Bug description:
  [Impact]

Ethernet is unstable with Realtek RTL8168h/8111h NIC and kernel 6.2
resulting in frequent transmit queue timeouts. Related to ASPM. See
  'original description' below.

  [Test Case]

Just regular usage for an extended period of time. No transmit queue
  timeouts with RTL8168h/8111h NICs.

  [Where Problems Could Occur]

Modification are isolated to the r8169 driver so only machine where
that driver is loaded are affected. Issues could show up as kernel
crashes, stack traces, non-fnuctional wired network.

  [Original Description]

  hello,
it is my first time reporting a pug hope it is the last

  there is thread here
  https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2489146&p=14151513

  another user experienced similar issue

my network work fine at startup keep working for hours then disconnect and
cannot reconnect without a restart
I tested the cable using another pc and it was working repluged with no
difference

I thought it is caused by nvidia driver so changed it and the problem
  persist

  I use systemd-networkd

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2042075] Re: Black screen at login after updating to this kernel

Your "good" journal is with nomodeset. Can I see the log from a good
journal without adding a module parameter? Like an older kernel that
worked?

After updating the kernel I restarted the laptop. After entering my
password and logging in the screen goes black with occasional flashes
of, I guess i'd call it static.

The same thing happened with the previous kernel I installed, ending
.87, when I was running Zorin OS.

After un-installing the system returns to opening as usual.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

2023-11-05 Thread Henry Bigelow
I can confirm this bug is present for me too:

MSI GS 65 Stealth Thin
Ubuntu 23.04
SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad

Am happy to provide any detail. I've tried a bunch of things over the
years.

I have noticed that if, after opening the suspended laptop, I wait about
10-15 seconds before touching the touchpad, it is more likely to wake up.
Also, when I do touch it, I just barely touch it without moving my finger.
I find that if I can get the pointer to move just one pixel at first, then
touch it again, it is more likely to wake up.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2042706] Re: Kubuntu 23.10 freezes

2023-11-05 Thread Kyrylo Bohdanenko
So I found this mainstream bug where users reported very similar problem with
very similar (or even the same) hardware:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=217802

As the first workaround, I tried adding "nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0
pcie_aspm=off" to kernel boot parameters.
That did not work for me.

As the ticket claims that the problem was fixed in 6.6 (rc) and 6.5.6 kernels,
I tried installing the mainline kernels from
here: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/?C=N;O=D

I have tried the 6.5.7 and 6.6-rc kernels:
* 6.5.7-060507.202310102154
* 6.6.0-060600rc5.202310081731

Both worked fine (writing this comment using the 6.6 kernel). So this probably
means I have hit the same issue here.
Can the patch be backported into Ubuntu 6.5 kernel?

Title:
  Kubuntu 23.10 freezes

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have upgraded from Kubuntu 23.04 to Kubuntu 23.10.

After working for 2-7 minutes, everything becomes extremely
unresponsive and freezes afterwards. The screen goes black (as if
graphical shell has crashed and I am in the terminal). However, the
whole system remains unresponsive. I cannot switch between terminals
  too (Ctrl+Alt+F)

There was one symptom. When I was working in a Konsole window, and it
went unresponsive. Then I managed to launch another window, and every
single command returned "Input/output error" e.g.:

  $ ls
  bash: /usr/bin/ls: Input/output error

I noticed I can work around the issue by switching from the 6.5.0
kernel to the older 6.2.0 one which was left from Kubuntu 23.04.

The exact kernel package versions are:
  * linux-image-6.5.0-10-generic
  * linux-image-6.2.0-36-generic

How can I debug the issue?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

2023-11-05 Thread rustyx
Why is this closed? @kaihengfeng please re-open. The issue is still very
much present in 22.04 and 22.10 running on Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 5.

