[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1882956] Re: Froze half-way through updating

2020-06-10 Thread Albert Cardona
I've now booted into linux 5.4.0-37-generic without incident.

** Description changed:

- In ubuntu 20.04 running linux kernel 5.4.0.31, running the updater
+ In ubuntu 20.04 running linux kernel 5.4.0.33, running the updater
resulted in a frozen, irresponsive mouse and keyboard, and the laptop
wouldn't suspend when closing the lid. Upon reboot, the laptop froze
  before reaching the login screen.

To workaround, I rebooted, held the shift key and entered the grub menu,
and booted using the prior kernel, linux 5.4.0.31. Then it worked. Grub
was listing both linux 5.4.0.31 and linux 5.4.0.33, with the latter
- being the default and the one that froze upon booting.
+ being the default and the one that froze upon booting after the botched
+ update.

Upon booting to linux 5.4.0.31, apt-get reported an unfinished package
installation. ```sudo dpkg --configure -a``` solved the issue without
incident, updating grub with a new entry for linux 5.4.0.37. Haven't yet
  tried to reboot into it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1882376] [NEW] Can't connect to external audio TaoTronics TT-BA07

2020-06-06 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

>From my iphone and chromebook I can see the external speakers plugged to
a TaoTronics TT-BA07 bluetooth device.

But from Ubuntu 20.04, the device doesn't appear listed in the settings.
There is listed a deviced named "1" that, when connecting to, appears to
be a sound device, but from the sound settings "test" buttons I can't
get any sound to play.

Any hints as to how I could triage this issue and collect more details?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1275227] Re: Computer froze completely upon ejecting firewire external hard drive

2014-02-04 Thread Albert Cardona
Joseph,

I am sorry to report that the error popped up again: this time, after
mounting the drive, then unmounting, then re-mounting, then unmounting--
froze. Had to hard reboot again.

Title:
Computer froze completely upon ejecting firewire external hard drive

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Firewire 800 hard drives have been plugged in and out of this macbook
pro 8,3 laptop running ubuntu 12.04 many times. Today, I plugged in
the drive, copied a number of files into it, and upon pushing the
eject button in nautilus (as usual), the computer froze: mouse didn't
move, couldn't switch to a tty to kill e.g. a rogue program, nothing.
After a few seconds, I heard the fan going full speed, indicating that
a program got stuck at 100% CPU usage. After a hard reboot, all is
back to normal. First time this happens in the 2 years I've been using
  this laptop with ubuntu 12.04.

  Thanks for looking into this.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1275227] Re: Computer froze completely upon ejecting firewire external hard drive

2014-02-03 Thread Albert Cardona
Joseph,
so far it's been an isolated, one time event.
I use the drive daily and it has worked fine so far after the incident.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1275227] [NEW] Computer froze completely upon ejecting firewire external hard drive

2014-02-01 Thread Albert Cardona
Public bug reported:

Firewire 800 hard drives have been plugged in and out of this macbook
pro 8,3 laptop running ubuntu 12.04 many times. Today, I plugged in the
drive, copied a number of files into it, and upon pushing the eject
button in nautilus (as usual), the computer froze: mouse didn't move,
couldn't switch to a tty to kill e.g. a rogue program, nothing. After a
few seconds, I heard the fan going full speed, indicating that a program
got stuck at 100% CPU usage. After a hard reboot, all is back to normal.
First time this happens in the 2 years I've been using this laptop with
ubuntu 12.04.

Thanks for looking into this.
