[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2003995] [NEW] Update the 525 UDA NVIDIA driver series in Bionic, Focal, Jammy, and Kinetic
Public bug reported: [Impact] These releases provide both bug fixes and new features, and we would like to make sure all of our users have access to these improvements. See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs. [Test Case] The following development and SRU process was followed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NVidiaUpdates Certification test suite must pass on a range of hardware: https://git.launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-sru/tree/units/sru.pxu The QA team that executed the tests will be in charge of attaching the artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. nVidia maintainers team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this has happened. [Regression Potential] In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug. [Discussion] [Changelog] 525.85.05 Improved the reliability of suspend and resume on UEFI systems when using certain display panels. Fixed a bug that prevented some controls in the nvidia-settings control panel from working when running an X server as an unprivileged user. Fixed a bug that could cause VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST when using VK_MEMORY_ALLOCATE_DEVICE_ADDRESS_CAPTURE_REPLAY_BIT to allocate memory. Disabled Fixed Rate Link (FRL) when using passive DisplayPort to HDMI dongles, which are incompatible with FRL. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone) Status: Triaged ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: High Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone) Status: Triaged ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: High Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone) Status: Triaged ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: High Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone) Status: Triaged ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Kinetic) Importance: High Assignee: Alberto Milone (albertomilone) Status: Triaged ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Kinetic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Alberto Milone (albertomilone) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Focal) Assignee: (unassigned) => Alberto Milone (albertomilone) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Jammy) Assignee: (unassigned) => Alberto Milone (albertomilone) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Kinetic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Alberto Milone (albertomilone) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Kinetic) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-525 (Ubuntu Kinetic) Importance: Undecided => High ** Description changed: [Impact] These releases provide both bug fixes and new features, and we would like to make sure all of our users have access to these improvements. One is packaged and maintained by archlinux/debian the other one was our self packaged one. We should merge the two. On the surface the source code is the same, there is slightly better dkms packaging on the broadcom-sta package. However it is missing modaliases stanzas. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2002385] Re: Memory error while booting
Just installed the latest kernel so far: 5.19.0-28. Immediately I tried installing nVidia 5.25. Although this reported an error and reported it could not be installed. Unfortunately I didn´t make a note so I cannot tell what error that was. When I wanted to try again later, it appeared to be installed anyway. This time I got no problems rebooting so the new kernel seems to have fixed this problem somehow: I now rebooted with no problem, having Kernel 5.19.0-28 and nVidia driver 525 installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2002385 Title: Memory error while booting Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I just installed ¨LinuxMint Vera Xfce" again after getting probably the same problem with an Ubuntu intstallation (ubuntu-22.04.1-desktop- amd64.iso) I tried out to get an external HDMI/VDI monitor working on my laptop. All worked fine with the default "Nouveau" video driver installed. I tried some xandr settings to check my external HDMI monitor, which basically worked. Then I noticed only the Nouveau driver was installed. I upgraded to the official (recommended by LinuxMint) NVidia-driver-525, did the compulsary reboot and got stuck with an "out of memory error" during that reboot (I don´t recall the literal message but something like that it was). The only option I had (because the install-USB oviously came with it) was choosing to boot with the previous 5.15.0-56 kernel which to my relief worked. After this boot I reverted to the Nouveau video driver and installed Kernel 5.15.0-57 again. So far this works, but I dare not install the official NVidia-driver-525 again. I don´t know if this is important, but so far I have no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in place. I'm still trying to find out what a working configuration for my laptop with a secondary external IIyama screen is. I have an Acer Nitro VN7 with 12GB of internal memory, new 240 GB SSD boot drive and 1TB extra SATA HDD. Booting is setup for EFI (which is also far from fully developed it seems) with secure boot disabled. b.t.w. It seems I cannot add more than one attachment to this report. Version log is: Ubuntu 5.15.0-57.63-generic 5.15.74 1) lsb_release -rd: Description: Linux Mint 21.1 Release:21.1 2) n.a. 3) I expected to happen: flawless reboot 4) What happened instead: boot got stuck on a out of memory error. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1834213] Re: After kernel upgrade, nf_conntrack_ipv4 module unloaded, no IP traffic to instances
