Richard please file a new bug. It looks different. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900728 Title: Ubuntu boot failure after upgrade to kernel 5.4.0-52 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. After upgrading from linux 5.4.0-51 to 5.4.0-52 today, the computer boots into initramfs (Busybox) every time I reboot. No disk errors found there. If I use the grub menu to switch back to 5.4.0-51, the system boots and runs normally. This is on a Lenovo P53s laptop running Ubuntu only (no dual boot). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1896578] Re: raid10: Block discard is very slow, causing severe delays for mkfs and fstrim operations
** Description changed: BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1896578 [Impact] Block discard is very slow on Raid10, which causes common use cases which invoke block discard, such as mkfs and fstrim operations, to take a very long time. For example, on a i3.8xlarge instance on AWS, which has 4x 1.9TB NVMe devices which support block discard, a mkfs.xfs operation on Raid 10 takes between 8 to 11 minutes, where the same mkfs.xfs operation on Raid 0, takes 4 seconds. The bigger the devices, the longer it takes. The cause is that Raid10 currently uses a 512k chunk size, and uses this for the discard_max_bytes value.
If we need to discard 1.9TB, the kernel splits the request into millions of 512k bio requests, even if the underlying device supports larger requests. For example, the NVMe devices on i3.8xlarge support 2.2TB of discard at once: $ cat /sys/block/nvme0n1/queue/discard_max_bytes 2199023255040 $ cat /sys/block/nvme0n1/queue/discard_max_hw_bytes 2199023255040 Where the Raid10 md device only supports 512k: $ cat /sys/block/md0/queue/discard_max_bytes 524288 $ cat /sys/block/md0/queue/discard_max_hw_bytes 524288 If we perform a mkfs.xfs operation on the /dev/md array, it takes over 11 minutes and if we examine the stack, it is stuck in blkdev_issue_discard() $ sudo cat /proc/1626/stack [<0>] wait_barrier+0x14c/0x230 [raid10] [<0>] regular_request_wait+0x39/0x150 [raid10] [<0>] raid10_write_request+0x11e/0x850 [raid10] [<0>] raid10_make_request+0xd7/0x150 [raid10] [<0>] md_handle_request+0x123/0x1a0 [<0>] md_submit_bio+0xda/0x120 [<0>] __submit_bio_noacct+0xde/0x320 [<0>] submit_bio_noacct+0x4d/0x90 [<0>] submit_bio+0x4f/0x1b0 [<0>] __blkdev_issue_discard+0x154/0x290 [<0>] blkdev_issue_discard+0x5d/0xc0 [<0>] blk_ioctl_discard+0xc4/0x110 [<0>] blkdev_common_ioctl+0x56c/0x840 [<0>] blkdev_ioctl+0xeb/0x270 [<0>] block_ioctl+0x3d/0x50 [<0>] __x64_sys_ioctl+0x91/0xc0 [<0>] do_syscall_64+0x38/0x90 [<0>] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xa9 [Fix] Xiao Ni has developed a patchset which resolves the block discard performance problems. Hours after I posted the bug message, my computer would not boot to the Kubuntu 20.04 o/s. I determined the culprit was the Nvidia software. I attempted to purge the Nvidia drivers via the terminal, but no success. I was then forced to perform a fresh install of Kubuntu. The fresh install succeeded, with the Nouveau driver. I then installed the Nvidia 390 driver package, via the muon package manager. This succeeded, and I am happy to report the Nvidia 390 driver is properly installed and the nvidia-settings app runs properly. I am very reluctant to again attempt the install of the 450 driver package. The days for downtime and frustration to re-install are simply too great. Thanks for your attention and understanding. regards, RG. However, when putting the system to suspend (or hibernate), the screen goes off and the system freezes. The fan keeps running, keyboard backlight and power led are on. Sometimes, when pressing a button, I can get the screen to turn back on, but its frozen as well (no mouse movement, clock stuck etc.) So far I tried increasing the swap file size, however this did not help. I also livebooted Ubuntu 19.10 and tried suspend, but I had the same issue. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794 had this issue in 20.04 switching to 20.10 has resolved the issue for me -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878194 Title: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After updating the release from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, the bluetooth headset doesn't work anymore when HSP/HFP profile is selected. With Ubuntu 19.10 the headset was working, there was audio and the mic was perfect for video conferencing. [Steps to reproduce] 1. Connect headset (used blueman to setup and connect) 1.1. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile 2. Start playing audio (browser or other) 3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman) 4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input) 5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back [Expected] When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone should start working [Notes] I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from a browser. As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching profile. I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload` and rebooting several times. Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite different since the profile changes but the headset stops working. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1885363] Re: [amdgpu] Screen flickers after waking up from suspend
Just upgraded to Ubuntu 20.10. It seems like the issue is fixed with that version, so this can be closed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885363 Title: [amdgpu] Screen flickers after waking up from suspend Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I upgraded my Ubuntu 20.04 system with a new graphics card a few days ago. Everything seems fine when running the system normally, however whenever I suspend the machine and then wake it back up, severe problems occur. The first time, the machine froze completely. Switching to a different TTY didn't work anymore and the keyboard LEDs didn't respond to caps and num lock anymore, so I had to force shutdown. The second time, it came back OK but the screen has been flickering heavily since. Restarting Gnome and unplugging and plugging monitors back in hasn't helped. Relevant specs: CPU: AMD® Ryzen 9 3900x 12-core processor × 24 GPU: AMD® Radeon rx 5600 xt (MSI RADEON RX 5600 XT MECH OC) Monitors: 1x Acer running at 3840x2160 60Hz, 2x Medion (showing up as "Messeltronik Dresden GmbH") both running at 1920x1080 60Hz. Gnome: 3.36.2 X11 Apt doesn't report any updates. The flickering is most pronounced on the Acer. On the Medions, it seems to only happen when something changes on the screen. I have tried to capture this on video: https://youtu.be/HWT1J76-x94 This bug seem quite similar to this one (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1874588). I can also stop the flickering by switching the Acer to 1080p but when switching back to 4k, the problem reappears. I hope that ubuntu-bug has included all the necessary details. Let me know if you need anything else. Thank you very much for your help! [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed
Has this to do with BLK_DEV_RAM being compiled as a module? From init/initramfs.c: > if (IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RAM)) >printk(KERN_INFO "Trying to unpack rootfs image as > initramfs...\n"); >else >printk(KERN_INFO "Unpacking initramfs...\n"); >err = unpack_to_rootfs((char *)initrd_start, initrd_end - > initrd_start); >if (err) { >#ifdef CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RAM >populate_initrd_image(err); >#else >printk(KERN_EMERG "Initramfs unpacking failed: %s\n", err); >#endif So the IS_ENABLED line is true while the ifdef CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RAM line seems to evaluate to false. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835660 Title: initramfs unpacking failed Status in OEM Priority Project: New Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: "initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed", message appears on boot up. If I "update-initramfs" using gzip instead of lz, then boot up passes without decoding failed message. --- However, we currently believe that the decoding error reported in dmesg is actually harmless and has no impact on usability on the system. Switching from lz4 to gzip compression, simply papers over the warning, without any benefits, and slows down boot. Kernel should be fixed to correctly parse lz4 compressed initrds, or at least lower the warning, to not be user visible as an error.
