. I hope this helps. ** Attachment added: "HID_WPP.etl" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1887190/+attachment/5407810/+files/HID_WPP.etl -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887190 Title: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 Status in Pop!_OS: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xserver-xorg-input-libinput package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux package in Arch Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Fedora: Confirmed Status in linux package in openSUSE: New Bug description: Hello The MSFT touchpad of this Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 laptop is not reacting at all (pointer and click never move when touchpad is touched).
