Title:
bonding: arp monitoring is failing with tuntap interfaces

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  [Impact]

When tuntap interfaces are slaves of a bonding interface, arp
  monitoring is unusable.

This is fixed upstream with commit a31d27fbed5d ("tun: fix bonding
active backup with arp monitoring"). It will be included in linux
  v5.16.

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=a31d27fbed5d

  [Test Case]

Create a bonding with two tuntap interfaces and arp monitoring
configured. Before the patch, slave interfaces are flapping
  continuously.

  Example:
  Nov 19 16:12:28 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): link status definitely up
  Nov 19 16:12:28 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): making interface the new
active one
  Nov 19 16:12:28 dut-vm kernel: bond0: active interface up!
  Nov 19 16:12:31 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): link status definitely
down, disabling slave
Nov 19 16:12:31 dut-vm kernel: bond0: now running without any active
interface!
  Nov 19 16:12:32 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): link status definitely up
  Nov 19 16:12:32 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): making interface the new
active one
  Nov 19 16:12:32 dut-vm kernel: bond0: active interface up!
  Nov 19 16:12:35 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): link status definitely
down, disabling slave
Nov 19 16:12:35 dut-vm kernel: bond0: now running without any active
interface!
  Nov 19 16:12:36 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): link status definitely up
  Nov 19 16:12:36 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): making interface the new
active one
  Nov 19 16:12:36 dut-vm kernel: bond0: active interface up!
  Nov 19 16:12:37 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp3): link status definitely up
  Nov 19 16:12:39 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp2): link status definitely
down, disabling slave
  Nov 19 16:12:39 dut-vm kernel: bond0: (slave ntfp3): making interface the new
active one

  [Regression Potential]

The patch is trivial, the potential regressions are low.

2022-03-19 Thread Zhangzhen
Could you explain how I can do that, please? I ran into the same problem
as #1, and now it is stuck here. How can I do the changes as you said?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1961439] Re: nvme - duplicate cntlid

2022-03-19 Thread Justin Berger
Also worth noting: It's random which one gets removed and which one gets
added on my system. This makes it harder to work around and was pretty
confusing when I did a new system install without paying attention to
the name of the device.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1965302] Re: Text-mode console is unavailable in Jammy

2022-03-19 Thread vidte...@gmail.com
This is so weird. I removed "quiet splash" and added nomodeset but still
this Jammy install shows no text boot-up messages, it also takes 2 minutes to
boot up and I am unable to see what the cause is.
Other than this issue Jammy works fine on my machine.

Title:
Text-mode console is unavailable in Jammy

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I recently updated a system from Focal to Jammy pre-release, and I've
found that the text-mode console (obtained by hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1) is
blank. It still seems to accept keyboard input; I can log in "blind"
and enter commands that have effects, but I see nothing on the screen.
By "nothing," I mean it's completely blank. I also see no kernel or
systemd boot messages when I set verbose boot mode by removing the
"quiet splash" options. The UEFI firmware's display continues to work,
as does the display of my boot manager (rEFInd).

Note that kernel options gathered by "ubuntu-bug linux" included with
this bug report may include a "vga" option, but I don't normally boot
with it; I was trying various options to try to recover my console,
and that was the latest change I tried that had no effect. My normal
  kernel options are:

  ro root=/dev/mapper/seeker-u2204 quiet splash

The text-mode console worked fine with Focal. I tried booting with the
Focal kernel (vmlinuz-5.4.0-104-generic) post-upgrade, but it crashed
with a kernel panic, complaining that it couldn't read the root
  filesystem.

The kernel version that's currently installed is 5.15.0-22-generic.

At present, if a virt instance is hibernated and restarted in a
different environment, the instance will crash. We have seen
situations where customers have to enable support cases to recover an
instance. The proposed patch is supposed to enable the kernel to
detect the change and reboot the instance instead of crashing. In the
ACPI specification; there is a 'hardware signature' field in the ACPI
tables, and the OS can reboot cleanly if/when that signature changes,
instead of attempting the resume and crashing.