Title:
Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1
  Carbon 6th

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 18.04.1

Terminology in case we use different terms:
touchpad - just the rectangular touch-sensitive surface below the keyboard
(xinput lists it as Synaptics TM3288-011)
trackpoint - the red thingy built into the keyboard + 3 physical buttons
below the keyboard (trackpoint and buttons are integrated together; listed in
xinput as TPPS/2 Elan TrackPoint)

On September 7th, 2018, Lenovo has issued a BIOS update (v1.30), which
enables proper S3 deep sleep state - users no longer have to patch
DSDT tables to get it. It can be enabled in the BIOS settings. In X1
carbon 6th generation models that have NFC, when laptop wakes from
suspend by opening the lid, in most cases both touchpad and trackpoint
stop working completely. They are also no longer listed when running
xinput command. Sometimes just one of them stops working, usually the
trackpoint. In some rare cases it is possible to bring them back by
  using these commands:

  echo -n none > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  echo -n reconnect > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  rmmod psmouse
  modprobe psmouse

These worked properly when waking up from S2Idle sleep state (had
these in a script that runs after waking the machine from suspend),
but with S3 deep sleep these rarely work and the only way to bring
back touchpad and/or trackpoint is turning off the machine and turning
it on (restart does not help).

I could not find any pattern that would show when the input devices
stop working or start working again using the commands mentioned
above. It's completely random from my perspective.

This is happening on the standard issue 4.15.0-33-generic kernel that
shipped with my Ubuntu 18.04 (with updates), as well as with newer
mainline kernels, such as the newest point versions of 4.17, 4.18 and
  4.19 RC2.

This happens regardless of whether "blacklist i2c_i801" is commented
out in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf or not. It happens regardless of
whether "psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1" is passed as grub parameter.
Presence of TLP does not make it better, nor worse.

It appears that non-NFC models are not affected. I know at least one
Arch Linux user who has the exact same model, but without this issue.
I'm using synaptics driver (no libinput installed), he uses libinput
and doesn't have synaptics, if that information is of any use.
Libinput does not seem to help.

This forum thread also has more details from users who updated their
BIOS to get S3 suspend: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-
  Discussion/X1-Carbon-Gen-6-cannot-enter-deep-sleep-S3-state-aka-
  Suspend-to/td-p/3998182/page/27

The fixes are also available 6.5.10 and 6.5.10 is currently available in
Fedora updates-testing.

So you can install Fedora 38 with an USB keyboard + mouse attached to
the laptop and then do:

sudo dnf --enablerepo=updates-testing update 'kernel*'

Reboot into the new kernel and then the keyboard and touchpad should
work.

Note coming Tuesday Fedora 39 gets released, so you may want to wait
till Tuesday and then download and install F39 right away to avoid
having to upgrade later.

To download Fedora go to: https://fedoraproject.org/

  [Test case]

boot a fixed kernel and test that input and s2idle works.

  [Where problems could occur]

A buggy bios could maybe advertise a system being PCAT compatible when
it's not, though in such a case it might have been already caught
  before.

  Hello.

Ubuntu 22.04.3 with (later upgraded to kernel 6.2.0-32-generic) was
installed in rewly purchased LENOVO V15 GEN4 AMN (AMD Ryzen 5 7520u)
laptop and it was noticed that keyboard, touchpad and microphone are
not working. The keyboard and touchpad work fine in BIOS setup and
till GRUB (command line). It was found that when external devices such
as keyboard, mouse and microphone are connected through USB and 3.5
jack, respectively, these work just fine. To confirm these are not
hardware problems, Microsoft Windows 11 (Home) was installed in
another disk partition and observed all these working alright. Hence a
bug is being reported to draw attention of the concerned team and I
request them to refer this issue and do the needful at the earliest.

  Regards,
  Pradip Kumar Das

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Keyboard and touchpad doesn't work on some recent systems, and also
  s2idle is broken.

  [Fix]

  Two upstream commits.

128b0c9781c9f26 x86/i8259: Skip probing when ACPI/MADT advertises PCAT
compatibility
3bde7ec13c97144 platform/x86: Add s2idle quirk for more Lenovo laptops

  [Test case]

boot a fixed kernel and test that input and s2idle works.
