[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1834085] Re: Bluetooth touchpad (Apple Magic Trackpad) disconnects every few minutes
I'm on kernel 5.8.8 and am experiencing what I think is the exact same issue with my Magic Trackpad 1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1834085 Title: Bluetooth touchpad (Apple Magic Trackpad) disconnects every few minutes Status in Linux: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I recently got an Apple's Magic Trackpad. I paired it with Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS and worked out of the box, no special drivers needed. However, I experience frequent disconnections that last a few seconds (5-15 seconds usually), which are quite annoying, as the cursor stops responding during that interval. The trackpad connects by itself after that period. That usually happens every 20-40 minutes. I use the onboard bluetooth device of my laptop. I also have, at the same time, two more bluetooth devices (keyboard and mouse) and they do not experience that issue, just the trackpad. On ocassion I use bluetooth headphones which work just fine. First of all: Using the command "bluetoothctl" I get the following every time I experience a disconnection: [CHG] Device F4:1B:A1:33:F9:8D Connected: no [CHG] Device F4:1B:A1:33:F9:8D Connected: yes Checking "dmesg" I can see more information: (if I am not mistaken, this shows 4 disconnections) [ 1609.070538] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0007: unknown main item tag 0x0 [ 1609.070797] input: Apple Wireless Trackpad as /devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-7/1-7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:256/0005:05AC:030E.0007/input/input23 [ 1609.071460] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0007: input,hidraw1: BLUETOOTH HID v1.60 Mouse [Apple Wireless Trackpad] on 64:5d:86:86:3f:98 [ 1676.917377] NET: Registered protocol family 38 [ 1872.815348] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0008: unknown main item tag 0x0 [ 1872.815559] input: Apple Wireless Trackpad as /devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-7/1-7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:256/0005:05AC:030E.0008/input/input24 [ 1872.816248] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0008: input,hidraw1: BLUETOOTH HID v1.60 Mouse [Apple Wireless Trackpad] on 64:5d:86:86:3f:98 [ 3101.682671] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0009: unknown main item tag 0x0 [ 3101.683100] input: Apple Wireless Trackpad as /devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-7/1-7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:256/0005:05AC:030E.0009/input/input25 [ 3101.683673] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0009: input,hidraw1: BLUETOOTH HID v1.60 Mouse [Apple Wireless Trackpad] on 64:5d:86:86:3f:98 [ 3110.683360] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.000A: unknown main item tag 0x0 [ 3110.683929] input: Apple Wireless Trackpad as /devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-7/1-7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:1024/0005:05AC:030E.000A/input/input26 [ 3110.684487] magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.000A: input,hidraw1: BLUETOOTH HID v1.60 Mouse [Apple Wireless Trackpad] on 64:5d:86:86:3f:98 And this is what journalctl -b shows at the moment of the disconnection/reconnection: de juny 13 21:37:49 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) config/udev: removing device Apple Wireless Trackpad de juny 13 21:37:49 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (**) Option "fd" "64" (1,63 m)˜ de juny 13 21:37:49 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) event16 - Apple Wireless Trackpad: device removed de juny 13 21:37:49 TM1703 gnome-shell[5071]: g_array_unref: assertion 'array' failed de juny 13 21:37:49 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) UnloadModule: "libinput" de juny 13 21:37:49 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) systemd-logind: releasing fd for 13:80 de juny 13 21:37:49 TM1703 upowerd[1271]: unhandled action 'unbind' on /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-7/1-7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:256/0005:05AC:030E.0008 de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 kernel: magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0009: unknown main item tag 0x0 de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 kernel: input: Apple Wireless Trackpad as /devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-7/1-7:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/hci0:256/0005:05AC:030E.0009/input/input25 de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 kernel: magicmouse 0005:05AC:030E.0009: input,hidraw1: BLUETOOTH HID v1.60 Mouse [Apple Wireless Trackpad] on 64:5d:86:86:3f:98 de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) config/udev: Adding input device Apple Wireless Trackpad (/dev/input/mouse1) de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) No input driver specified, ignoring this device. de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) This device may have been added with another device file. de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (II) config/udev: Adding input device Apple Wireless Trackpad (/dev/input/event16) de juny 13 21:37:50 TM1703 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[4882]: (**) Apple Wireless Trackpad: Applying InputClass "libinput touchpad catchall"

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones
