[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1970453] Re: DMAR: ERROR: DMA PTE for vPFN 0x7bf32 already set

2022-07-06 Thread Michael
Thanks a lot for Comment 11.

I also think that the mentioned patch does not solve the data corruption issue.
From the comments I read here and in the mentioned links the patch can fix
issues like
DMAR: ERROR: DMA PTE for vPFN xx already set (to yy not yy)

But there seems to be another issue where the log message looks like
DMAR: ERROR: DMA PTE for vPFN xx already set (to yy not zz)

@jbastos5 - does this match your observations?

I am running a MicroServer Gen8 (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1220 V2 @ 3.10GHz),
having four WD RED drives attached to the built-in controller. They are forming
a md_raid5. Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04 I saw crashes of syncthing due to
a corrupt database. I have now also found files (e.g. Ubuntu ISO images) that
became corrupt. I see no hint for a hardware failure (of course I have to trust
smartctl here). The DMA error in my case always showed two different addresses
(to yy not zz). The stack trace next to the error messages indicated
iommu and raid (as far as I remember, unfortunately I haven't stored them). I
have disabled iommu in the grub configuration and the errors and syncthing
crashes are gone.

Since the issue causes data corruption, in my opinion it should be raised in
priority.

  * Several dumps were generated and shared with Canonical.

  [Fix]

  * ca05cbae2a0468e5d78e9b4605936a8bf5da328b ca05cbae2a04 "NFS: Fix up
  nfs_ctx_key_to_expire()"

  [Test Case]

  * There is unfortunately no reproducer or trigger available for this
  issue.

  * It just happens now and then under higher load.

  * Patched test kernels (focal 5.4 and bionic 5.4-hwe) were created and
ran for more than a week in a special staging environment (at IBM)
    without further crashes.

  * Hence the test and verification will be done by the IBM Z team.

  [Where problems could occur]

  * The inode handling can become broken, in case the changes
    on the pointers are erroneous.

  * Problems with the authentication and/or the credentials could occur
due to the modifications in put_rpccred, rpc_cred and rpc_auth.

  * The expiration of the cached credentials could be harmed as well,
due to the changes in nfs_ctx_key_to_expire.

  * The different pointer arithmetic may cause further issues - wrong
    or null pointer references.

  * Positive is that the original commit was brought upstream by nfs
  experts.

  * A patched test kernel sustained day long runs under load in a staging
    and test environment.

  * The author of the upstream commit/patch is well known in the NFS
  area.

  [Other]

  * The Salesforce Case Number 00334334 is associated with this bug.

  * Commit ca05cbae2a04 was upstream accepted with 5.16-rc1.

  * But commit ca05cbae2a04 was unfortunately not tagged as stable,
hence it was not picked automatically.

  * Since kinetic's (22.10) target kernel is 5.18,
it will have the patch included,
hence no dedicated PATCH request for kinetic.

State the component where the Bug is occurring:
    kernel

Indicate the nature of the problem by answering the below questions:

  - Is the system hung? No
  No, dumped and rebooted

  - Are there any custom patches installed? Yes
On base system level (CloudAppliance) we are still running with the zfpc_proc
module loaded. But no recent changes in the module and is running absolutely
stable in HA (same kernel and userspace, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS)

  - Is there any special hardware that may be relevant to this problem?
Yes
We are running with mlx (cloud network adapters) installed.

  - Is access information for the machine the problem was found on
  available? Yes

  - Is the bug occuring in a userspace application? No

  - Was a stack trace produced? Yes
This is what mention in first comment by @Boris Barth

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1965846] Re: Enable the mic-mute led on Dell XPS 9315

2022-07-06 Thread Chris Chiu
@koba said this issue should be taken care by https://github.com/alsa-
project/alsa-ucm-conf/issues/105#issuecomment-872047574 and
https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-ucm-
conf/commit/4c29de69359d7672bb8a255ffe10e21cdbaf1634.

I will verify if it works or not. We can drop the SAUCE patch depends on
the test result.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
On Dell's XPS 9315, the MIC-Mute function is working but the LED(on F4) state
is not changed accordingly.

  [Fix]
Dell's mic mute support in privacy mode has been upstream, but the the
mic-mute led support is still SAUCE patch which is maintained with DMI based
quirk. Add a new SKU for XPS 9315 until Dell's official fix for the mic-mute
led.

  [Test Case]
  1. press mic-mute hot-key and check if mic-mute is enabled or not by the OSD
icon.
  2. The mic-mute led should be ON when mic-mute enabled, OFF when disabled.

  [Where problems could occur]
It's only working on the particular SKU defined in DMI table. Will need to
drop it when Dell release the official solution.