  [Test Case]

Hibernate an AWS instance, resume on a different platform. Positive
  test results from Amazon engineers.

  [Where things could go wrong]

Resume currently crashes when a hibernated instance is migrated to a
new machine. It can't get much worse, unless the initial hibernate
  fails.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1965618] [NEW] linux-azure: Focal 5.4 arm64 support

2022-03-19 Thread Tim Gardner
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

[Impact]

Focal linux-azure does not support arm64

[Fix]

Backport/cherry-pick approximately 100 patches to support arm64 on
hyperv

[Where things could go wrong]

A number of the patches reorganize hyperv CPU support. Therefore amd64
could be affected.

Title:
Ubuntu 21.10 + RTX3060Ti - second display black after login, works
  again after toggling the sources

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hello

I have a very peculiar situation. I have a PC with RTX3060Ti and
Ubuntu 21.10 (dual-boot). Once I log-in to Ubuntu, only one of my 2
monitors is working properly, the other turns itself on, but has a
black screen and goes to sleep mode after couple of seconds. Both
monitors are detected by the Nvidia Settings. Furthermore I can drag
apps to/from the blacked-out monitor as if it worked correctly.

The weird thing is that if I switch to a different source on the
blacked-out monitor and then return to the original source (the one
connected to the PC), the monitor is detected and works as it should:

  1) Switching the source to a different one - Ubuntu detects that there is
only one monitor, all apps that were 'displayed' on a blacked-out monitor go to
the other, single monitor
  2) Switching back to the original source - Ubuntu detects both monitors and
they both work correctly.

I'm using Nvidia 510 Drivers. Tried older ones and Xorg drivers but no
luck. Changing the outputs on GPU doesn't work either. I'm ready to
provide any diagnostic information, just tell me what you need. It's
  really annoying.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1798400]

2022-03-19 Thread Sergio Callegari
The bug is still there as of LibO 7.3.x. Up in comment 12
(https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120663#c12) there
is a nice analysis of the underlying problem why the remote cannot work.

Established that, I think that most users go used to the fact that the
remote functionality does not work in linux. Personally, I have
uninstalled the android app on the phone so I do not have an unfortunate
reminder about it. In fact, the real issue is probably the advertisement
of a functionality that is not there.

For the time being I suggest disabling the remote-via-bluetooth
functionality in linux and closing the bug by simply saying that the
remote via bluetooth cannot be supported on linux where there are
evidently issues that span other software pieces such as the bluetooth
stack and pulse audio. To the best of my understanding, these involve
the hijacking of the default rfcomm channel by pulse audio before it
even needs it and the lack of a standard approach to let other
applications find a free channel to use and advertise it to their
counterparts.

Alternatively (but I would not consider this a good solution), the
configuration options could be enhanced to add the possibility to choose
a bluetooth channel in libreoffice and in the mobile phone application,
so that the user can manually work around the fact that the predefined
channel is locked by some other application.

As a final point, note that even if the remote-via-wifi may seem a good
alternative, in fact in most cases it is practically useless. In most
cases, presentations will not be given at a place where you control the
network, but at sites with site-provided wifi, such as universities,
schools, conference places, business sites, etc. All these locations
tend to have wifi deployments that block stuff on the ports used by
impress remote.

Bug description:
Trying to use the impress remote
  (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Impress_Remote) over bluetooth
with libreoffice over ubuntu bionic fails.

The handset errors out that it cannot connect with Libreoffice on the
computer even if the bluetooth adapter on the handset and on the
  computer are correctly paired.

This does not seem to be an issue in the Libreoffice or in the impress
  remote code:

  - I have tested also past LibO versions
  - The Impress remote codebase has not changed recently

This used to work on the same hardware (headset and laptop) with
  ubuntu 16.04.

Hence the issue seems to be in a regression in the ubuntu bluetooth
  stack.