This new script also works for me, thanks. However, with both versions of the script sound will stop working after ~30 seconds of inactivity. So it is not "sticky" in my case. An easy workaround is to play an audio file on infinite loop with volume down to zero. This will keep the speakers enabled forever without any side- effect. I can live with that for a while. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851518 Title: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've been googling this issue for 10's of hours and tried many things. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones
@PowerKiKi @terrymagnusdrever @gannon1 Just to document this for anyone else that might benefit, attached is the final script I created. I reduced the previous list further from 788 to 358 verbs. There may be a few extra ones left, but probably not many based on my testing, as removing more tends to lose one speaker or not generate enough volume or other weird unexpected side effects. Its definitely a long sequence of blocks of data that is critical as opposed to one or two single statements. Anyway this smaller list appears to achieve the original goal. If anyone ever wants to reduce further, the data is broken into many blocks that look something like this (where the row right after the one that ends with 0x23 appears to be most important - so in this case its one of the 0x20 blocks): sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 0x500 0x26 sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 0xc00 0x0 sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 0x500 0x23 sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 0x400 0x20 sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 0x400 0x0 sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 0x400 0xc0 sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x20 0x4b0 0x11 Once you learn to work with the data as blocks it gets a lot easier to sort. Anyway, as far as what to do with this script I was not able to make a kernel patch that worked (maybe Mike can) and I was not able to get early patching to work (which could be me because I have never had any success with early patching). Originally I was just running the script manually at boot, but I found that just creating a simple systemd daemon does the trick (steps below). Now when I boot I have full sound and it seems to last for a while. What was most unexpected was that I also added back the single HDA verb for the headphones (which I specifically tried and found did not work before as a stand alone daemon) and now my headphones work along with the speakers WITHOUT using the custom kernel patch that Mike created. Bizarre, but whatever works. Since my last script worked for PowerKiKi I feel confident this will work for most Ion owners, but there is nothing in the script that is truly specific to the Ion laptop. The Samsung Flex was released on the same day and appears to have the same audio hardware, so likely this works for flex users too. It may also work for pro or always users, I am just not as sure on the hardware on those. Steps to create daemon 1) Place the verb script in whatever location you prefer (it needs to stay in one spot) 2) Make the permissions on the script file 777 and +x 3) Create a new daemon file named /etc/systemd/system/ionsound.service 4) Place this text in your new daemon file [Unit] After=network.service [Service] ExecStart={full path to where you placed the file}/TO912.sh [Install] WantedBy=default.target 5) Update the daemon file permissions to 664 sudo chmod 664 /etc/systemd/system/ionsound.service 6) Activate the daemon sudo systemctl daemon-reload sudo systemctl enable ionsound.service 7) Reboot and you should have sound ** Attachment added: "TO912 file" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1851518/+attachment/5410529/+files/TO912.sh -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851518 Title: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've been googling this issue for 10's of hours and tried many things. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1895327] Re: PRIME Profiles Not Shown in nvidia-settings
"For me 'On Demand' should be automatic." That is not how Nvidia is using the term: https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/450.66/README/primerenderoffload.html Again, automatic/seamless switching is not available on Linux. "I only have nvidia GPU working (and consumption about 10W) when using the prefix" That is expected. Just querying the GPU will not be enough to to ramp it up to full power. You can try nvidia-smi when you're running something demanding on the GPU and you'll likely see more power usage. "In nvidia-settings I don't have a PRIME Profiles" That is an issue. But keep in mind that is only a glorified GUI way of using 'sudo prime-select' It wouldn't change anything since 'prime-select query' already shows you're already in on-demand mode. ** Summary changed: - PRIME Render Offload "On-Demand" not supported + PRIME Profiles Not Shown in nvidia-settings ** Package changed: nvidia-graphics-drivers-450 (Ubuntu) => nvidia- settings (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895327 Title: PRIME Profiles Not Shown in nvidia-settings Status in nvidia-settings package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hi, I've installed Nvidia 450 on new installation of Ubuntu 20.04.1. