Title:
  battery not detected by ACPI

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my freshly installed Fujitsu Lifebook A3510 now running kubuntu 21.10 with
kernel 5.13.0-22-generic, there is an issue with the internal battery. When
kernel boots up, ACPI isn't able to detect it correctly, see dmesg line:
[0.528105] ACPI: battery: Slot [BAT1] (battery absent)

But asking lshw for power devices, it says:
  *-battery
 description: Lithium Ion Battery
 product: CP753347-01
 vendor: FUJITSU
 physical id: 1
 serial: 02A-Z201219003557Z
 slot: Internal Battery
 capacity: 45032mWh
 configuration: voltage=10,8V

I've updated the BIOS to latest version 1.12 already, with no better result.
What is the problem here, and how can I fix it?

Bug description:
  [Impact]
During hotplug built-in hdmi, the error message show up.
  #REG_WAIT timeout for yellow Carp

  [Fix]
This tends to take miliseconds in certain scenarios and we'd rather not
wait that long. Due to how this interacts with det size update and
locking waiting should not be necessary as compbuf updates before
  unlock.

Add a watch for config error instead as that is something we actually do
  care about.

  [Test Case]
  1. Plug and unplug hdmi
  2. cant get the error message in dmesg.

  [Where problems could occur]
  Low

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1973678] Re: CIFS crash mounting DFS share in 22.04

2022-05-29 Thread Liam Baker
I have the same problem in Windows Subsystem for Linux, Ubuntu 20.04
I have a CIFS share containing 24 DFS folders.
Opening any subfolder in the share causes an instant kernel panic.
I do not have this problem on embedded hardware reading from the same share
running the xilinx 4.6.0 kernel and 16.04LTS derivative (Petalinux 2016).

'Virtual Machine' has encountered a fatal error. The guest operating system
reported that it failed with the following error codes: ErrorCode0: 0x0,
ErrorCode1: 0x0, ErrorCode2: 0x0, ErrorCode3: 0x0, ErrorCode4: 0x0. If the
problem persists, contact Product Support for the guest operating system.

[Fix]
Update new TMDS clock setting defined by VBT to configure max
TMDS clock rate.

[Test]
Verified on hardware, no errors or calltrace.

[Where problems could occur]
Low risk, add new definition on new hardware. It may break i915 driver.

Backported in minor change because this part of code is made to a
function.

  battery not detected by ACPI

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my freshly installed Fujitsu Lifebook A3510 now running kubuntu 21.10 with
kernel 5.13.0-22-generic, there is an issue with the internal battery. When
kernel boots up, ACPI isn't able to detect it correctly, see dmesg line:
[0.528105] ACPI: battery: Slot [BAT1] (battery absent)

But asking lshw for power devices, it says:
  *-battery
 description: Lithium Ion Battery
 product: CP753347-01
 vendor: FUJITSU
 physical id: 1
 serial: 02A-Z201219003557Z
 slot: Internal Battery
 capacity: 45032mWh
 configuration: voltage=10,8V

I've updated the BIOS to latest version 1.12 already, with no better result.
What is the problem here, and how can I fix it?

Status in linux source package in Bionic:

Bug description:
After updating to linux-image-4.15.0-177-generic, my machine
completely freezes on the Ubuntu Welcome screen, i.e. right after
switching to GUI mode. The mouse pointer is frozen, the keyboard does
not even respond to CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK, pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 shows
  no reaction.

I cannot work with my machine at this point and have to hard reset it.

Selecting advanced boot options in grub and selecting the previous
linux kernel 4.15.0-176 makes it work again. So this bad bug was
introduced with the 4.15.0-177 kernel release.

I tried removing the nvidia-driver-510 package, presumably making
Ubuntu use the "nouveau" driver, and with that, I could use the
welcome screen and log in, but the machine still froze shortly
  afterwards.

So maybe this is some sort of interference with my GeForce 1080
graphics card, but it is not specific to the driver used.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1971437] Re: linux-image-5.15.0-27-generic causes Thinkpad T460p to not resume after suspend

2022-05-29 Thread Sebastien G
I needed to disable my USB bluetooth mouse to wake-up my Lenovo Thinkpad
T460p with mainline kernel 5.14.16, but if I redo "# echo XHCI >
/proc/acpi/wakeup" with the kernel 5.15.0-27-generic and it prints this
:

XHCI S3 *enabled pci::00:14.0

even the USB bluetooth mouse won't be able to wake-up the laptop. I have
the exact same issue with newer kernel 5.15.0-33-generic from the
current linux-image-generic package.

