[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1971933] Re: [Regression] Unable to wake laptop using trackpad input

2022-05-28 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
I installed the same kernel that is in 20.04 onto a Lubuntu Kinetic
(22.10 alpha) installation, and the touchpad wake didn't work on my
laptop. I then tried USB wake on the kernel that's part of Kinetic, and
USB wake did work.

Title:
[Regression] Unable to wake laptop using trackpad input

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04,
the dell laptop no longer wakes up using trackpad movement/interaction.

Wake-on trackpad-interaction used to work since Ubuntu Bionic, i.e.,
  Working On:
  Ubuntu 18.04, 18.10, 19.04, 19.10, 20.04, 20.10, 21.04, 21.10.

  NOT Working on: Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic - 2022-05-16 08:31
  )

Just to clarify: Suspend and Resume are working, trackpad is functional
before and after suspend,
  But,
Trackpad trigger to wakeup from suspend is not working.

  suspend problem

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've installed Ubuntu 22.04 on the ThinkPad E480. Suspend functions ok
intermittently. Some times it works fine, other times the computer

machine is still running and the ThinPad led is on, and there is no
way out... no response from keyboard or mouse... the only solution is
to switch off manually hitting and holding the power button), other
times the machine does not wakes up from suspension mode.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1976125] Re: The webcam image displayed has problems

2022-05-28 Thread Matthew Ruffell
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1967843 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1967843

This is probably fixed in clutter-gst-3.0 3.0.27-2ubuntu1 that we
released a couple days ago. Run "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt upgrade"
and it will pull in the fixed package.

Marking as a duplicate of bug 1967843 for the moment.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970056] Re: Ubuntu 22.04 unable to mount root partition

Things are back to normal in kernel version 5.18. Laptop boots normally
and touchpad works!

Title:
Ubuntu 22.04 unable to mount root partition

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After updating from Kubuntu 21.10 to Kubuntu 22.04, boot drops to a
(initramfs) prompt/busybox. When I type "exit" I get the "Gave up
waiting for root file system device" error message and "ALERT!
UUID=[nvme drive UUID] does not exist. Dropping to a shell!"

I can still boot into KDE when selecting the older kernel version
5.13.0-40-lowlatency. I have tried the newer kernel versions
  5.15.025-generic, 5.15.0.24-lowlatency, 5.17.4-051421-generic and
5.14.21-051421-lowlatency and all have produced the same problem.

When removing the the "pci=nocrs" kernel paramater in Grub for these
newer versions, the system boots into KDE but the touchpad does not
work. Kernel version 5.13.0-40-lowlatency boots into KDE without
removing the "pci=nocrs" parameter and everything works as expected,
  including the touchpad.

My hardware is a Lenovo ideapad lenovo ideapad 3 15IIL05, Processors: 8 ×
Intel® Core™ i5-1035G4 CPU @ 1.10GHz, Memory: 7,3 GiB of RAM, Graphics
Processor: Mesa Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics. I have upgraded the hard drive that
came with the machine to a Kingston SA2000M8500G 465,8GiB nvme drive.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1955613] Re: Add basic Wifi support for Qualcomm WCN6856

2022-05-28 Thread Wojciech Turowicz
I've recently bought the new [2022 Razer Blade 14'' with 3070
Ti](https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5924/~/at-a-
glance%3A-razer-blade-14-%282022%29-%7C-rz09-0427x).

realize that neither WiFi nor BT are working.

Can anyone help me with resolving this issue?

Edit: I tried Ubuntu 18.x, 20.x, 21.x, 22.x and fedora 36 with all
various kernels and it all shows the same errors. Looks like only
Windows has the drivers for the recent hardware.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Qualcomm WCN6856 doens't work.

  [Fix]
Backport missing bits to make Wifi 5 work. Wifi 6 support is not in the
  scope of this SRU.

  [Test]
The system can connect to Wifi. Wifi still works after several rounds of
  suspend/resume cycles.

  [Where problems could occur]
The change is limited to ath11k, which is also the only user of mhi bus,
so the scope of risk is limited. Let alone it never worked before, so
there's not much room to go wrong.

Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems:

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
KVM uses lazy storage key enablement as Linux does no longer make use of the
storage keys. When the guest enters keyed mode, then KVM will save/restore the
key during paging, provide change/reference tracking for guest and host and for
all interpreted instructions will do key protection.
If an instruction is intercepted and passed along to userspace (like QEMU) no
storage key protection is checked, though. This is in violation of the
architecture and it can result in misbehaving guests that rely on key
protection for all instructions.
This item will improve the MEMOP ioctl to also add key checking. In case of a
key protection the right fault is injected in the guest.

  Value: Interoperability

Bug description:
Linux as a guest operating system often doesn't have as stringent
requirements to architectural compliance as traditional operating
systems that rely on it. Specifically, KVM implements the SIGP RESTART
in a non-compliant way, as it reports a CPU state to be stopped after
SIGP RESTART was issued, while it should report a busy condition until
the CPU is really started. This feature covers the necessary
  fixes/improvements to KVM SIGP processing.

kernel supports large command lines (might be a feature bitmap at a fixed

Hi there, I am using Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS(Brazilian Portuguese, so,
sorry if I translated wrong some label) in a Dell Inspiron 15 series
3000 and I am having some Bluetooth problems.

I always suffer to synchronize my Cadenza PH-B Bluetooth Headphone.
It Shows as PH-B-500 at the bluetooth devices list
  What happens is:
  1. I turn on the headphone
  2. I go to Settings → Bluetooth
  3. The Notebook entire bluetooth enters a shutdown reinitialize loop
  4. It only stops when I turn off the headphone

  But if I:
  1. Keep the headphone off
  2. go to Settings → Bluetooth
  3. Click on the PH-B-500 on the list
  4. Turn the headphone on and at the same time click on Conection at the
PH-B-500 Bluetooth window
  it usually starts working fine.
The headphone works perfectly on my Android cell phone so I don’t believe it
is broken.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1971567] Re: TPM breaks resume from suspend

2022-05-28 Thread Nicolas
Have the same behaviour on my Lenovo Thinkpad T460s (20FAS0FD07) running
5.15.0-33-generic:
1. laptop can't get out of suspend
2. boot is longer than with 21.10 due to the time out of TPM

Notable consequence is that the laptop will not resume from suspend

After disabling TPM ("Security Chip" in Lenovo BIOS) completely,

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1976147] [NEW] [Kernel 5.15] System messages (kernel and systemd) are not shown during boot until it reach a late stage

2022-05-28 Thread fprietog
Public bug reported:

# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Release:22.04

# uname -a
Linux fpgrpi 5.15.0-1008-raspi #8-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Thu May 19 11:58:51 UTC
2022 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

Problem summary:

System is a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.4.

When you remove the 'quiet' and 'splash' options in file
/boot/firmware/cmdline.txt in order to see "live" the kernel and systemd
messages generated during boot these messages are not shown from the
start of the boot process. It remains a blank screen until boot process
reached a late stage (maybe the gpu driver init but I'm not sure).

It works with previous kernels 5.13 from Impish (it show all messages
from the boot start) but is broken in kernels 5.15 from jammy.

What was expected:
--
As in kernel 5.13 the boot will show 4 raspberries in the top of the screen and
the kernel and systemd messages generated will be shown from the start of the
boot process.

How to reproduce:
-
Remove the 'quiet' option in file /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt in order to see
"live" the kernel and systemd messages generated during boot. With kernel 5.13
these messages are shown from the boot process start but with kernel 5.15 the
screen remains blank until a late boot stage.

** Affects: linux-raspi (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1912935] Re: battery drain while notebook off / shutdown

2022-05-28 Thread Martien Lagerweij
I can confirm that the patch did not help prevent battery drain while
the laptop was off.

@Kai-Heng, do you think that the patch could work when placing it in the
core.c file as mentioned in #22 and not cause the previous issue with
NVIDIA Tegra of that original patch?

Title:
battery drain while notebook off / shutdown

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,

my battery drains around 15 to 20 percent a day when shutdown on linux ubuntu.
  It is an HP notebook HP 15s-eq0355ng , Ryzen 5 3500U , Vega8 .

  Tested:

  - with ubuntu 20.04
  - Kernel 5.4, 5.8 (hwe) and the current mainline kernel 5.11 (rc4)
  - no usb devices are plugged in
  - no wake ob lan available
  - no USB power when off (checked with optical mouse)
  - no visible LEDs are on when shutdown

I reinstalled window 10, when shutdown from windows there is no
(visible) battery drain (or significantly lower).