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794 Don't know if that can help but i moved to 5.8.1 kernel . It works well with my previous workaround : remove ibt- * from /lib/firmware/intel then copy all ibt-* from linux-firmware_1.183.2_all.deb It works fine until an apt-upgrade installs the new latest linux- firmware 1.187.3 . This time i do the first step again but nothing work . So i reinstalled linux-firmware 1.187.3 and i deleted all ibt-12* then update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r` . It works now, until the next update i suppose. This time no firmware it loaded at boot for bluetooth [0.130388] Spectre V2 : Enabling Restricted Speculation for firmware calls [3.669777] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-56.ucode failed with error -2 [3.670121] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-55.ucode failed with error -2 [3.670135] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-54.ucode failed with error -2 [3.670219] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-53.ucode failed with error -2 [3.670417] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-52.ucode failed with error -2 [3.670562] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-51.ucode failed with error -2 [3.670971] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-50.ucode failed with error -2 [3.671106] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-49.ucode failed with error -2 [3.676998] iwlwifi :01:00.0: loaded firmware version 48.4fa0041f.0 cc-a0-48.ucode op_mode iwlmvm [3.677171] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwl-debug-yoyo.bin failed with error -2 [3.789219] i915 :00:02.0: [drm] Finished loading DMC firmware i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin (v1.4) [3.858532] iwlwifi :01:00.0: Allocated 0x0040 bytes for firmware monitor. modinfo btintel filename: /lib/modules/5.8.1-050801-generic/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/btintel.ko firmware: intel/ibt-12-16.ddc firmware: intel/ibt-12-16.sfi firmware: intel/ibt-11-5.ddc firmware: intel/ibt-11-5.sfi license:GPL version:0.1 description:Bluetooth support for Intel devices ver 0.1 author: Marcel Holtmann srcversion: A42C3539AE01FBB98F673AD depends:bluetooth retpoline: Y intree: Y name: btintel vermagic: 5.8.1-050801-generic SMP mod_unload sig_id: PKCS#7 signer: Build time autogenerated kernel key sig_key:0F:94:1A:26:3C:C9:CF:EE:A9:9D:5E:55:15:C7:01:C5:AA:C3:30:93 sig_hashalgo: sha512 signature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fo btintel -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878194 Title: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa Status

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794 D'ont know if that c -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878194 Title: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After updating the release from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, the bluetooth headset doesn't work anymore when HSP/HFP profile is selected. With Ubuntu 19.10 the headset was working, there was audio and the mic was perfect for video conferencing. [Steps to reproduce] 1. Connect headset (used blueman to setup and connect) 1.1. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile 2. Start playing audio (browser or other) 3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman) 4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input) 5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back [Expected] When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone should start working [Notes] I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from a browser. As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching profile. I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload` and rebooting several times. Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite different since the profile changes but the headset stops working. Tried updating firmware from v1.15.0 to v1.17.1; doesn't seem to have helped. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895434 Title: Display corruption after suspend with recent kernel update Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: For the last few days, after suspending and resuming, I get display corruption in Google Chrome. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1895434] [NEW] Display corruption after suspend with recent kernel update
Public bug reported: For the last few days, after suspending and resuming, I get display corruption in Google Chrome. Parts of the UI are replaces with black boxes. Resizing the window causes it to redraw but if I switch back to the original size then it goes back to black. I noticed it on 5.4.0-47 and backed down to 5.4.0-45 but still see the same. Looks like 5.4.0-45 was only released a few days before 5.4.0-47 so maybe I didn't reboot in that time. Those are the only upgrades I can see in the right timeframe. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed
Applied the 'fix' from Comment #11 by vmc(vmclark) in Linux Mint 20. The error is no longer logged. Some boots on my HP laptop with a 5400RPM spinning Hard drive are slow but some are faster but some around the same time with lz4. Hard disk performance on my laptop is better with gzip than lz4. With lz4 the PC extremely lags when some apt packages are being set up and configured and some final configurations after most or all packages are installed, set up and configured but with gzip, the lag never occurs and PC is usable. Hard disk read benchmarks are better with gzip than with lz4. I think that lz4 is more suitable for an SSD than a spinning hard drive -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835660 Title: initramfs unpacking failed Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: "initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed", message appears on boot up. If I "update-initramfs" using gzip instead of lz, then boot up passes without decoding failed message. --- However, we currently believe that the decoding error reported in dmesg is actually harmless and has no impact on usability on the system. Switching from lz4 to gzip compression, simply papers over the warning, without any benefits, and slows down boot. Kernel should be fixed to correctly parse lz4 compressed initrds, or at least lower the warning, to not be user visible as an error.