But the problem is solved using mainline kernel 5.18.0!

Title:
linux-image-5.15.0-27-generic causes Thinkpad T460p to not resume
  after suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading from Ubuntu 21.10 to Ubuntu 22.04, my Lenovo Thinkpad
T460p doesn't wake-up after suspend. The kernel installed was linux-
image-5.15.0-27-generic. I downgraded to Linux kernel 5.13.15 and it
  works fine now.

With Ubuntu 21.10, I had linux-image-5.13.15-40-generic kernel and it
worked fine, but I've uninstalled it after the upgrade to 22.04.

I also tested newer versions like 5.16.x and 5.17.x with the mainline
program and they cause the same issue.

The issue is that no key nor the power button nor the screen lid wake
the laptop with kernel versions superior to Linux 5.13 (5.13.15 I
  think).

It's either a Linux kernel problem, or a compile options mistake.

Title:
linux-image-5.15.0-27-generic causes Thinkpad T460p to not resume
  after suspend

2022-05-29 Thread Sebastien G
I have what is maybe the beginning of a solution : I was able to disable
my USB bluetooth mouse to wake-up my Lenovo Thinkpad T460p by doing this

Title:
linux-image-5.15.0-27-generic causes Thinkpad T460p to not resume
  after suspend

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1971933] Re: [Regression] Unable to wake laptop using trackpad input

2022-05-29 Thread John Smith
Was it working in any version on your laptop ?

(could be hardware difference).

I have an old XPS 15 (now barely used) that never had touchpad to wake.

On the new dell Inspiron 7000 series laptop, the touchpad (interaction)
to wake worked from the start. It worked for Ubuntu (18.10, 19.04,
19.10, 20.04, 20.10, 21.04, 21.10)

Title:
[Regression] Unable to wake laptop using trackpad input

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04,
the dell laptop no longer wakes up using trackpad movement/interaction.

Wake-on trackpad-interaction used to work since Ubuntu Bionic, i.e.,
  Working On:
  Ubuntu 18.04, 18.10, 19.04, 19.10, 20.04, 20.10, 21.04, 21.10.

  NOT Working on: Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic - 2022-05-16 08:31
  )

Just to clarify: Suspend and Resume are working, trackpad is functional
before and after suspend,
  But,
Trackpad trigger to wakeup from suspend is not working.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1976184] Re: Linux PV device frontends vulnerable to attacks by backends

2022-05-29 Thread Luís Cunha dos Reis Infante da Câmara
** CVE added: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2022-23042

** Description changed:

The packages listed above are vulnerable to the CVEs below in at least
- one Ubuntu release, as stated in the Ubuntu CVE Tracker.
+ one Ubuntu release, as stated in the Ubuntu CVE Tracker, except for
+ linux-azure-4.15, linux-dell300x, linux-gcp-4.15 and linux-snapdragon,
+ that are only vulnerable to CVE-2022-23041.

  Please release fixed packages.

Xen released a security advisory on March 10.

(I was informed by the security team that it does not track security
issues via Launchpad bugs, but in the Ubuntu CVE Tracker. However, the
issue is unpatched for over 2.5 months and marked as needed for these
combinations of source package and Ubuntu version in the Tracker, and
therefore I am filing this bug.)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1958770] Re: Aquantia GbE LAN driver causes UBSAN error during kernel boot

2022-05-29 Thread bsdz
I followed instructions under the wiki
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed) using the "Developer
Options" to enable pre-released updates (jammy-proposed); I then also
followed section "Selective upgrading from -proposed" to set a pin-
priority of 400. I then installed proposed kernel as follows:

sudo apt-get install linux-generic/jammy-proposed linux-headers-
generic/jammy-proposed

However, inspection of dmesg shows the proposed/installed kernel is
5.15.0-35-generic (not the version from the above Ubuntu kernel bot,
i.e. linux-oem-5.17/5.17.0-1006.6 or linux-oem-5.14/5.14.0-1040.44).

Also, the UBSAN issue still persists.

Do I need to do something else?