Linux is unusable on this device, if the battery drains in a short
time to 0% percent. This cause battery damage ...

  ---

Tested TLP with default settings and activated
DEVICES_TO_DISABLE_ON_SHUTDOWN (bluetooth wifi wwan), same power
  consumption after shutdown.

Same power consumption on 20.10 (Groovy Gorilla).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1973167] Re: linux-image-4.15.0-177-generic freezes on the welcome screen

2022-05-28 Thread Alexis Scheuer
Hi!
After all, I am lucky: my Dell Latitude 5480 succeeds sometimes to start
XUbuntu 18.04.6 LTS normally, but often freezes on boot because "A start job is
running for ..." (several messages of this type), both with
linux-image-4.15.0-177-generic and linux-image-4.15.0-180-generic, while
everything goes fine with linux-image-4.15.0-166-generic (which I installed
back).
I will give a try with 176.

After updating to linux-image-4.15.0-177-generic, my machine
completely freezes on the Ubuntu Welcome screen, i.e. right after
switching to GUI mode. The mouse pointer is frozen, the keyboard does
not even respond to CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK, pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 shows
  no reaction.

I cannot work with my machine at this point and have to hard reset it.

Selecting advanced boot options in grub and selecting the previous
linux kernel 4.15.0-176 makes it work again. So this bad bug was
introduced with the 4.15.0-177 kernel release.

I tried removing the nvidia-driver-510 package, presumably making
Ubuntu use the "nouveau" driver, and with that, I could use the
welcome screen and log in, but the machine still froze shortly
  afterwards.

So maybe this is some sort of interference with my GeForce 1080
graphics card, but it is not specific to the driver used.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1973482] Re: kernel 4.15.0.177 break everything on Dell XPS 15 9570

2022-05-28 Thread Alexis Scheuer
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1973167 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1973167

Hi!
After all, I am lucky: my Dell Latitude 5480 succeeds sometimes to start
XUbuntu 18.04.6 LTS normally, but often freezes on boot because "A start job is
running for ..." (several messages of this type), both with
linux-image-4.15.0-177-generic and linux-image-4.15.0-180-generic, while
everything goes fine with linux-image-4.15.0-166-generic (which I installed
back).
I will give a try with 176.

kernel 4.15.0.177 break everything on Dell XPS 15 9570

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  There are many issues including:

  - wireless card DISBLED / UNCLAIMED
  - no sound output device listed
  - strange electrical noise in the speakers when the cpu is under load
  - mounting /boot/efi hangs for 1m30
  - various services not starting (snap, etc)

Rolling back to 4.15.0.176 fixes all the issues.

Can you let me know which logs I could provide to help?

2022-05-28 Thread Ubuntu SRU Bot
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted linux-meta-aws (5.15.0.1009.11) for
jammy have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

Status in linux-azure source package in Jammy:

Bug description:
In GCP images it is possible to create virtual MIDI devices and
generally do stuff like audio routing, etc.

At CircleCI, where we run many of our VMs on Ubuntu in GCP, several of
our customers use this functionality to test audio equipment in their
  CI runs.

Unfortunately they cannot run their tests on our AWS based VMs, as
there is no sound support compiled into the kernel on the AWS kernel
  and images.

See the package listings for the other kernels for, e.g. the loopback driver:
  ```
  linux-modules-extra-5.4.0-99-generic:
/lib/modules/5.4.0-99-generic/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
  linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-1031-oracle:
/lib/modules/5.8.0-1031-oracle/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
  linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-1032-gcp:
/lib/modules/5.8.0-1032-gcp/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
  ```

We would love to be able to install the sound drivers (especially snd-
aloop) with the linux-modules-extra-aws package, but currently cannot,
and obviously do not want to start running our own kernels, as then we
lose the immediacy of kernel patches provided upstream by Canonical.

You can see the difference in the GCP:

https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-gcp/+git/jammy/tree/debian.gcp/config/config.common.ubuntu#n6884

  and AWS kernel:

https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/jammy/tree/debian.aws/config/config.common.ubuntu

again there. The reasoning for the removal appears to be in this commit from
2016:

https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/jammy/commit/debian.aws/config/config.common.ubuntu?id=b5e310c4cc872c3fc7c7dd09ce67efb11eeaf07c