  To replicate:

  1) Install Libreoffice on Ubuntu bionic (either from the ubuntu repo
or with the deb packages from the document fundation)

  2) Assure that your computer has bluetooth

  3) Install impress remote on an android handset (either from the play
  store of via fdroid)

  4) Assure that "remote control" is enabled in impress
  Tools>Options>Impress>General

  5) Pair the bluetooth adapters in the laptop and in the computer

  6) Open a presentation on the laptop

  7) Open the remote on the handset, got to the bluetooth pane see the
  computer there, touch it

  8) See the impress remote erroring out

Most likely you will also get a bluetooth error on dmesg

5.15.0-22: No console displayed on EFI systems

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  DISCLAIMER:
This is my second-ever bug report. Apologies in advance for any missing or
inaccurate info. I am willing to troubleshoot and supply more/better info as
needed.

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
After upgrading the kernel on my Ubuntu 22.04 Server test system from
5.15.0-18 to 5.15.0-22, I see absolutely no console output on my display past
the grub menu.

I can give the system a few seconds to finish booting, log in blindly and
watch the activity LEDs on e.g. the network interface as i run a ping or
similar.
I can also log in remotely via SSH, and/or use a serial console. So the
system definitely does boot. But my actual display/screen shows no console
output.

  ENVIRONMENT:

(Output gathered via SSH while display was showing no output)

  testuser@testserver:~$ lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (development branch)
  Release: 22.04
  Codename: jammy
  testuser@testserver:~$ uname -a
  Linux testserver 5.15.0-22-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 8 10:16:30 UTC 2022
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This was initially discovered on an Ubuntu Server VM running in EFI mode on
VirtualBox 6.1.32.
System was installed with the daily 'jammy-live-server-amd64.iso' image from
2022-03-07, fully upgraded as of 2022-03-10.
Switching Graphics Controller in Virtualbox does not help, nor does
'nomodeset' or 'noacpi'.
I am able to reproduce the issue on real hardware and with different physical
graphics cards.

Similar symptoms can also be observed in Ubuntu Desktop (still using EFI) by
attempting to switch to tty with CTRL + ALT + F[3-6], or by taking note of the
missing plymouth screen during boot.
Systems installed/booted in legacy BIOS mode (both Server and Desktop) do not
appear to be affected.

I have tried reinstalling on both virtual and hardware platforms, with
same result before and after upgrading the kernel.

HOW TO REPRODUCE - Ubuntu Server:
  - Boot existing Ubuntu Server EFI installation with 5.15.0-18 and observe
console output
  - Set GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=menu and GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 in /etc/default/grub (to
enable rollback)
  - Run update-grub
  - Run sudo apt full-upgrade and watch linux version 5.15.0-22 get installed
  - Reboot and observe your display (no console output will be shown after grub)

HOW TO REPRODUCE - Ubuntu Desktop:
  - Download Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop daily ISO
  - Write ISO to USB
  - Boot from USB in EFI mode
  - Install system
  - Run sudo apt full-upgrade and upgrade linux* to kernel 5.15.0-22
  - Reboot and observe missing plymouth screen during boot
  - Wait for graphical login screen to appear
  - Press CTRL + ALT + F[3-6] (screen will go black and/or freeze)
  - Press CTRL + ALT + F1 (screen will unfreeze and/or return to gdm greeter)

  WORKAROUNDS:
If you still have 5.15.0-18 or earlier installed, select it in Grub.
and/or install mainline kernel 5.16.11+ (for testing only - will not work if
you have Secure Boot enabled).
Alternatively, re-install/convert/boot your system to boot in legacy BIOS
mode.

  Fix Released

Bug description:
Debian has just removed the crda package from the archive, stating
that it is obsolete with current kernels:

https://bugs.debian.org/1003903

We need someone to determine if this is accurate for Ubuntu as well,
and if so, update the kernel packaging to not depend on crda anymore
  so it can be removed.
