[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1962385] [NEW] impish portaudio19-dev install will revert jackd

2022-02-26 Thread teledyn
Public bug reported:

This is on a ubuntustudio Impish (21.10) install which is KDE-Plasma
based, and so this impacts the ubuntustudio utilities, but it also
reverts jackd2 back to jackd1; I read elsewhere that this also affects
essential apps such as blender.

I would expect packages shipped within Impish to be compatible with
Impish, but I do understand there may be solid engineering reasons why
this package would need to be restricted to the older jackd, yet still
be important enough to include.

sudo apt install portaudio19-dev:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  agordejo jack-keyboard jack-mixer jack-tools jackd jackd2 jackd2-firewire
jamin libjack-jackd2-0 mcpdisp meterbridge qjackctl qtractor rakarrack
  studio-controls ubuntustudio-default-settings ubuntustudio-desktop
  ubuntustudio-desktop-core ubuntustudio-installer ubuntustudio-menu

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  jackd1 jackd1-firewire libasound2-dev libjack-dev libjack0 libportaudiocpp0
  portaudio19-dev

This is for portaudio19-dev:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 19.6.0-1.1

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1962384] Re: 1900398

2022-02-26 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

> Same error report in journalctl.

Same as what?

> No disc in drive. Repeats at odd intervals.

How does the disc relate? What repeats at odd intervals?

Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!

Do you plan to fix this bug or do I have to buy a new storage controller
before ubuntu 21.10 goes out of support?

My controller is a ST-lab A-590

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1962359] [NEW] Hibernation fails due to resource busy during swap file check

2022-02-26 Thread bsdz
Public bug reported:

Hopefully, the automatically collected information is useful. The issue
manifests when I try to hibernate the device. I see the following in the
logs:

~$ journalctl --no-hostname -b -1 | tail -6
Feb 25 08:23:54 systemd[1]: nvidia-hibernate.service: Deactivated successfully.
Feb 25 08:23:54 systemd[1]: Finished NVIDIA system hibernate actions.
Feb 25 08:23:54 systemd[1]: Starting Hibernate...
Feb 25 08:23:54 kernel: PM: Image not found (code -16)
Feb 25 08:23:54 systemd-sleep[50360]: Entering sleep state 'hibernate'...
Feb 25 08:23:54 kernel: PM: hibernation: hibernation entry

I looked up error code 16 as EBUSY. This happens when using pm-hibernate
or "systemctl hibernate". I played qaround with the nvidia systemd
hibernate units but it didn't help.

Hibernate used to work before I upgraded to jammy. I was on focal and
bionic before that.

issue manifests when I try to hibernate the device. I see the
  following in the logs:

  ~$ journalctl --no-hostname -b -1 | tail -6

I looked up error code 16 as EBUSY. This happens when using pm-
hibernate or "systemctl hibernate". I played qaround with the nvidia
systemd hibernate units but it didn't help.

Hibernate used to work before I upgraded to jammy. I was on focal and

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1962373] [NEW] Cannot resume from suspend

2022-02-26 Thread Rob Owens
Public bug reported:

New HP Pavilion 15z-eh100

I am able to suspend via the power menu or by closing the laptop lid.
However, I am unable to resume from suspend. Opening the lid does not
do it. Hitting the power button does not do it. I have hit every key
on the keyboard as well as clicked the touchpad. The power button has a
slowly pulsing light, indicating it is suspended. Pressing and holding
the power button for several seconds, causing the laptop to power off,
is the only way I have found to get out of this state.

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification]

  [Impact]
Skylake, Kabylake, Kabylake-refresh, Amberlake and some other platforms where
audio is of SPT (PCH) type, HDA (with DSP capabilities) plus DMIC configuration
is supported on these with skylake driver since kernel 5.8. However, no sound
card can be detected w/o the topology binary file in /lib/firmware and
corresponding ucm file.

  [Fix]
The kernel config CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SKYLAKE_HDAUDIO_CODEC needa to be
enabled for the snd_soc_skl driver to support HDA+DMIC configuration. And the
topology binary file and UCM files need to be located in the correct path based
on Intel's suggestion.
https://gist.github.com/crojewsk/4e6382bfb0dbfaaf60513174211f29cb.

  [Test]
On the Skylake/Kabylake platforms with either the PCI device 8086:9d70 and
8086:9d71, boot up the machine and check the existence of the sound card by
either 'aplay -l' or 'pactl list' command.

  [Where problems could occur]
Should be low risk, it only affects limited Intel Platforms with particular
PCI device IDs + HDA plus DMIC configuration.

  == Original Bug Description ==

Ubuntu version: 20.10 (updated from 20.04)
  Kernel: 5.8.0-41-generic #46-Ubuntu
  Manufacturer: Acer
  Product Name: Swift SF314-54
  BIOS Revision: 1.11

Audio card: Realtek High Definition Audio
Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP HD
Audio [8086:9d71] (rev 21)

  Summary
  ===

After upgrading from linux kernel 5.4 to 5.8, there is no more sound
card available. However, if I select kernel 5.4 in GRUB, the sound
  card is available.

  Steps to reproduce
  ==

  1. Install 20.04 or 20.10 with a kenel 5.4
  2. Check that sound output works as excepted (Settings > Sound > Output >
Test)
  3. Check that `alsa-info` command returns information
  4. Upgrade kernel to 5.8

  Expected results

  Sound output still works.

  Actual results
  ==

  2. Sound card is available, and sound can be output to the internal speakers.
  4. No more sound card detected (Sound Settings display "Dummy Output" in the
list of output devices).
