[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1385453] Re: Toshiba R700 backlight control not always working
As a workaround, creating an xorg.conf file and specifying intel_backlight seems to work, but I would love for this to work out of the box. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214148] Re: [Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03] Intel video: Display backlight cannot be changed
Symptom sometimes occurs on a R700 Toshiba when returning from sleep mode. Restarting the system restores this functionality. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. ~$ uname -psrv Linux 3.13.0-29-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 4 21:00:20 UTC 2014 x86_64 I could also adjust the brightness from the terminal: ~$ cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness 1030 ~$ grep . /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/* /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness:1030 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/bl_power:0 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness:1030 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness:4539 So, to temporarily increase the screen brightness: ~$ echo 3030 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness 3030 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1214148 Title: [Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03] Intel video: Display backlight cannot be changed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On my Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03 laptop, the display hotkeys and display brightness settings do not work at all. Symptoms: 1. When I use Fn F6 or Fn F7, I get a pop-up window that shows a light bulb and a slider, and the slider goes obediently up and down as I press F6/7. However, the brightness of the screen does not change as the slider indicator changes. 2. If I go into the Power Manager and set the display brightness to dim after a few seconds has passed, it doesn't dim. So it seems to me that the hotkeys are being recognized as a method to change the display brightness, but that the operating system is unable to change the hardware's actual screen brightness... I don't think it's a hotkey problem per se. I read through https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Debugging/Backlight and I think I have the problem defined as: Backlight control does not work, but there are entries in /sys/class/backlight. Although I do not seem to have the Brightness applet on my system (I am running XFCE, so maybe that is why), but the Power Manager's brightness control is definitely not working. This is a recent install of Ubuntu, on a newly purchased laptop, so I have no idea whether it was working in previous versions of Ubuntu, kernels, etc. Sorry. I used the ubuntu-bug utility to report this bug, so I am not sure what else you need... but I am starting by attaching the Xorg log, and will attach the lspci output and other information shortly. I am also going to follow the rest of the debugging steps on the Backlight debugging page and attach the output as separate comments on this report. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 13.04 Release: 13.04 $apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 Candidate: 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 Version table: *** 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-27.40-generic 3.8.13.4 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-27-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8.1 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Aug 19 14:01:34 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-06-17 (62 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail - Release amd64 (20130423.1) MarkForUpload: True ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1214148/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258686] Re: Faulty laptop battery or AC throws system cache for a loop
Yes it occurred in the previous version and yes, I have tried about a dozen other kernels. I would rather do some triage to actully identify the issue instead of getting in an endless loop of trying different kernels in the hope that some unrelated patch will have an affect. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258686 Title: Faulty laptop battery or AC throws system cache for a loop Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After a random period of time after a fresh boot, the system cache gets corrupted. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1258686] [NEW] Faulty laptop battery or AC throws system cache for a loop
Public bug reported: After a random period of time after a fresh boot, the system cache gets corrupted. This is shown by hdparm -T. Before system cache corruption: Timing cached reads: 1804 MB in 2.00 seconds = 902.88 MB/sec After system cache corruption: Timing cached reads: 258 MB in 2.00 seconds = 129.10 MB/sec Either the system battery or the AC adaptor is not functioning correctly, the Dell bios at times indicates that the AC adaptor is not a valid Dell product, though it is. In any case, the battery does not charge, but remains at 0%. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1246793] Re: Battery charging slows down laptop
Looks like you have run into the infamous CPU frequency issue. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_CPU_frequency_scaling Solution is to make sure you are running with high quality AC power. Workaround is to edit /etc/default/grub Find the following line and add processor.ignore_ppc=1 so it looks like this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash processor.ignore_ppc=1 then sudo update-grub sudo reboot. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1189645] Re: 13.04, lag under desktop environments
The latest updates seem to have triggered the issue, as well as displaying other artifacts. I now get some graphics corruption (attached) and, while watching a (html5) video on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wp2qhoop9U), the whole system froze and the video audio went into some sort of skip mode. I've been running in Pavlovian mode, without flash installed and somehow managing to avoid the conditions to trigger the issue, until today, when an update seems have found out how to trigger it all on it's own. ** Attachment added: Screenshot from 2013-08-29 17:31:36.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/linux/+bug/1189645/+attachment/3794457/+files/Screenshot%20from%202013-08-29%2017%3A31%3A36.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1189645 Title: 13.04, lag under desktop environments Status in X.org xf86-video-intel: New Status in “flashplugin-nonfree” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “flashplugin-nonfree” source package in Raring: New Status in “linux” source package in Raring: Confirmed Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” source package in Raring: New Status in “flashplugin-nonfree” source package in Saucy: New Status in “linux” source package in Saucy: Confirmed Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” source package in Saucy: Incomplete Bug description: A while after logging on, the system gets really slow. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1189645] Re: 13.04, lag under desktop environments
It seems the TLP was not the main cause after all. I've purged TLP from the system, rebooted multiple times, and the issue still appears, just not as quickly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1189645 Title: 13.04, lag under desktop environments Status in X.org xf86-video-intel: New Status in “flashplugin-nonfree” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “flashplugin-nonfree” source package in Raring: New Status in “linux” source package in Raring: Confirmed Status in “tlp” source package in Raring: New Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” source package in Raring: New Status in “flashplugin-nonfree” source package in Saucy: New Status in “linux” source package in Saucy: Confirmed Status in “tlp” source package in Saucy: New Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” source package in Saucy: Incomplete Bug description: A while after logging on, the system gets really slow.