Reviewed: https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/neutron/+/871659 Committed: https://opendev.org/openstack/neutron/commit/c609084b59c68f003153a58c2063f99b52f169e0 Submitter: "Zuul (22348)" Branch:master commit c609084b59c68f003153a58c2063f99b52f169e0 Author: Brian Haley Date: Tue Jan 24 15:16:47 2023 -0500 Add doc note on nf_conntrack module requirement The OVS firewall driver requires nf_conntrack module(s) to be loaded to function properly. While they are typically loaded automatically, add a note to the admin guide about the requirement to make it explicit. Closes-bug: #1834213 Change-Id: I55871eff1e37d4155b8d2b5ae8c182d160c4af9f ** Changed in: neutron Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1834213 Title: After kernel upgrade, nf_conntrack_ipv4 module unloaded, no IP traffic to instances Status in OpenStack Neutron Open vSwitch Charm: Fix Released Status in neutron: Fix Released Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: With an environment running Xenial-Queens, and having just upgraded the linux-image-generic kernel for MDS patching, a few of our hypervisor hosts that were rebooted (3 out of 100) ended up dropping IP (tcp/udp) ingress traffic. It turns out that nf_conntrack module was loaded, but nf_conntrack_ipv4 was not loading, and the traffic was being dropped by this rule: table=72, n_packets=214989, priority=50,ct_state=+inv+trk actions=resubmit(,93) The ct_state "inv" means invalid conntrack state, which the manpage describes as: The state is invalid, meaning that the connection tracker couldn’t identify the connection. This flag is a catch- all for problems in the connection or the connection tracker, such as: • L3/L4 protocol handler is not loaded/unavailable. With the Linux kernel datapath, this may mean that the nf_conntrack_ipv4 or nf_conntrack_ipv6 modules are not loaded. • L3/L4 protocol handler determines that the packet is malformed. • Packets are unexpected length for protocol. It appears that there may be an issue when patching the OS of a hypervisor not running instances may fail to update initrd to load nf_conntrack_ipv4 (and/or _ipv6). I couldn't find anywhere in the charm code that this would be loaded unless the charm's "harden" option is used on nova-compute charm (see charmhelpers contrib/host templates). It is unset in our environment, so we are not using any special module probing. Did nf_conntrack_ipv4 get split out from nf_conntrack in recent kernel upgrades or is it possible that the charm should define a modprobe file if we have the OVS firewall driver configured? If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification- failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999406 Title: Update firmware for hwe/oem kernel migrations Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux-firmware source package in Focal: Fix Committed Status in linux-firmware source package in Jammy: Fix Committed Status in linux-firmware source package in Lunar: Fix Released Bug description: [SRU Justification] [Impact] When migrating to a new hwe kernel or introduced a oem kernel of a newer version, the firmware blobs might not match the expectation of the new kernel. For example, a hwe-5.15 on Focal may include new drivers that relies on firmware blobs that are only available in Jammy. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1978416] Re: External USB webcam is not working
Update: It was the issue with the webcam firmware, I contacted Hikvision and they were not able to fix it. I returned it and bought different webcam from Logitech. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2003936] [NEW] curl peer disconnects inside lxd container
Public bug reported: Repro steos I have an (intermittent) issue when running curl/git inside an lxd container, the command always will interrupt with some kind of error due to peer disconnect e.g. "curl: (56) OpenSSL SSL_read: Connection reset by peer, errno 104". Outside the lxd container i.e. on ubuntu machine itself the same resource download without a problem. ``` # install and configure a virtual machine with ubuntu and configure it with bridged network, then install lxd on the vm with default configuration i.e. install network bridge lxdbr0 and run curl command. sudo snap install lxd sudo lxd init sudo lxc launch images:ubuntu/focal wired-bluejay sudo lxc exec wired-bluejay -- curl -o dart-sdk-linux-x64.zip https://storage.googleapis.com/flutter_infra_release/flutter/472e34cbbcd461c748973e7e735558ab200d4f5e/dart-sdk-linux-x64.zip ``` ``` % Total% Received % Xferd Average Speed TimeTime Time Current Dload Upload Total SpentLeft Speed 8 246M8 20.8M0 0 2780k 0 0:01:30 0:00:07 0:01:23 2951k curl: (56) OpenSSL SSL_read: Connection reset by peer, errno 104 ``` Additional information: I discovered the issue under an wsl installation of ubuntu. Initially I wasn't able reproduce with on an virtual machine (fresh ubuntu 22.10), but recently discovered I *can* reproduce the behavior when the network adapter on the vm (virtualbox) is switched to bridged. Identical behavior manifests. I stated above the issue is intermittent, with wsl I observed that only in two out of three networks the undesired behavior manifested. The networks are provided by the same internet service provider with same router models and assumed same network configuration. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1978416] Re: External USB webcam is not working
This happened to me on 18.04 and 20.04 both. I am seeing similar logs to the previous comments and one major problem is that the laptop would not even boot up if the webcam is plugged in. It gets stuck at boot time and until I remove the webcam, it keeps stuck in the same black screen. If I keep it plugged and it doesn't respond, the entire system gets stuck until I remove it.
